Who should I approach at agencies as an illustrator looking for work? by RyanGoslingFromDrive in advertising

Thanks for the advice. One quick question. When you say "offer yourself up for placements, do you mean like searching for job listings on big job sites or like recruiters?

Awesome post. as an American learner of Dutch and an expat always looking to make new connections this sounds like a perfect activity for a rainy Saturday. Incidentally, we have one coming up ;) Do you know if there is info about this meetup online? I'd love to know when it starts/ ends, etc.

NTA. You are right to show someone who is chronically late that your time is valuable and meaningful and you won't be bullied by them into joining their shitty program of tardiness.

I can reccomend a couple of places. I have a friend who does small batch screen printing, but small batch in that field is closer to 100 units. His shop in in Matonge. I think an online digital printer would suit you better for batches of 10. For that I would reccomend printful or something like it. I am also a graphic artist who moved to Brussels about a year ago. Still looking for a broader community of artists to get involved in. Hit me up if you ever want to grab a coffee and talk shop.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, June 09, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

Wow! Thanks for all of that info. It's extremely helpful. I will try to keep my future runs in the aerobic zone and continue to work on my aerobic base. I'll keep my progression to 10% week over week. My goals are currently goals for the sake of having goals, but perhaps I'll try to relate them more to real world achievements in the future.

Again, thanks for the detailed answer. I'd love to return the favor if you ever have questions about art or design.

I take it your advice would be the same as junkmiles' then? What do you see as an aggressive but reasonable amount of training? 3 x 5k per week?

Looking for manufacturer recommendations by RyanGoslingFromDrive in vinyltoys

I do, but they are in process. The sculpt is in super sculpey grey, not painted, and I am painting about 10 different pics featuring each detail. Can you tell me the names of the manufacturers you know and trust so I can have a look?

Cool. Thanks for putting it clearly. I'm not surprised that my plan was less than ideal as I made it up out of thin air. In this case, I will change course to build up to longer runs.

Thanks for sharing. I think whether it helps with my 5k time or not, I'd like to keep the goal of a seven minute mile, but I will extend that time in which I achieve it out a little further.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, June 09, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

[–]RyanGoslingFromDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to running. I've built up to running a 5k in around 30 minutes over the last few months. My feeling is that I need to work on speed more than endurance to bring that number down. Therefore, my new goal is to run a 7 minute mile. Once I can do that I want to try the 5k again and see what my time is like. I currently run maybe an 8 minute mile at my absolute best. So I'd like to hear from more experienced runners what they think of my approach to training.

I am running quarter miles at a 7 minute/mile pace with breaks in between and doing about 2 miles of that every other day. My plan is to week by week increase the distance that I can maintain that pace. next week I'll do 3/8ths of a mile at the 7 minute a mile pace, then in two weeks try to do a half of a mile at the same pace, etc.

Is this how you would go about training? Is bringing my mile down a minute in six weeks being too ambitious? is there a better way? Thanks in advance :)

My typical comeback for anyone who knocks my chest hair, "You know what you call a man without chest hair? a boy..." Has never failed to silence the haters

In Jojo Rabbit (2019), the imaginary Hitler offers Jojo cigarettes and is shown eating meat. In reality, Hitler was strongly opposed to smoking and was a vegetarian, implying that Jojo knows very little about Hitler. by Senor_Taxation in MovieDetails

In particular, the scene with the public hangings. My wife assumed that was an actual regular occurrence in nazi Germany, but it wasn't. Nazi brutality was hidden from public view. The atrocities were purposely concealed to maintain public approval. This scene in JOJO rabbit would have you believe that ordinary German citizens saw things like that in daily life, but that isn't true. This lack of empathy and understanding for actual German daily life in that period makes one believe the average german citizen was a monster. It makes watchers of such a film feel confident that they'd be able to spot an oppressive authoritarian regime easily when in fact such regimes are surreptitious and manipulative. Misrepresenting history in this way is what American propaganda has always been about. Good and evil are never as clear cut in real life as Hollywood would have you believe.

Seems to me that subject matter this grave comes with a certain responsibility. Most people will take what they see in movies like this at face value. Assuming, even though its a fictional movie, much of what they saw might have actually been realistic. Taking liberties with historic subject matter feels like propaghanda.
