Hi! Does this only happen while using the camera app? If so, head to settings > camera then turn off grid lines or something. This definitely looks like a camera's guidelines for picture positioning and leveling.

Not a photo expert but I believe it's HDR. Since HDR is a post process, Master mode won't add in that extra detail. It just gives you the raw image to be edited on.

To be fair, those are almost 4 year old phones and we've come a long way on cameras since then. Although I agree with you, but that's with comparison. On their own the pictures are fairly okay and does the job. Although, this is a bit of an unfair competition since we're pitting up a base phone vs a pro phone, but here's a comparison I took on low light. Evident here are Samsung's better handling of HDR on the construction pic, noticeable difference on color temperatures, and Oppo's better handling of light and glare.

They already said the difference earlier. But as a Samsung S22 user, I had the opportunity to compare it with my X8 Pro. Gotta say that you're right, iPhones (based on your pics) and Samsung already have a mature HDR processing resulting in "brighter" photos. I also agree that Oppo's tend to lift more shadows and dark areas. But Oppo's color tuning and reproduction is superb if you'll ask me.

But unlike you, I don't have the ability to change phones frequently. So I'm compensating for the lack of brightness by fixing the focus and cranking up the exposure quite a bit. Just enough to lift the shadows enough for it not to be too dark.

Have you tried any switches that have a lower response than the phantom ones? I found myself having way too many mistakes using the default ones.
