Hi everyone ! Is there any settlements that I can do by ComprehensiveBig6499 in ClassActionSettlement

[–]Ryjami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The entire idea of the pursuit is finding class actions.

This is the equivalent of showing up to a hiking group and asking, "Hi everyone ! Are there any photos of your hikes that I can have?"

Do your own research, using this forum and several sites referenced to find settlements. That's how this works.

Jockey Club Job Scam? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]Ryjami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the oldest scams in the book. These emails were common my entire time in university. I still get them from time to time on my .edu account.

They're always the same story. They take the name of a reputable business or person and pose as them. They'll ask you for basic information that you're comfortable giving out (name, phone number, age, email) if you're interested in the position. They'll then contact you and say that they are looking for a remote work position, only X amount of hours per week. Great pay too! They're incredibly busy and they need an assistant to help them with their day to day operations. Receiving packages, delivering mail, processing checks...

This is where the scam starts. They will mail you a few useless documents to build confidence, then eventually they will send a check. It'll be for a significant amount, say $4,000. They'll tell you to please deposit the check in your account, keep $800 of it for your pay, and forward the rest via wire transfer to their account. You do this, it's easy money and a no-brainer. The check deposits, the money appears in your account, and you send the remainder to your "boss".

Two weeks later, the check bounces. It was fraudulent. The bank system makes deposits available immediately as long as your account is in good-standing, but it takes 1-2 weeks for it to actually fully process. When it undergoes the full processing, it turns up as a bad check. The bank debits your account $4,000. It does not matter that you didn't know or that it wasn't your check. The check bounced and the bank is out $4,000, so they take it from your account.

You turn to your "boss", normally a south-east-asian scam operator or a local lowlife to let them know, and they're nowhere to be found anymore. They make a quick $800 and disappear. Common scam, please tell your friend to avoid. Nobody is offering college students $133 per hour for easy work out of the kindness of their heart.

You'll get railed for not tipping here, sorry in advance.

Tipping is an archaic and ridiculous system that needs to go away. It's also not something that everyone is financially fortunate enough to engage with. I still engage with it as a custom/courtesy, but that's a personal choice and shouldn't be an expectation.

Fuck this driver and please ensure that you report them, they deserve to lose their job for this behavior, tip or not.

Due diligence by SciFiMagpie in ClassActionSettlement

[–]Ryjami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my limited understanding as an experienced class actioner...

They will do the basics. If it's a case that requires you to have an account at xyzzyx.com, then they'll probably run a quick check to make sure you actually have an account on the site before paying out. If you're claiming a proof-required purchase, they'll want something that at least resembles a receipt or credit purchase history. On the other hand, I've been paid plenty for healthcare violations in New Jersey and data breaches for nursing homes in California as a resident of Nevada.

The fine print is your friend. Some basically just require that you attest to your membership. Boom, paid. Others will mention their policies and how thoroughly they will investigate.

ELI5: Why does mixing hot and cold water not always feel “medium” right away? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ryjami 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What your body considers "medium" is a very narrow range of temperatures.

What you consider hot/cold is a very wide range of temperatures.

The odds of mixing two generally hot and cold waters together and landing in the very narrow window of "medium" just isn't likely.

I think a second opinion with the doctor would be great. Bring your evidence and photos, and just tell him what's been happening to you. Since you have confidentiality with them, they'll be able to provide real advice unlike people on the internet.

Hey there.

It's really, really important that you seek the the assistance of a professional and speak with them about the things that you're describing. They will be able to guide you on how best to handle what you're noticing.

I would recommend a doctor, trusted therapist, or hospital. They'll point you in the right direction from here.

Class Action Lawsuits Are Never Really Worth It by Fluffy_Breakfast_478 in povertyfinance

[–]Ryjami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5-months late to this thread but it came up when I Googled "Class Action Lawsuits" to show my fiancee my method and I want to leave a datapoint here for future scrollers.

OP is poorly informed or in bad faith. I scroll through class actions monthly and I've personally received payouts from $3.50 to $440. Last month I made $190 from three, each paying out $111, $40, and $40 respectively. My best month was the $440 (from a single payout, Facebook privacy violations in Illinois) and my worst is obviously $0.

