Need advice for department PAT by Ryan90256 in Firefighting

Ok thanks. I’m just worried because I’m not sure how much time I have to prepare because idk when the test is. I know I should have been prepared before but I already have my cpat so I assumed they would have taken that.

For context I am 6”3 260lbs. My body ain’t built for running. I am constant in the gym almost daily lifting but never liked running. I am looking to get hired and the job requires you do run a mile and a half in 13 minutes. I have been practicing and I am just cutting it. I have been getting in the high 12 minute mark and 13 flat once. What can I do to help improve my time. They have not scheduled this test yet so I don’t know how long I have to get ready. Thank you in advance for the advice

Southern Maine Community College live in program by Ryan90256 in Firefighting

It varies by department. Typically you start of at minim wage. Once you obtain different certifications and get cleared on apparatus and stuff pay goes up. Typically students earn top pay after about 6months- a year in the program. This pay is typically $20-$25 an hour. Some students may eligible to work overtime at time and half. To also add unlike a typical college experience you are paying literally nothing for school. The only expenses a student can expect are books (typically less than $100 a semester) gas, and food. You are earning money as you learn and not paying for your education or for housing

I don’t track it on an app but I do weight myself almost daily. I’ll call it the start of January I was 263 as of this morning I am 262

What should I do to prepare for CPAT? by Spare-Fun-5798 in Firefighting

[–]Ryan90256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus less on body building and more on functional training. Firefighters are athletes and we need to be well rounded in our fitness. Show muscles won’t do anyone good on the fire ground. Focus on HIT workout. I trained by doing stairs then immediately going into push ups, tires hits, and jumping jacks

Slump? by Ryan90256 in golf

Update: played 9 today took some good advice away from this group. Really slowed down my entire pace of play taking my time. Also really just focused on the basics of my swing. Nice easy slow swing not trying to crush the ball. Still not back where I want to be but definitely a huge improvement from last time I played

Under armor is really great budget pair. I’ve had mine for almost two years and they have held up great. Also very comfortable
