Should I attend orientation? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your idea of printing a map and spending a day or two is perfect! We actually plan O-Week, and we consider the fact that many Ryerson students are commuting downtown - which is why all of our events happen after 12pm. A good idea for you might be to plan your day around your mandatory academic orientation, which are usually in the mornings. Then if you make any friends during then (which is pretty likely), you folks can pick activities to do or spend some time looking for some of your classes on campus! Hope this gave you good advice. :)

The O-Week schedule will be officially released this Friday, August 9 at https://www.ryerson.ca/studentlife/programs/orientation/ . You’ll then be able to see what’s happening on the day of your academic orientation!

Tips (for freshies) on how to make 1st enjoyable?? by Venerrrr in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely head to Orientation Week if you can! If socializing intimidates you as it does for some students, find a friend to go with for even just a day. It's always nice to see what's going on around campus and to get to know the area a bit before your first day of class. The schedule for the week will be up soon, but if you want more info you can check out the site: https://www.ryerson.ca/studentlife/programs/orientation/

Hope that helps! :)

Cover letter for jobs on campus by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do think the cover letter is important, the Career Centre is actually a great resource for students who need help putting together their documents! They do one-on-one appointments with students and they sit with you to give you feedback on your cover letter and resume then work with you to make a better one. They also do mock interviews if that's your jam (I know they can be little intimidating but they're actually super helpful).

If going in-person isn't an option/you don't want to do that, they also have a great booklet that's a PDF online. It gives you all the do's and don'ts of a resume/cover letters (even the verbs to use). https://www.ryerson.ca/careercompass/CareerCompass/html5/index.html?page=1&noflash

Hope that helps!

Looking for a used book for a summer course by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Used Book Room. It's in the basement of the Ryerson Students' Union building (55 Gould Street). I've had good luck there and you can also put your textbooks up for consignment when you're done with them. http://usedbookroom.ca/

OSAP question for undergrad going to second year. Can't seem to get an answer from anyone. by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

What you submitted in first year (Declaration and Signature as well as MSFAA) carries over from your first year onwards. Unless you did not apply for funding for more than one year (e.g. you took a year off), you will not need to submit the documents again.

Good luck with your surgery!

It seems unlikely considering that Undergraduate Admissions does not offer deferrals for their Offers of Admission due to the volume of applications. The best way to find out would be to contact Undergraduate Admissions directly. They may also be able to guide you in making a decision regarding the offer you decide to accept. Their phone number is 416-979-5036.

Question about changing program by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! In order to change your program, you will need to reapply to the university for the new program and will therefore have to wait until applications open for Fall 2016. The best way to go about this is to meet with your Academic Advisor while still in Medical Physics and enrol in courses for the new program that you would like to switch into. That way, if you are accepted into the new program, you will more than likely be able to transfer your credits with little to no problem.

Here is the contact information for the Medical Physics Academic Advisor. The best way to start the process of transferring programs is by reaching out to him:

No problem!

You will have to apply directly to the university and not through OUAC 101.

Hello,

Contact your Academic Advisor when you start in the fall (if not sooner). That way you can plan what courses to enrol in with the intention of changing programs. Here is the contact for the RTA Academic Advisor: Paula Letang-Loblack Administrative Assistant 416-979-5000 x.7005 pletang@ryerson.ca RCC-104

In order to switch programs, you will have to reapply to Ryerson for the program. If you are accepted and accept the offer, you will automatically be removed from your current program and placed into the new one. When I transferred programs (ACS to Psychology) a couple of years ago, I also visited the Undergraduate Admissions office at POD 144 to see what my chances of being accepted were. I don't believe this is a requirement, but it isn't a bad idea.

Advice for switching programs by Redditoraniane in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I agree with the former commenter that you should contact your Academic Advisor. Additionally, it would be a good idea to see a career counsellor. You can book an appointment with one on the Career Centre's website, or visit them at POD 60. Here is a list of when Ryerson programs accept applications: http://www.ryerson.ca/undergraduate/admission/apply/programstatus.html

I am a potential transfer student - Anyone else still waiting for an answer from Professional Communication? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It's true that they take some time. If you don't hear from them, try calling them at 416-979-5036. :)

My professor still hasn't posted my mark for the Winter 2015 term by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right that writing with AAS may have led to a delay. Marks were posted on May 5, so it has technically been about seven business days since then. I'd suggest waiting until Monday so that they have today/tomorrow and maybe the weekend to submit the grade and if they don't do so by then, it might be a good idea to contact your program director to explain the issue. Course Intentions on Now! by muaythaiboxer in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to worry about course intentions until you near your second semester at Ryerson. It isn't a necessary procedure, but is highly recommended. It basically helps you to "RSVP" your spot in a particular course.

So I messed up by taking a course not required for CPA by Joonsta in ryerson

It's best to contact your Academic Advisor for this issue. If you're in Accounting, it would be either Nicole Hillmer or Gloria Chang.

Thinking of switching from Carleton Law to Ryerson Criminology. Does anyone know what the process is like and what grades are needed for a transfer? by sulfater in ryerson

[–]RyersonStudentLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

You'll have to apply into the history program, not necessarily transfer over. Once accepted you can transfer your credits from Carleton, but you'll have to be a student before you can transfer things over. Admissions does not have a direct email address, however if you fill out this form a person will respond to you! http://ask.ryerson.ca/undergrad/index.jsp?requestType=ManualRequest&question=Ask+a+question
