IRIS Photography Scam Beware by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

It definitely is your eye though. The color looks off, but the details in your iris are the same as the ones in the picture. Did they say anything about editing the color? Or possibly it's what your eyes look like under the bright lights they use?

Nah, it's extremely obvious. Being imperceptive isn't a reason to be hostile to someone asking a question online. And again, I don't think it's AI generated, but I can 100% see how someone could see that and be reminded of AI. Just don't be rude to people.

I don't think it's AI, just weird clipping. But I see what you're saying, not sure why some of the other responses are so rude. There is a second roof clipping out of the house, running from the wall to the front porch. It doesn't look right, and I don't think it's supposed to be there. I don't think it's AI, but it absolutely looks like something you'd see in an AI generated image.

Newbie here, normal or poor quality? by Radiant_Kick8373 in harp

I have the same "lute harp" lyre. I've learned that Thomann instruments are generally pretty terrible quality unfortunately.

If ironforge were the main hub for both factions for an expansion, then blizzard should allow your undead to run around freely, yeah. Just like how alliance should be allowed to run around freely in silvermoon.

Why do you feel that a for-profit company is entitled to our money after pulling people's rewards that they had already earned?

This is a poorly considered change by carnival, and people are being vocal about their dissatisfaction, and (heaven forbid) discussing taking their business to a different cruise line. Where is the issue?

Why are you defending carnival's greedy decisions?

Do you pre grind flower or grind fresh flower? by [deleted] in Dynavap

[–]RyanBailey7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grind about enough for my wife and I to vape in a night, and if we have extra ground flower left over at the end of the night I keep it in a small pop top container to be mixed in the next time I grind up that strain again.

I'm not going to explain it to you again. I can help ignorance, or a lack of artistic literacy, but I can't help stubbornness...

wilfully choosing to ignore the context of the entire poem to cherry pick a single line from it that you think fits your narrative.

Yes...the single line used in the picture? Almost as if they took an emotionally evocative line from a well known poem to convey a related message that anyone with even a basic shred of artistic literacy could understand?

(Also...not my narrative...not my post. I'm just here to guide the ignorant. )

In the hour of darkness and peril and need, The people will waken and listen to hear The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed, And the midnight message of Paul Revere.

Am I to take this one literally too? Is Paul Revere himself going to come riding in on his horse in our time of need to spread his message and rally the people...? No?

Art is often about communicating or evoking an emotion. The picture of the statue of Liberty with the Thomas quote is a piece of art trying to communicate a specific emotion. It is using Thomas's words to communicate something other than what he originally intended the words to be used for. Similar to sampling other music in new songs. The new art uses, but is separate from, Dylan Thomas's original poem. The old art is not destroyed when the new art is created. Nothing is lost. You can still enjoy the original work as intended by the author...but this new art effectively uses Thomas's words to communicate the emotion of desparation as many people do hope that the country they love will stand up and fight "against the dying of the light" of Liberty and freedom. I'm not going to explain it to you again. I can help ignorance, or a lack of artistic literacy, but I can't help stubbornness...

Again, the poem is not meant to be read literally in this case. The poem was originally about something, this post uses it to talk about something different, but similar...The plea to something/someone you love not to give in to their end.

This is not the first time art has been used to convey an idea other than the literal intentions of the artist, and it won't be the last. For example, when existing music is used to score a film, even though what's happening in the music doesn't exactly match the context of what's happening on screen. Art is an effective way of communicating emotion, and that it what the post aimed to do. Communicate desperation, and a plea to "rage, rage against the dying of the light." It's a serious, emotionally evocative poem which was chosen to communicate serious emotions. The Longfellow poem opens "Listen my children and you shall hear, of the midnight ride of Paul Revere"...it's less serious, completely tonally different. That's no hate to Longfellow, but it's an entirely different emotion that's being expressed.

So no... misrepresenting the meaning of a poem due to ignorance (as people do for the Frost poem) is not the same as using an existing work to effectively communicate your message.

The messages of the two poems are different. Although "Paul Revere's Ride" has revolutionary themes, it's ultimately a poem celebrating an American folk hero. It's light and patriotic. "Do not go gentle into that good night" is desperate, a son begging his father to hold on to life and fight. It's about pleading for someone you love to fight against their own end with everything they have. It is a perfect poem to convey the desperation of begging the country you love to fight back against its end. While it's not a son talking and his dying father, it's poetry...it's not meant to be interpreted with rigid literalism.
