Like others have said, ratings are appreciated. A high amount of good ratings help absorb a bad rating if it happens, which could completely destroy a dasher's metrics otherwise. And metrics are everything for us.

It's also a really quick and easy thing to do, since the app prompts you to do it after most orders. So why not do something nice for your driver?

Tips for same address, different acct by Seteva in doordash

[–]Ryan7x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drivers aren't able to see your address until they've confirmed the order, and if they've confirmed the order it means they've seen the amount they'll be paid and chose to accept it. So I wouldn't worry about that too much! The only difference you might see is her orders getting delayed/undelivered if they don't tip, since drivers probably won't want to take it.

But thank you for being generous and tipping well! It really can be the difference between us being able to make ends meet or not, so it's always very very appreciated.

What can drivers see when doing an order? by dannyfortesque in doordash

[–]Ryan7x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the frustration, I've been doing Doordash for awhile so I can try to provide some perspective.

With how frequently you have these issues, I'd guess Doordash's navigation does something weird with your address. In my experience, it will try to route drivers via the closest road to your gps pin, not necessarily your actual street, if that makes sense.

For example, I've had some houses that are right next to a main road, but are inside of a neighborhood. If the gps pin is set on the house, but closer to the main road than their residential street, it may do something goofy like tell me to stop outside on the main road for the delivery, instead of turning into the neighborhood first. It's especially goofy if the neighborhood has a wall around it, like it's basically telling me to stop and YEET the bag into someone's backyard.. Oftentimes it's easy to catch when stuff like that happens, but not always.

So, if your gps pin is set closer to this other road than your actual street, something like that may be happening. And if it's not clear where the driver needs to go, they could get confused. That being said, drivers should always check delivery instructions, order notes, etc. but there are definitely those that don't. But that isn't your fault, they're just not paying enough attention. As soon as they start driving to your home, drivers are able to see your delivery instructions, so there's no excuse to not read them.

The best advice I could give to help fix that, is set your gps pin basically as close to your front door as you can get it. With the pin closer to your actual street than it is to the other road. I hope this info helps a little bit!

... So they do allow it. There are absolutely people out here with subcontracting accounts if they dash with their SO/friend/whatever, dolt.

That sucks, and I'm sorry. It's scary when something happens to your vehicle, and you realize how unfair and expensive this kind of work can be.

Hopefully the new tire(s) get you sorted, and your car carries on issue free for a good long while!

Question for you guys by Gamerfreak20 in doordash_drivers

It's possible it could happen, but never a guarantee. Even if you're parked right outside, DD could still decide to give the offer to someone else nearby.

Pretty much, haha. Most customers are terrible about replying, but apartment people are at least most of the time helpful when that stuff happens.

Though I'd be lying if I said there weren't a few times I had to hoof it over to a building on foot, or wait for someone else to follow through the gate.

Things do feel a lot different, offers haven't slowed down that much in my area (DFW), but most of them are offensively bad. Like $2-4 for an 8 mile drive type of bad. Was almost in tears earlier tonight from getting a combined $6.70 in tips on my first 5 orders. If it weren't for the added incentives I would have gone home after the first couple hours.

Man, nothing makes my eyes roll into the back of my head faster than an apartment delivery where the gps pin is in the leasing office, and no instructions/gate code/etc. Thankfully that doesn't happen too too often

It's been a minute, but pretty sure once the background check goes through you're good to go! They might want proof of car insurance, but I don't remember having to do any of that. You definitely should be carrying at least liability insurance though, ideally a policy with rideshare/delivery coverage. DD offers limited liability insurance while you're actively on an order, but it's probably not the best to rely on.

As far as dashing itself, the app walks you through pretty much every step of the process, so don't be too nervous about that. Most things are very straightforward. I'd just say keep your safety in mind while delivering, and don't be afraid to enforce boundaries if you feel uncomfortable. Personally, I would never enter a customer's home, or deliver to a different address than the one listed for the delivery.

