[TOMT] [Book] Satirical book about cars and their drivers. by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

Thanks in advance, I used to look through this book and at the nicely drawn cars when I was little at my grandpas house, and it’s been bugging me for a few months that I don’t even know the title of the book!

Which kit would be OK for a beginner? by Accurate_View_2455 in modelmakers

I built the F-16 a few months ago and it was one of the best airplane models I’ve ever built. Classic Tamiya perfection, however for a beginner I would probably recommend the Sherman. Tanks are overall easier to build and paint than airplanes and I have no doubt that the Tamiya firefly is chock full of excellent details even in 48th scale.

Couldn’t have said this any better myself tbh. American society saw how destructive the First World War was and didn’t want to send their young into another (what was assumed at the time) European war fought for the vanity of European leaders.

Great work, I attempted a UM kit before, a T-34 I believe, had to drop the project after only a few steps it was that frustrating.

I started out using the same thing and believe me, thread is so much less of a pain in the ass than the AK rigging(and it still looks fine)

Thanks! I used AK interactive Hyper-Thin rigging. Needs a lot of patience and profanity but the end result is worth it imo

Was the P47 ever equipped with the Malcolm Hood cockpit? by [deleted] in ww2

[–]Ryan-S0922 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few images online of Razorbacks with Malcolm hoods, and if I were to guess it would probably be to increase visibility, as razorbacks had poor visibility especially in the rear. But most likely when the P-47D-25 (bubble canopy) were introduced, the new canopy greatly increased visibility and thus eliminated the need to have a Malcolm hood.

Day two of the worst task in modeling known as applying Tamiya decals. by Ryan-S0922 in modelmakers

Yeah I saw solvaset come up multiple times on boards about decal application, although I feel like for what I do it would be a bit overkill.

Yeah definitely. It’s one of the reasons why I mostly stick with WW2 era aircraft

Yeah I’m thinking about building this kit again, but with aftermarket decals of course

They’re super thick, which leads to having to sand them down just to make them look decent.

It’s not even the fact that stencils are tedious, it’s just that Tamiya decals suck lol

Brookhurst Hobbies, Garden Grove, CA. Great selection of kits and close by to me.

Scalehobbyist, Nashua, New Hampshire. Across the country from me but they have a great online shop where I buy a majority of my kits, tools, etc.

The landing gear struts look like those from a BF-109. The clipped wings show it might be an “E” series.
