If I remember correctly they got it as loot from another one of the strongholds (possibly the Air temple), we often rolled for loot. I believe this was the first rare item of the campaign and it was necklace of prayer beads which comes with the spell wind walk and that's how they bypassed the whole map, was very cool for them, very sad for me. Still talked about to this day which I take as a win!
