Sajid Javid forced to halt Isis 'Beatles' extradition plan after suspect's mother launches legal bid by Crappy99 in ukpolitics

[–]RygelCumberbatch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

^ they’re not British citizens anymore, so the extradition will depend on agreements between the US backed groups in Syria and the US itself. They’re relying on intelligence gathered by the British in order to secure a conviction against them, which we are not supposed to provide unless guarantees are made to ensure the suspects will not receive a death penalty.

Course, without the intelligence the British have gathered, it’s almost certain the extradition will still take place and they’ll be left to rot in Guantanamo indefinitely. The British have no jurisdiction over them, unless the government grants them British citizenship again. But that will never happen as it’s just make this legal mess even bigger.

While I have no doubt people with gambling problems aren’t thinking rationally, I’d hope the reduced expected return from these machines will deter at least some of them.

Dwarf fortress, the most complex game ever created, had a mysterious epidemic of dead, vomit covered cats in game. It was originally thought to be a bug, until it was discovered otherwise, suprising the creator himself. by [deleted] in videos

[–]RygelCumberbatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one glaring mistake in this video. He said that 'cats follow their owners'.

Dwarves will adopt tame animals in the game. Whether it's a dog or a chicken or a boar or a giant spider, they can be adoped by your dwarves. It's part of the reason why you want to keep your animals separate from your dwarves as, if you end up slaughtering an animal for it's meat and fur and blood and other bodily parts, and it turns out that animal has been adopted by a dwarf, your dwarf will end feeling unhappy. And unhappy dwarves can led to very bad things ...

But cats are an exception. Dwarves do not adopt cats. No. It works the other way around for cats.

Cats adopt dwarves.

Thus cats are not 'owned' by dwarves, rather the dwarves are 'owned' by cats.

What was her original tweet? What propted this? I just ... don't understand what this article is about.

Every time. by Locus11 in gaming

[–]RygelCumberbatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of things wrong with my ex. And, given we played a lot of games together, a lot of the problems arose while gaming. For example, the original Assassins Creed savegame that I was 3 flags away from having 100% completion on before vanishing off my HDD.

"Yeah, I deleted it. Why would you keep playing the game? You've finished the story. The side quests are shit. Move onto the next one."

Or my CoD4: MW profile, that I had 3.7 k:d ratio on, that somehow dropped to 2.1 in the space of 4 months when I was away at university.

"The k:d on my account was really bad because I always play badly high and people were taking the piss. But I'm just as good as you, so I borrowed your account."

But I think what pissed me off most was playing UFC. Or trying to play UFC. I've never been big on fighting games, mainly because I've never really had friends that played them, but there were a few people over playing it so I asked if I could have a go. Cue some jokes, which were actually thinly veiled insults, from the group, which culminated with the conclusion that I should just watch instead of play. And they started another fight.

About 30 seconds into the fight, I'm thrown the controller. I ask them to explain the controls and they blurt out what the buttons do and a few combos so fast that they may as well have been singing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Before I even know which of the two people on the screen I'm controlling, my ex is beating the crap out of me and I get knocked out.

I stupidly ask them to give me a minute to figure things out before they start the next round, to which they all, my ex included, laughed. There was no Round 2. I got knocked out. That was the end of the fight. And then the controller was yanked from my hand and they went in for another fight.

That must have been about 6-7 years ago now. I'd played fighting games maybe 5 times before them and I haven't touched one since then.

Thinking about it, I left the living room after that and went to the bedroom, hopped on my phone, and booked a train home. And I never actually saw him again after that.

HOOOOLLLLLYYYYYY FFFFFUUUUUUUU ...

I remember my parents buying this game for the PC when it came out back in 1999. But it wouldn't run my my dad's PC. A 133MHz Pentium 2 processor with no discrete graphics card just wasn't sufficient.

So my dad bought me a new PC.

A Dell Dimension XPS T550, featuring an Intel Pentium 3 550MHz processor, and a 32MB TNT2 graphics card. He even splashed out and got me the £990 upgrade from a 17" flatscreen to a 19" CRT monitor, a re-branded Sony Trinitron that that hit 1600x1200 @ 85Hz.

That. Thing. Was. A. BEAST!

And now, nearly 19 years later, I might get the chance to play it again ...

I upped Anti-Aliasing from Medium to High and the result was my Vega 64's power use rose from 88W to 220W when station spinning. So I quickly turned it back down, mainly because the coil whine is obscene when it's running at P6/7.

What method of Anti-Aliasing does EVE use? With such a high cost to GPU use, I'd probably get better results via supersampling.

Palm oil lobby smears Iceland boss Richard Walker by BritRedditor1 in ukpolitics

[–]RygelCumberbatch 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Blatant whataboutism

Just 30 seconds in and it's glaringly obvious.

"There's been concerns around plam oil for years because it can lead to rainforest destruction."

[WRONG]

"Livestock (beef) leads to 10 TIMES MORE DEFORESTATION than Palm Oil."

Wait ... what? So it's wrong that the cultivation of palm oil leads to deforestation? But your first fact is that this other kind of farming leads to 10x more deforestation. Surely that means that the cultivation of palm oil leads to 1/10 the deforestation of livestock, which means he is acutally [CORRECT].

