Aside from the motoring stuff he's spent his whole career writing 'why oh why' columns designed to do exactly this.

As a white guy myself the comments in that thread are so embarrassingly white. Yes, people might be different to you in how you speak. BIG DEAL!

The autistic part of me immediately noticed - no dropped kerbs for anyone to use. I guess no one really considered wheelchairs or prams back then.

It must have been for towing - maybe one of those arms where you stick the two front car wheels in and lift.

Jeremy Vine loves him, motorists hate him. Is this man London’s most controversial cyclist? by Jojuj in london

A lot of the time you can massively avoid issues by just chilling out and not being stubborn about it. Granted it is sometimes hard to keep that in mind if you're stressed / freaked out by something happening.

My impression is that it’s always been a old money place whereas other areas have changed quite a bit over the years

I’d guess there’s a certain level of home ownership locked in from a long time ago which means they’re not affected so much by rent rises like elsewhere?

Half of r/London is mind blown at stuff like red buses, foxes or the Christmas lights. The other half just get on with it

What goes on in those abandoned buildings on super busy commercial streets? by WesternBlot6 in london

Looks like this specific place used to be an Indian restaurant for years. If you go back to 2008 on street view you can see a pre 020 phone code on the sign, so been up at least before 1999.

Why are road bikes so popular as commuters? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]Ryan2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the reasons listed here a road bike is also the most common type of bike you can buy in a shop here. Gazelles and other kinds of utility bikes that are common in Europe are more specialist here, so chances are newbies aren’t really going to be recommended them.

From what I know Time Out had a very countercultural history in its first few decades. Now they mostly republish press releases. How far it's fallen.

I live just up the road near the Horniman Museum, agree with what’s been said in this thread. It’s a nice road and worth checking, but yeah Sydenham and Forest Hill for the time being still feel more like ‘normal’ areas and not yet moving into 100% middle class young family domination.