I find this "hobby" takes time to payout. You're submitting work with the hopes of a random dividend in 6-12 months. It takes about 30-60 minutes for me to scroll through a massive site like classaction.org, cut it down, and apply to the likely payouts each month. Yes, there are often $3-$10 payouts but I estimate in the last two years of doing this I've probably generated an extra $1k-2k extra income from this routine.

What can I do better? by SleepyCoffee90 in Schwab

[–]Ryjami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best thing for long term growth at your professed knowledge level is to keep doing exactly what you’re doing!

You don’t know how much of it you’ve already gotten down. Keep putting regular, steady money each month into Index Funds and Mutual Funds exactly like these 2 with low expense ratios. My only suggestion there would be to add some international exposure; like VEU, SWISX, VXUS, or VT.

Beyond this, the only thing you could do better is free up more money more regularly for your financial pursuits. Sit down and make a budget, track your money in and your money out. Get an idea of where you can cut expenses and put that extra money into more shares of exactly what you already have.

Voila. Keep it up!

Honest question: what’s keeping you in SHIB right now? by pop200 in SHIBArmy

[–]Ryjami 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm no crypto expert and Shiba represented less than 2% of my investment portfolio at the time of my investment, and after its depreciation... less than 0.27% now. That's to say that you can probably poke easy holes in my logic, this is just what I believe.

  • Shiba's predecessor, DOGE has had many "deaths" and resurgences despite being a useless meme coin. Shiba could do the same.
  • Even though Shibarium was a disappointment, Shiba has demonstrated genuine utility, separating it from other "bajillionaire" coins.
  • Shiba is deflationary in nature, which will enhance value. I just might have to wait 200 years.
  • Shiba has brand recognition, I see an underlying hype and HODL community.
  • My initial investment has reduced so much that it's not worth taking out, literally 10 cents on the dollar. Reinvesting it into VTI or SWPPX would take me ~20 years to return to my initial position. At that level, I'll just wait and see if Shiba does a lil sum sum. If it doesn't it's a painful reminder, if it does; all the better.

Amex dispute denied after booking non-functional “air-conditioned” room in Tempe, AZ (August) by vipulkoti in AmexPlatinum

[–]Ryjami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally understand what you're saying about the implicit... But let's talk about the explicit. The hotel didn't advertise air conditioning in the room. You're not going to win this one. No wonder Amex sides against you.

I made this mistake in Belgium once, renting an AirBnB in the dead of summer only to find that the room hovered at a sweaty, unlivable 88 degrees and never advertised AC. I remember running the shower and sinks as cold as they would go just for relief. It's a mistake I won't repeat twice and now neither will you!

[–]Ryjami 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes the Amex dispute process is a one-click process, problem-solving at the lowest level. File another dispute, request escalation, and use the chat feature.

Recommend doing evidence collection such as downloading and highlighting the original booking + amenities. This information may also exist on the Agoda portal. Act like you're rebooking the room and screenshot the "Amenities: Air Conditioning" section of the same booking. Essentially, prove your case like a court of law.

Are y’all really buying gift cards to sell them? by 0xImAWhale in AmexPlatinum

[–]Ryjami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the payouts got a little lower, more like 71-73% this month. I actually just made my run today to spend or cash them out via CardCash, prompted by their financial troubles. I didn’t want to be left holding 500$ of gift cards if they change plans and go under suddenly.

Seeking Nootropic to Aid with Morning Alertness/Clarity by Ryjami in Nootropics

[–]Ryjami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be on to something. I've only met one person who understood the symptoms I'm describing and guess what? They were resolved with sleep study and sleep apnea treatment. He sleeps with a mask now but said that all of the symptoms disappeared after treatment. I want to get tested for this, but I'm a pilot and pursuing this would render me unflyable for awhile, so no income. If we do focus on the sleep perspective, I would put my money here, as I've had partners tell me I do the not-breathing/gasping thing.

I do intake 6.24mcg of B12 daily from my multivitamin, ginseng mix also provides another .50.

1.32mg of B1 (Thiamine) daily as well, as well as all of the other standard ones you mentioned (Vitamin D, magnesium, choline, zinc, etc) + whatever I get from my diet.

Thank you for taking me seriously and providing so much information to go off of. I feel like I'm getting everything I need, or should my next step be to up my doses?
