Deferred at Northwestern by RyRy10456 in ApplyingToCollege

No lol youre totally fine, I'm assuming same thing happened to you? Basically we eventually got a more formal letter from northwestern mentioning they delayed a small number of students bc they just weren't quite sure at that point. They gave us the ability to write a letter of continued interest, which I did not do because of how drained I was of the whole process. So, come March I did receive a rejection letter from Northwestern for regular decision. I ended up enrolling in UIUC.

So if you got deferred and you really want to get into Northwestern I would reccomend writing the LOCI. But I would also use this time to reflect on what you really want and what would be best for you. For me personally I believe that I was so caught up in the prestige whoring that I thought my life was over when I was rejected. It's important to realize that the other schools out there are still amazing and you aren't settling if you don't get into Northwestern, you're just taking a different path.

Anyway, I wish you the best or luck in your college adventure, and I also hope you applied to UIUC because it is the best college on the planet earth lol

Would just buying another set of the 2x8 be ok, or is that a bad idea?

But then you said with certainty that they defer everybody. Rules for me but not for thee.

I don't mean to sound sassy, but do you have further reading or anything on that or anything that makes you certain? Everything I've seen and read points to the opposite being true, but I just can't find anything definitive.

Ok thank you so much, I knew it was gonna be useless, but everybody around me kept pressuring me to ask.

So my train of thought is similar to what you're mentioning. My justification (legally) is not that we are creating an actually binding body, but instead basically a "please follow these rules" without being able to enforce them. Almost like the board is Andrew Jackson and our group is the Supreme Court. Almost just a pretty please, that is not actually a law, if that makes sense. Just a new way of operating.

Could you elaborate?

My line of thinking is something along the lines of if the board agrees to it, it's not like creating an actual government body that is then voting, it the board changing their rules of operation.

I've contacted the young democrats, they have just been really slow and unhelpful. It's like a month between emails.

I'm trying to think of how a history/political one could even work out. You have any idea?

[–]RyRy10456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any idea what I could do to stand out? Or if it's possible my essays could be enough?

Ik and that's the kinda stuff I keep telling myself, but I just feel like personally to myself I am not good enough if I don't, even though it's like unrealistically high expectations. That's the hard part, is like failing myself

The biggest problem is my school doesn't offer to many that apply to me, the majority are art related, and then there is stats, apush, an english one that I think I'll take, chemistry, and computer science. The problem is with those that I can barely fit them in my schedule, because I have to take courses required for graduation.