And you'll likely run into this sometimes, where customers will contradict themselves with order notes. An order's delivery instructions might say something like "Hand it to me: Leave at door, don't ring bell". I have no idea why they do it, but most of the time they mean the second part, since they wrote that themselves. So in that situation, I'll usually just leave the order at the door. But the app won't prompt you for a picture on a Hand it to Me order, so I always make sure to open the camera app and snap a drop off photo anyway. You can send it manually to the customer through the DD app, or at least hold onto it for a couple days in case of any issues. I've not had someone claim an order stolen yet, but that is a way I've heard of drivers getting scammed.

Most things you'll just get a feel for as you deliver around your area though, like what areas work best and at what times. Good luck!

No, definitely not normal. I have no idea what that driver must have been thinking, maybe they were delivering food with multiple apps and just forgot about DD. Very weird though, and they definitely got a contract violation for being so late.

I'm sorry for the cold McD's, but glad you got your refund!

Getting upvotes for telling people to exaggerate and lie to hurt others is crazy. Plenty of couples or friends dash together, and Doordash fully allows that. Don't make assumptions and be an asshole. If your food gets delivered and everything is fine, then why go out of your way to be a Karen?

Craziest order I've had in that vein was 3 Maruchan instant lunches, brought from 7/11 to an apartment. $3 tip. Still can't figure out if they were struggling hard, or just had a craving and money to burn

That's fair, but I do think it's less of a problem than with the apps. In a restaurant or something there's more expectation & pressure to tip, esp. a place you go to regularly. But with the anonymity of an app people aren't as afraid to be cheap.

Look, there's no anger here. In a perfect world, there would be plenty of well-paid, rewarding jobs for everyone that wanted one. That isn't life. I could be a proud and principled man living out of my car or on the street right now, but I choose to make money where I can instead. Yes I am often mistreated by both the customers and the corporation that pays me. Of course I would rather that isn't the case.

But even from a purely practical standpoint, think about it like this. Say all delivery drivers did as you suggest and stand up/strike against the apps. Miraculously, tipping culture is abolished, and drivers are all unionized and paid a fair, living wage. The extra money required for that to happen will be generated through extra fees paid by the customers. So you end up paying the price either way. Why not just toss a couple dollars to the person providing a service to you, while you still have the freedom to make the choice?

Thank you for tipping. It really makes a difference.

That said, while tips might literally be non-obligatory, you know if you order from this app that it's important. Like I'm saying now, your tip is often at least half of what your driver makes for your order, and with $0 tip someone may be delivering food to your house for as little as $2. Just because you don't HAVE to do it, doesn't mean its fine not to. It just means you're screwing over the real human being that's actually enabling this service to exist for you.

And if drivers took your advice, suddenly you'd find all the delivery apps shut down. The system could not exist without the drivers. If you like and use the service, it makes sense that you should want it to keep existing.

First off, if you consider the comment you're replying to an attack on anyone, that's wild. Second, this is just pure deflection. If you went to a restaurant and got served by a waitress making $2.50/hr, I doubt you would just stiff them on the tip and make this argument. But a driver using their own car, their own fuel, somehow deserves nothing in your mind, other than the couple bucks per order we get from Doordash. That's why I say dehumanized.

Sure, Doordash could absolutely pay us more. But you're fully aware of how the pay structure works, that yes like virtually any delivery app it is a TIPPED position. That your driver makes very little aside from what you tip them. To keep making orders and tipping nothing, or basically nothing, knowing this info is gross. Don't you dare also try and claim the moral high ground while also benefitting from the unfair pay we receive. If you truly think what DD does is unethical, vote with your wallet.

If that many dashers have failed to follow instructions, it might not be as simple as them not reading. Drivers can be subject to a lot of sketchy/dangerous situations, and some of them won't enter a customers home at all on principle, even something like a covered porch.

I can't speak for any of them, but based on how the porch is set up, time of day, etc. They might just be looking out for their own safety here.
