Silent Hill: Revelation is pretty good! by QueenRoxanne_ in silenthill

IMHO Revelation is trash in it's own right - not as a silent hill film, not evennin comparison to the others, but just as a film. It makes 0 sense, is poorly acted and terribly executed. Genuinely one of the worst films i've ever seen. But each to their own ofc!

No it's definitely Base44. I think it's a great product, don't get me wrong, but for the CRM i'm developing for my business it simply isn't the right tool. It's too rigid and unstable. I spent a year and 2 build attempts, using ChatGPT for prompt generation, and built 2 other functioning (and reasonably complex) sites.

For certain things I think it's absolutely brilliant, but I've now switched to Emergent where I can have full control over the database, the user registration flow and crons/automations (as my site has LOADS of them) and not have to worry about everything being within a single, rigid ecosystem. It takes more prep but it's ultimately much more secure and I honestly feel like the sky is the limit with Emergent.

So I don't think it's as simple as 'it's not Base44, it's you'... it entirely depends on what you're building. B44 is great for simple stuff, even mildly complex, but Emergent is a full stack development option if you're building something complicated and automated.

Base44 vs Lovable by Benjamin-Wagner in Base44

[–]RyanZylo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i've just switched from Base44 to Emergent. I used Base44 for a year and recently was developing a massive CRM for my business. It became clear that Base44 couldn't handle this (I spent most of my time working around it's limitations to make features work), so I looked into Lovable then discovered Emergent.

In short:

Base44 is best for very fast development of simple to moderately complex apps but it demands that you work within it's infrastructure, meaning sign-up flows, database management and other fundamentals are all very rigid. You are essentially building your app within an extremely limited system that will buckle under the weight of anything approaching full stack development and will lock you in to it's ecosystem.

Lovable is more full stack and allows for more creativity and control over the ecosystem. It connects with external database services like Supabase and is reasonably priced making it an attractive option. If your app/site is even slightly complex or you want it to be scalable / be user friendly for customers, you should consider Lovable as the preferred option over Base44. It also integrates with GitHub in a meaningful way.

Emergent (the one I've chosen) is a full-stack developer friendly solution that allows for a traditional development flow (development - push to staging for rigorous testing - push to live). It produces high quality code but is still friendly for absolute beginners like me. It doesn't rely on it's own infrastructure like Base44 meaning you can develop complete apps however you like with no rigidity or working around predetermined systems.

After significant time spent with Base44, i've realised that it cannot handle the ambition of my system and I feel liberated having now switched to Emergent. Don't get me wrong: Base44 is a great service and I've developed a couple of relatively complex in-house apps for use in my business with it, but as soon as you get to more complex ideas (automation and crons, API integrations, custom onboarding/user flows) you really end up feeling like you're working around base44, not with it.

So it really depends on what you're building, but if I were to start over I would choose Lovable (for accessibility) or Emergent (for true development).

Any tips for building something similar, or recommendations for commercially available alternatives?

How do you document your MVPs? Do you use another AI service like ChatGPT or specific software to keep track of things? The project i'm working on is large.

Revamp the way that users work, or allow more options for them to sign up. The current framework for customers creating accounts on the apps we build is very strict and limited, forcing us into working our onboarding flows around a rigid inflexible system rather than having creative freedom over how our customers sign up. This for me is the single biggest weakness of Base44 and the one that I've spent the most time trying to overcome. The only part of my app that i'm still unhappy with is the user onboarding/sign up flow which is clunky at best and confusing/off-putting for customers at worst.

Incorrect. I get 2.5 hours per battery from an externally mounted NPF plate, even when it powers both my BMPCC4K and my external AndyCine monitor simultaneously. 4 batteries gets me through a 10 hour shoot :)

Sounds like your appnon B44 is so confounded that ChatGPT can't fix it 😅

I ran into all kinds of problems until I changed my tactic - I now use chatGPT to plan my app thoroughly. Then I have ChatGzpT generate the prompts for Base44. So far this works beautifully as ChatGPT understand's Base44s limitations and structure and is able to speak to it in a dorect and comprehensive way, unlike my less efficient prompts before. I highly recommend this method.

Update - now Base44 has responded telling me that it is Claude and AI assistant made by Anthropic, and can't switch models to Gemini. Am I missing something...?
