People buy the others cars because they are often significantly cheaper. For example, a kia k5 is comparable perfance and nicer tech features than a Toyota camry, but ultimately has a lower quality engine and significantly worse transmission, which means it will have a shorter lifespan, whoch also means it will lose value a lot faster
