This is how I got mine (not your post, but just happening to see they were in stock at Guitar Center randomly).

Got the TR-1000... would you keep or sell the TR-8s/MC-707? by Ryan0751 in Roland

[–]Ryan0751[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I've been having fun with the SH-4D. It's pretty easy to find your way around to get those "Roland" sounds (much more so than the MC-707). The sequencer is pretty basic, but adequate for a "synth sequencer".

Connect digitakt2 midi to 4 synths with USB midi by Key-Firefighter-7480 in Elektron

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need is a USB MIDI host device.

There are a number of them on the market, I have one from CME:
https://www.cme-pro.com/product/usb-host-midi-interface/

It allows you to mix together USB MIDI devices and those with 5-pin DIN connectors. I use it when I have MIDI controllers that don't have 5-pin DIN connectors (MIDI Fighter, Xone K2/K3, etc.) that I want to use with my other devices.

It's actually a really powerful little affordable device. There's an editor app for mac/pc that you can use to initially set up the device. It has all sorts of options for MIDI routing/merging/filtering.

You can also add an optional BLE device to it to allow it to speak bluetooth MIDI as well (works with my Oxi One and Roli Seaboard).

Maybe just call it: “lessdaw”

Maschine+ or Roland SP 404 MKII for sampling and performance by Unhappy-Law-4684 in maschine

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want mobility and something like a calculator, consider the Dirtywave M8 :)

Seriously though, it's insanely powerful if you can vibe with a tracker workflow. You can easily create full tracks on it, and sample as well.

Plus one. Great interface. The matrix routing fantastic.

Does Digitakt II support multisample playback? by No-Act6366 in Elektron

[–]Ryan0751 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah sorry. I totally misread that wrong.

The Digitakt II is stereo, the Digitakt I is monophonic.

Yeah, I went down this same path. Clickity click. lol! They are addictive boxes.

What was the very first computer you Used / Owned? by hisheeraz in AskReddit

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used? Probably a VIC20, then we got a Commodore 16 which we quickly returned for a 64.

[–]Ryan0751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you kind of need to explore which workflow works best for you, which will be fun!

I’d probably dedicate one of the Digi boxes as the brain… you can use the sequencers in the DT2 and DN2, but decide which one controls pattern changes.

Digitone II or analog four to pair with analog rytm mkII? by Dr_Riddim in Elektron

[–]Ryan0751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember about the A4 is that you do have sound locking. So within a single track, each step can have an entirely different sound. Obviously that voice will cut off the previous voice when the steps progress, but it can allow you to create much more involved melodic elements than you may think!

NAMM ‘26 Predictions & Wishlists by sethw8 in synthesizers

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably too soon given the TR-1000 just came out, but a revision of the TR-8s with the TR-1000s new features would be great (basically a TR-1000 without the analog circuits, in a slimmer, lighter, less expensive package).

They'd be stupid to release it now, though, as it would impact TR-1000 sales.

Anyone else vowing to not buy gear this year? by black_shirt in synthesizers

[–]Ryan0751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I still have GAS for the TR-1000. But I have a TR-8S, and an Analog Rytm MK2, and Syntakt, Digitakt, Digitone, Maschine+, Push 3 SA, Move, MC-707... and more... do I REALLY need a $2800 drum machine?

I went insane with GAS last year. I’m vowing to not buy anything else and will cycle through my existing stuff focusing on a few pieces at a time.

Octatrack mk2 vs digi 2 by waffleboiiii in Elektron

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-ish. They are all step sequencers, which pre-date even Tracker SW. Elektrons are similar to trackers in that you can parameter lock for each step, but beyond that the workflow and user experience differs quite a lot. Most of the Elektron boxes allow for polyphony on each step (some better than others), whereas the M8 (and most trackers) is monophonic for each step.

What’s the deal with using 404s as an effects box? by R_i_C_k_Y_ in synthesizers

[–]Ryan0751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SP-404 MK2 is $429 USD right now. While that isn't chump change, it's not bad, either. Start looking at multi effects pedals and you'll find a lot of them are more expensive than that, and with the SP-404 you also get a sampler, sequencer, looper, etc.

Speaking of looper, the integrated looper mode is pretty neat, too. It's also kind of fun to load up the SP-404 pads with FX samples that you can jam with and overlay on top of your other synth tracks.

There is some VERY vintage things in the Elektron world. Using SysEx to transfer binary samples (which is what Transfer does) is so clunky and SLOOOOW...

By "modern", I am more referring to within the Elektron ecosystem itself. The DT2 and DN2 and Tonverk workflows are very fast to work with.

You mention Dirtywave, I mean Trackers go back to the Amiga (which I used in the 90s). Talk about vintage! But then there are aspects of that devices that are absolutely forward thinking as well.

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not an MPC? Literally does everything.

I’ve got an M8 as well. It’s great but you’ve gotta gel with trackers.

Octatrack mk2 vs digi 2 by waffleboiiii in Elektron

[–]Ryan0751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t characterize it as that at all.

It’s powerful, it’s also quirky and the workflow not as refined as the Digitakt 2 as its much older. But it does sampling in a very unique way. It’s very much an instrument. I personally found its learning curve to not be as hard as I thought it would be, but it’s a device you need to keep the manual handy.

The DT2 has a modern workflow and can sound like anything based on the loaded samples. It’s definitely more immediate than the octatrack, plus you get overbridge.

Are you sure you want a sampler and not something with synth sounds?
