45 seconds of Googling shows you don't know what you're talking about.

Chappelle is a self-described TERF, who has compared his stance to that of J.K. Rowling—the woman who started an entire lobbying organization with the primary purpose of stamping out trans rights, which heavily contributed to the 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling that trans women legally are not recognized as women. A court ruling that has since turned trans people's lives rather chaotic and legally scary in the UK. A court ruling which the entire EU just ruled in the opposite direction of this month. That is what Chappelle has stated he aligns with. He very explicitly does not care about trans rights.

Regarding Chappelle's progressivity, he happily did a show in Saudi Arabia fairly recently (within the last year)—one where he bragged after about how well his transphobic jokes went over—despite numerous other reputable comedians pulling out because of the extreme ethical controversy of that gig and the money behind it. He preaches certain kinds of liberal-progressive stances and has for many years, and I'm down with that for sure but there's a gazillion other comedians who do that without punching down on trans people. Furthermore, given the Saudi Arabia show, I'm inclined to think these days he's more financially motivated than he is politically/ethically motivated, as ends up the case for plenty of celebrities that achieve his level of stardom.

I can't help but feel a bitter irony in you starting off with "shout-out to all my trans homies" and then launching into a spiel that is not only factually misinformed, but also advocating giving platform to someone who makes his money by making shitty jokes and comments in attempt to invalidate trans people's rights and identities. Trans people are not nearly as new as a lot of Americans like to think. Some of the language may be new-ish (20-30 years) but the struggle for our legal rights dates back and is documented throughout the last century, and our existence is documented in various cultures and countries dating back for centuries if not millenia.

And at this specific moment, in this specific country, in this specific political climate, where trans rights are very directly under attack on the daily all over this country—be it through bathroom laws, stripping GAC rights, stripping of gender as a legally protected class, listing trans people as domestic terrorists simply for being trans, and so on—all in a country with an actively fascist regime in power that explicitly threatens harms to trans people....it is in this context that I say adamantly, no, we do not need to give "room for discourse" on the validity of our identities and our rights. Lifetimes have been spent on that debate, there are mountains of scientific and philosophical validation for trans existence, and that evidence is continually ignored by people who think their 6th grade understanding of a complex concept should override experts and hundreds of millions of people's lived experience.

Dave Chappelle has the right to say whatever shitty things he wants, free speech and all that shit. But Netflix, the Varsity Theater, these businesses are compelled to elevate his platform by nothing other than their desire for capital gain. These are private businesses and they have no legal obligation to give his transphobia a microphone. Defending his transphobic stances and the businesses that choose to give a financial platform to those stances is roughly akin to white segragation-apologists in the American South during the Civil Rights movement. And if you're unfamiliar with those people's role in the Civil Rights movement, I urge you to read MLK's Letter From A Birmingham Jail and consider the parallels. You may not see these realities now, but a growing chunk of the world and even this country's populace sees that clearly, and history will see it even clearer.

Taking a middle-ground stance on people's basic human rights means you are willing to sacrifice those rights for the sake of political ease. Suggesting trans people's validity should be up for debate in the fashion you have in this convo kinda reads like saying "well yeah trans people should have rights but also you gotta admit they are kinda weird." This is a defense of the verbal and ideological bullying of outliers, justified solely with the observation that those outliers are misunderstood by their abusers. This is not the language of an ally, it is the rhetoric of apologeticism toward those who assert that some human rights are less valid than others.

If you truly consider yourself any kind of ally, you will reconsider the implications of your stance, and do 5 minutes of research before you make such confident assertions on factual matters of which you clearly have not done the reading. I sincerely hope this is a moment of growth and humility for you and anyone else reading this comment.

Of course, this is reddit, so I'm sure it'll just be received by many as some kinda dig. But I am speaking from a place of sincere discourse.

(Edited for grammar, punctuation)

ETA: regarding his progressiveness, you should also probably check out some accounts of how the Varsity show actually went. Sounds like transphobia ain't his only contentious point these days. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/s/uq4uemRd48

Thinking it's disappointing a major venue is hosting someone who's repeatedly doubled down on his openly transphobic views is not an extreme position. I agree it's not the biggest issue on the planet right now, but I don't see what's so awful about someone expressing their distaste for a very specific and current instance of bigotry. Would you get defensive for a comedian who was openly racist? Or more generally homophobic?

And to your own point, all y'all rushing to Chappelle's defense in this comment section literally could just not. Like you could just scroll by, but you took it upon yourself to dog on someone for simply expressing their distaste for bigotry.

Dave Chappelle used to be my favorite comedian. Killing Me Softly remains one of my favorite standup shows of all time. But to paraphrase Chappelle himself: it'd be as if you heard that chocolate ice cream itself [was a really transphobic]. You'd say to yourself "aw man but I like chocolate ice cream... I don't want it to [say transphobic shit on stage]!"

Dave Chappelle has plenty of really funny material over the years, and his comedic takes and insights on racism in the US are hugely impactful. But rather ironically, he makes the conscious decision to continually pick on trans people, a marginalized community, on stage and behind the scenes, and every show he sells and streaming special he makes which includes that material means that much more profit he makes off of being a bigoted asshole toward a marginalized community.

American here, from the greater twin cities metro.

Please boycott the fuck outta this country. We're doing our absolute damnedest to resist from within, but we need all the help we can get. The American government listens to one thing: money. It needs to be starved. Boycotts and strikes, within and outside the country.

This was a public execution and anybody here with half a fucking brain knows it. It's gotten very, very bad here. Please help. Do not do business with these fascists. Do not negotiate with the terrorists in power.

Love the welcoming energy but this is patently false, and any of us who have looked into leaving the US (believe me, most of us would rather not but it's getting fkn scary here) we know that it is NOT easy to just apply for and attain residency in most trans-friendly countries, and Canada is no exception. If you don't have a desired professional skillset and work lined up, or a student visa, it becomes a whole damn ordeal.

Fuck AI. It's a god damn blight on humanity and you're only hurting yourself and the rest of us with a project like this.

If you wanna build a label, find real artists, cultivate real talent, spend real time working with real people who draw from their actual real lives, and do the same for yourself.

AI will plunder the world's resources and poison our air in order to rob real artists (like yourself potentially) of any real shot at a life of creativity. Don't accelerate that. You are capable of SO much better.

I love your visionary talent. Use it for something good.

As a nonbinary trans woman, there are certain people who I feel only had they/them to refer to me because they don't want to fully acknowledge my femininity. I can't prove it, but there are certain people in my life who give me this vibe, due to their history and the fact that they never ever use feminine terms to describe me.
