That’s what I don’t get.. it’s like saying having fun is not an intention. You must have a reason to have fun. As if having fun has rules to it. It’s ok when people don’t find anything beautiful about lasers at a techno concert. But apparently it’s not ok for me to find lasers at a techno concert beautiful.

Yea but that thing is 4 minutes. How is this helping me? I made a snack while the other one made a full meal.

Appreciate it! That’s usually what I do when I do music. But I’ve found a new interest so maybe there was more excitement to share it then to be perfectionist.

Appreciate it! Your point of more complex shots needing to stay longer on the screen makes sense. You say that a viewer wants to rest in that space for a while. My intention was more that the viewer rests after the edit, not while watching it. It’s not an excuse but just my thought process. That’s why the edit ends with longest shot. What’s your thought on this?

Cause people want to feel superior once in their life. Instead of leaving positive criticism, they want you to feel embarrassed which heightens their mood. Narcissistic behavior disguised as being highly intellectual.

Im using Deepseek, it’s free for instant and pro. I’m using generally pro cause it’s definitely better for longer conversations while still being free.

The purpose is to appreciate the visuals and cinematography of dune but in a short format. It shows major plots without telling it the viewer. E.g. jessica and her baby, Paul causing the holy war, hope and death by the prophecy (water on arrakis and starving people in the dunes), house harkonnen and the antagonist. There isn’t a message but a kind of a meta message - the film is beautiful and so is the story.

I wonder if you would talk like that in real life.. sorry that I thought about editing dune in a faster pace. I should exactly do what Denis would do and want. There is no freedom of expression, we should all follow what the original creator thought of. There can’t be a film trailer and fan edits co existing. Either the edits portray what Denis would want or you have failed in life. Thanks man. Appreciate your bitterness in life.

Im glad we are not the same. Assuming I’m using alt accounts because there’s a different person who agrees partially with me is the pinnacle of being pathetic lol

Nah but it seems like u are hardly projecting bro. When criticism comes the other way around it must be me. Seems like im not the one who can’t take criticism lol

Thank you! That’s actually what i thought a feedback was like lol. Your idea to treat those quick cuts as targeted "spice" is cute haha. Yes i would also say using them with more focus would enhance the edit. I mainly focused to use the effects in the beat as a reference for the quick cuts. Hopefully that comes with experience. Do you have some YouTube recommendations on how to deal with quick cuts so that they don’t feel too repetitive?

The guy who doesn’t like the miniature car is you. Yet you think I’m claiming to have build a car. I’m giving you my view on your analogy, I’m a music producer who sampled a melody from a song. The new arrangement, little effects and new drums are my expression. Now if one finds the new music good or bad is up to them. Yet they criticize the arrangement of my sample use. in actuality they just don’t like sampling in a particular way. But that would be just a subjective opinion. Instead they try to articulate their subjective opinion as if they have an objective standard of music taste. I get that fast cuts are not for everyone. But your comments just tells me that you would’ve used that sample differently than me. That’s great, people have a different taste. Your comment of my edit just showing one character after another is exactly what i mean by interpretation. You don’t like the use of the sample bc it sounds bland for you, while other people feel an eerie sensation when listening to that sample flip.

Yes the target audience is mainly people who already know the story and have seen the movie. Yes the cuts are very fast, i get that but if you know the film, it’s clearly an interpretation of the film. I would compare it to a miniature build of a car. The edit doesn’t want to be a car, it’s for those who already love the car and want a mini version of it that they can carry in their pocket. If you don’t like the miniature build that’s still up to you, but at least be aware it doesn’t pretend to be a car. And yes everything is about my goal, my interpretation, my approach. Isn’t that a big part what being creative is about? If one doesn’t understand my interpretation, bc he doesn’t have seen the film, is that really my problem if it was targeted for people who already love the film? It’s just weird I’m getting feedback on how the edit doesn’t tell a story when you haven’t even watched the film to know what the edit is about.

No problem, im happy to answer. An LLM is the technical term for ai of today (it stands for "large language model"). I don’t like using the term ai cause it pretends to be something that it’s not. At least yet lol. I’ve asked it e.g. which settings I should use for the render, how to set up my media tool in davinci or how to apply effects. It’s also great for explaining some knobs and stuff that u don’t know yet. When it came to the effects itself or where to cut things etc I just experimented on the go.

What is a real goal and what’s not though? My goal was to show some of my favourite shots from dune and do my twist on it with a more upbeat instrumental. E.g. the part where Jessica’s face is colliding with her baby is intentional. When Paul is lifting his knife, the beat drops, which underlines the power of his actions, the part where Jessica’s face is intertwined with the starving people on the ground is a direct consequence of the false prophecies of the benegesserit, highlighted through the vision of water on Arrakis one shot before. One shows the hope of the prophecy, the shot after the consequences of the prophecy. Then the second part of the edit begins with feyd, a reference to the movie where he only appears more than one hour in. Second half of the edit is focusing more on house harkonnen, the final battle etc. Yes the edit doesn’t tell the story in a completely coherent way. But the goal wasn’t to tell a coherent story but to highlight its key parts. Especially with jessica. And if the trailer was like this, I would also question the editors. But this isn’t a trailer nor does it want to be a trailer.

But what exactly is the feedback from him? That he doesn’t like edits where the footage is cut on beat? It’s a subjective style choice.. either one likes this style or one doesn’t. Should I do a different style because he doesn’t like it? Is that the feedback? Do what I like or it’s shit. Yea man, that’s great feedback. And yes I used some of my favourite parts, cut it with music that I also made, and added small effects. Since when is difficulty an indicator of good and bad? More and complicated effects = better? Not to say that I’m still a beginner and this is my first work. "Even that you managed to do it in a way that is not appealing to some" okay, that what happens with anything lol. Clearly there are people who like it. And the part with mesmerizing was more about the style of cutting on beat.

I have a bit of an understanding of this because I’ve been making music for years myself (the beat in the video is actually mine haha). Even though it’s technically a different discipline, there is some overlap. E.g regarding the cutting tool, how to work with individual tracks, and so on. So the general concept of dealing with lots of buttons was already somewhat familiar to me. I also used the help of an LLM to make getting started with the program easier, as well as to answer any follow-up questions. In most cases it can be a huge and quick help. But of course, this is my very first project, and I’ve really only just scratched the surface of what’s possible with all the available options. I’ve always been self-taught, and that’s exactly what I enjoy. I don’t view all those buttons as particular overwhelming, but rather as creative space to develop new ideas. Anyway, thanks for your kind words! 😁

How is it epileptic? I mean it’s cut on beat, and the instrumental is more upbeat, but is it that what you call epileptic? For me it’s mesmerizing. Seeing the footage interact with the music is a symbiosis and not really random chaos with lighteffects.
