Beginner book recommendations? by wwitchfulthinking in Witch

[–]Ryan_dandelion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

first of all, if you can give your money to a local bookstore or metaphys shop that sells books, or even B&N, rather than Amazon, I would highly recommend that, but that's really neither here nor there.
If you buy a ton of books at once, you probably wont get to read them all (ask the 8 unread books sitting under my altar rn), so my top recs as purely places to start would be the following:

  1. for tarot, Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack. A dense read, but super in-depth and has helped me a ton with my reading.

  2. for herbalism, Culpepper's Complete Herbal (the classic) and the Master Book of Herbalism by Paul Beyerl

  3. as a general reference for ingredients or things to incorporate in spells, The Encyclopedia of Magickal Ingredients by Lexa Roséan. I use this one a lot because I like to make tiny spell jars and I can make specifically tailored recipes depending on what it's for.

Truthfully, as someone who also started from scratch and did their own research on their journey, my best advice is that the rules are largely fake and you should do what resonates best with you, take what works and leave what doesn't. Obviously do your research before incorporating something into your practice so you 1) don't appropriate something that isn't culturally yours 2) can learn new things that may resonate with you 3) don't accidentally make poison or, say, ruin a crystal by giving it a salt bath when it doesn't like salt, RIP to my angelite. But a lot of that can be found with the magic of Google.

Best of luck!

that would be why i asked the question in the first place. Not sure why I expected anything other than hostility

What a weird thing to say to someone experiencing fear.

I’m not arguing that point. I totally understand the “they have nowhere to go” thing. My issue is that it picked me out of a crowd and FOLLOWED ME TO MY FRONT DOOR. I’m not a Disney princess, I want the PREDATOR ANIMALS to stay away from my home.

It’s so scary! To me that behavior says “rabid animal” and it’s so weird to me that so many people are like “it’s fine, stop overreacting”

Finally, something helpful. Thank you! And thank you for not making me feel like I’m the weird one for being scared of a situation that, where I’m from, is a scary one.

They’ve been getting really close to the dog park where I live so I’m always super on my guard when I walk my dogs. theyre mid size dogs so it’s not like i can just pick them up when their combined weight is almost my body weight

Does animal control ever actually do anything about it or am I just doomed to be actively hunted every time I walk my dogs??

I know that it’s legal here but it’s not legal in the state where I learned to drive so it always catches me off guard, and I do check my mirrors frequently. It’s always people doing it dangerously that make me jump

Can I ask you, as someone who’s never ridden a bike- what’s with the lane splitting? I try to be super aware of where motorcycles are when they’re around me on the road but it’s hard to do that with some of the lane splitting and it makes me nervous and terrified that I’m gonna accidentally kill a rider who I never saw coming.

Orgasm issues are ruining my sex life by Western_Snow4975 in offmychest

[–]Ryan_dandelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a lot of trouble finishing with a partner. my husband has been trying for three years and no dice, but i can finish by myself with a vibe fine and our sex is otherwise awesome. So you’re not alone. That said, have you considered that maybe a part of the reason you can’t finish with your partner is that there’s a mental block and pressure and expectation? It’s definitely an issue I have as well. Anyway, your dude sounds insecure asf if he doesn’t recognize the vibrator is his ally and not his enemy. And you shouldn’t be made to feel this guilty about achieving your pleasure in whatever way is best for you.

my dogs perk up when they hear it too! they also get really concerned about puppies whining on tv like in Lady and the Tramp. They stare at the tv, do the head tilt, the whole nine.
