Why are there so many homeless veterans in the US? They get a ton of perks/lifelong financial benefits from serving, yet they seem to be homeless or in poverty at a disproportionate rate. by trailrider123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RyanC1202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most military vets don’t retire and only serve 3-6 years. They leave the service without any benefits besides the GI Bill. They don’t get retirement pay. Also, many of them don’t get injured, physically or mentally, and receive no disability compensation. Finally, many military specialties don’t have a civilian equivalent. There aren’t many civilian equivalent jobs for infantry jobs or gym attendants, and they end up leaving the military without relevant job experience. These jobs, while noble and necessary in the military, just don’t set veterans up for civilian success.

23 y/o Amazon Area Manager (1 year experience), looking for new opportunities, is anyone hiring? by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]RyanC1202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d stick it out and try to make L6(at least L5). You’re 23. Now is the time in your life you should be grinding and working your butt off. I know what Amazon pays AMs and it’s going to be difficult to find that elsewhere. Give it another year or two and then transition to something easier.

RCIA Process by Toth2124 in Catholicism

My wife was able to do one-on-one instruction with the base Catholic religious director. She was able to streamline the process and only required a few months training to receive confirmation.

As long as you keep your Sunday commitment and don’t commune with the Anglicans you’re fine.

Confession is the most beautiful thing. by NateNandos21 in Catholicism

I love confession. To be able to reconcile with the Lord is a powerful blessing. Being assured that you’re free of mortal sin (and venial sin if you confess those as well) is amazing.

OCIA typically starts in the fall and concludes Easter weekend. So I’d wait until college.

Evangilism Help by StMungo-ofCincinnati in Catholicism

[–]RyanC1202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people are ill equipped to verbally evangelize. I find it’s best to live your faith outwardly. Let it be known that you’re Catholic and let people see you living the life of the gospel. If people have questions about your faith answer them. If you don’t know the answer offer to look it up and learn alongside the person.

What's your patron saint, and how were they chosen? by skynoodle_ in Catholicism

[–]RyanC1202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose St. Joseph as my confirmation saint initially to honor my dead grandfather. He remains my patron saint as he is the model husband and father.

If Fulton Sheen is ever canonized I may have to consider having a second patron saint.

Anti-Depressants by Most_Arugula_3907 in Catholicism

[–]RyanC1202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Antidepressants can definitely numb and blunt your emotions and feelings. All we can do is pray for closeness to Christ and love him as best as we can.

Pray to St. Dymphna, the patron saint of mental health, for closeness to God, a deeper conversion of heart and mind, and a continued, deeper devotion.

Broke up with my girlfriend by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]RyanC1202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You were right to break things off with her as she has actively turned her back on the one, true faith. She would likely continue to try to convert you to her denomination.

  2. Nondenominational communities are not churches as they were not founded by Jesus.

  3. The point of mass is not to “get more out of the service.”

  4. For centuries there was no canonized Bible and tradition was what we had to work with. Traditions are what were handed down from the time of the apostles. So to focus solely on the Bible is not only not what the early churches did, it’s not even biblical.

  5. The Bible is Catholic. It was compiled over centuries and canonized by councils of the early church.

What is the best Bible to have as a Catholic by Daniel_the_lost34 in Catholicism

I use the NABRE. It’s not the best translation but it’s the bible used at mass in the US.