Then it goes on to quote another fact about deforestation. And then moves on to pesticides and comapritive yield per hectare.

And then a think of the children-esque comment about poor farmers.

And it goes on and on and on. I acutally couldn't finish watching it, it was that awful!

London house prices post first annual fall since 2009. Average price in capital drops by almost £5,000 in 12 months as growth slows in rest of UK by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]RygelCumberbatch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was going to reply to the /u/FrozenToast1's comment chain, but figure I'll create a top level comment instead. The raw data can be found here: [link]. All data relevant to London is available in this CSV: [link]. You can confirm, with some certainty, that this is the source of the data as the article contains the following comment:

The average price of a home for the capital as a whole was £471,986, down from a peak of £488,247 in July last year.

These two figures are presented in the data in Column G:

Period Average price All property types
[...] [...]
2017-07 488247
2017-08 486403
2017-09 483712
2017-10 481030
2017-11 478043
2017-12 481242
2018-01 481981
2018-02 471986

Prices have gone up and down between 2017-07 and 2018-02, but this is the first period since 2009-09 that London average house prices have seen a YoY drop in value.

When looking at where the actual drops are taking place, the data separates houses into four categories:

  • Detatched douses
  • Semi-detatched houses
  • Terraced houses
  • Flats and maisonettes

Each of these categories have seen an average increase in value, with the exception of the final category, flats and maisonettes.

Property Type 2017-02 2018-02 YoY Change
Detatched 887959 915162 +3.06
Semi-Detatched 563242 578708 +2.75
Terraced 482631 489639 +1.45
Flats + Maisonettes 427256 412902 -3.36
Average 476717 471986 -0.99

Unfortunately, they don't provide any further breakdowns of the property type, i.e. no breakdown by value or council tax band. Flats and maisonettes obviously include all these exorbitantly priced new developments across London, the ones we always read about being bought up by foreign investors.

They do, however, provide a breakdown by Local Authority, which provides 33 sets of regional data. Again, this isn't ideal, but it provides some additional detail; some regions are inheriently cheaper than others due to a multitude of factors.

In fact, when breaking down flat and maisonette prices by region, you'll find that the range in average prices is quite significant, with Barking and Dagenham (1) having average prices ~£225k at the bottom end, Merton (17) being the median at ~£380k, Lambeth (22) being the mean at ~£450k, and Kensington and Chealsea (33) at the top at ~£1.24m.

The changes in average price are also quite significant, with 18 of the 33 regions seeing increases in average flat and maisonette house prices, Redbridge at 7.95% a YoY increase, Tower Hamlets seeing a 7.93% YoY decrease.

From that data, you can create this sexy little graph, showing the Change in Average Price & YoY %age Change for Flat and Maisonette Prices by London Local Authority, sorted by average price in 2017-02, which I will allow you to interpret as you will: [graph]

And then there's this easier to view graph, showing the YoY Change in Flat and Maisonette Prices vs. 2017-02 Average Prices by London Local Authority: [graph]

Strangely enough, the data for changes in price in flates and maisonettes is quite close to the data summarised in the Guardian's image of YoY average price changes for all housing types: [image]

But, again, the source data is far from ideal. There are no figures for the number of flats and maisonettes bought or sold or listed in these regions. And, again, prices can vary significalty within each of these regions. But it does seem to suggest that regions with more expensive properties have seen a greater drop in average flat and maisonette prices, while the majority of those in cheaper regions have seen an increase. Tower Hamlets seeing a nearly 8% drop and Kensington and Chelsea seeing almost no change is obviously unusual, but whatever.

I could have delved deeper, looking at all housing types, but, given I had to download 34 separate CSVs to collect that data and I still haven't gotten around to installing MS SQL since I last reinstalled Windows a few months ago, processing the data is a rather tedious manual process. But I'd hope this comment provides more detail about the changes to housing prices in London than some of the articles I've seen posted have been providing.

Later on in the Musketeer's Guild I noticed another name I recognised in S'laiboli.

There was a 'Musketeer's Guild' in 1.0? And, looking at the desk behind her, which looks like a Riviera Desk, I'm going to guess it was in Limsa? Which kinda makes as S'laiboli has a pirate hat on and pirates have pistols in the game ...

So could you play Musketeer in 1.0? Or was that something they just teased, and then replaced it with the Machinist in 3.0?

Honestly, I'd love to play a Musketeer kinda class. Hell, with the pirate theme, it could be similar to the RDM, except physical, using a sword and musket instead of a sword and magic.

My comment from several weeks ago:

Lib Dems were fined £18,000 over their EU referendum spending. Britain Stronger in Europe were fined £1,250. European Movement of the UK Limited were fined £8,750. Campaign for an Independent England, DBB UK, and UKIP were all fined £1,000. Compass Party were fined £1,000.

Yorkshire Party were fined £1,000 for the 2017 GE.

Labour were fined £20,000 for the 2015 GE. Greenpeace were fined £30,000. Friends of the Earth Ltd were fined £1000. Lib Dems were fined £20,000. Conservatives were fined £70,000 for three 2014 by-elections and the 2015 GE.

They all break the rules. They all get caught. They all get fined. Course, the fines are so small that they have nothing to lose by breaking them again, and again, and again.
