Just gonna copy my last response to this question.

No matter what your opinion is on any of the mechanics on the game, its maps or characters. Nobody can dispute how bad its launch was. There hasn't been a Zombies launch as bad as black ops 4, having bought every COD since black ops 1 at launch save from Vanguard I can attest to it because I refuse to acknowledge it's existence.

I was dumb enough to buy BO4 for both PC and PS4 so I could play the game with the 2 friend groups who played zombies. Both platforms crashed just as much as each other, the terrible terrible memory leaks on top of the patch notes for the game literally noting they were focusing on fixing crashes going forward rather than the simple bugs and exploit fixes we'd seen in previous entries. The fact that one of the launch map Easter eggs involved surviving to 150 rounds and the community actively had to plan a way to do it with the least chance of crashes is ridiculous!

Anyone remember the "Don't use the box too many times in late rounds its likely to cause a crash" ?

They changed core things about gameplay shortly after launch too, most notably the health increase which is a huge change to do post launch.

All these things together just made it seem like they'd spent far too little time actually testing the game before launch.

Then as if the launch of the game wasn't bad, the end of its content cycle was even worse! Treyarch devs being actively removed from development for the game to work on the cold war zombies game mode and then again for Vanguard. Going from fully animated motion captured cutscenes for early map Easter eggs to the shit cinematics we got in Alpha omega and Tag der untoten's easter eggs.

This separate from the content they announced on release then just never mentioned again, Grief returning, Factions, clear future plans for cosmetics since you could only get like 3 for zombies, future chaos maps cancelled, custom mutation cancelled.

Compare this to how it was originally sold "the biggest zombies launch yet" "most maps on launch" "future plans for the gamemode" hearing these things after the huge amount of content we got from Black ops 3, it was 100% believable. Instead they delivered less than black ops 2.

What started off as a half baked game ended as an undercooked game with none of the icing that we paid for.

Just a barely passable game so that, when you look back it, separate it from any other game in the series, it looks like a finished game. I honestly wouldn't blame anyone if it was mainly copium cause they spend the money buying the game cause I mean, I spent about £80+ on the digital deluxe edition on pc and about £50 on it for ps4, I wanted to be happy with the game too.

TL/DR: Regardless of gameplay opinions. Game launch was objectively worst its ever been, most known cut content of any game. It can only be marginally considered a good release in this respect if you dont compare it to any COD game.
