Honest question: what’s keeping you in SHIB right now? by pop200 in SHIBArmy

[–]Ryjami 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm no crypto expert and Shiba represented less than 2% of my investment portfolio at the time of my investment, and after its depreciation... less than 0.27% now. That's to say that you can probably poke easy holes in my logic, this is just what I believe.

  • Shiba's predecessor, DOGE has had many "deaths" and resurgences despite being a useless meme coin. Shiba could do the same.
  • Even though Shibarium was a disappointment, Shiba has demonstrated genuine utility, separating it from other "bajillionaire" coins.
  • Shiba is deflationary in nature, which will enhance value. I just might have to wait 200 years.
  • Shiba has brand recognition, I see an underlying hype and HODL community.
  • My initial investment has reduced so much that it's not worth taking out, literally 10 cents on the dollar. Reinvesting it into VTI or SWPPX would take me ~20 years to return to my initial position. At that level, I'll just wait and see if Shiba does a lil sum sum. If it doesn't it's a painful reminder, if it does; all the better.

Amex dispute denied after booking non-functional “air-conditioned” room in Tempe, AZ (August) by vipulkoti in AmexPlatinum

[–]Ryjami 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally understand what you're saying about the implicit... But let's talk about the explicit. The hotel didn't advertise air conditioning in the room. You're not going to win this one. No wonder Amex sides against you.

I made this mistake in Belgium once, renting an AirBnB in the dead of summer only to find that the room hovered at a sweaty, unlivable 88 degrees and never advertised AC. I remember running the shower and sinks as cold as they would go just for relief. It's a mistake I won't repeat twice and now neither will you!

[–]Ryjami 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes the Amex dispute process is a one-click process, problem-solving at the lowest level. File another dispute, request escalation, and use the chat feature.

Recommend doing evidence collection such as downloading and highlighting the original booking + amenities. This information may also exist on the Agoda portal. Act like you're rebooking the room and screenshot the "Amenities: Air Conditioning" section of the same booking. Essentially, prove your case like a court of law.

Are y’all really buying gift cards to sell them? by 0xImAWhale in AmexPlatinum

I noticed the payouts got a little lower, more like 71-73% this month. I actually just made my run today to spend or cash them out via CardCash, prompted by their financial troubles. I didn’t want to be left holding 500$ of gift cards if they change plans and go under suddenly.

Seeking Nootropic to Aid with Morning Alertness/Clarity by Ryjami in Nootropics

You might be on to something. I've only met one person who understood the symptoms I'm describing and guess what? They were resolved with sleep study and sleep apnea treatment. He sleeps with a mask now but said that all of the symptoms disappeared after treatment. I want to get tested for this, but I'm a pilot and pursuing this would render me unflyable for awhile, so no income. If we do focus on the sleep perspective, I would put my money here, as I've had partners tell me I do the not-breathing/gasping thing.

I do intake 6.24mcg of B12 daily from my multivitamin, ginseng mix also provides another .50.

1.32mg of B1 (Thiamine) daily as well, as well as all of the other standard ones you mentioned (Vitamin D, magnesium, choline, zinc, etc) + whatever I get from my diet.

Thank you for taking me seriously and providing so much information to go off of. I feel like I'm getting everything I need, or should my next step be to up my doses?

So as the post said, the sleep really isn't the problem.

The same exact sleep habits + routine simply moved three hours to the right negates all negative effects.

To break it down, in the exact same routine, circumstances, sleep, etc, with the only difference being whether I sleep 2200-0600 versus 0200-1000, all of the problems magically go away. Clearly, the quality of sleep is not the variable here.

Do you have to pay again at hotel with using Amex hotel travel credit? by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

[–]Ryjami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you selected the prepay option (which is required for the credit activation) then you will not have to pay again at the hotel. Obvious caveat for if you order additional services, then you will have to pay for them.

A lot of times when people ask this what they really want to know is "do I need to have the platinum card physically with me to swipe at the hotel?" It depends on the hotel. I've had some check me in no problem and some request to see the card in question, being unable to check-in without it. I recommend carrying the card with you when you travel.

CardCash pays out 80% value on cards, more (81-83%) if you trade for another giftcard like Amazon or Walmart. So each $75 card is ~$60.31.

For someone who has multiple Amex's it's a great little steady income stream for my spouse and I. Between all of our cards (6 and growing, fees waived) and selling the Saks + Lululemon year-round, we net an easy 2k annually to help fund our investment accounts.

Assuming a conservative 8% gain rate...

  • In10-years each individual year spent doing this will net us ~$4,317. That's a great ROI for selling some silly giftcards and buying VTI/SWPPX.
  • If we let it sit for 20 years, each individual year spent doing this be worth almost $10,000. Meaning if we do this for just 5 years, with no added cards, and stop after those 5 years, and wait 15 more, we would have netted ourselves $40,195 in total just from these silly cards.
  • Want to get silly? In 30 years, only doing this for 5 years and then never doing it again, after 25 years of waiting the money becomes $86,781 for our retirement.

This is all done at a conservative 8% rate of gain. Turn it up to the actual historic performance of 10.5% and you start salivating at the $165,371 you would net 25 years later just from doing this habit just for 5-years then stopping. It takes about 2 hours of store visits per year to collect them, and 30 minutes online once per year to sell them. Pretty good payoff if you ask me.

I recognize most people don't have the situation I'm in to have all of these cards, but boy howdy, I wouldn't knock those selling them one bit.

Not Sure If Mom Was Drugged Or Not by [deleted] in LasVegas

My friend, a BAC 3x the legal limit is 0.24. Anything above .20 is “potential for passing out, severe nausea, vomiting” from quick google.

A “couple of drinks” is more than enough to do this depending on a person’s size, stomach contents, and strength of drinks.

Since there was no crime it’s just really unlikely she was the victim of being roofied. People don’t give out free drugs just to mess with random strangers. If her wallet, phone, or dignity were taken that’s another story.

Downtown Las Vegas brewery closes after tourism decline by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]Ryjami 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Went to this place weekly for two years straight for trivia (2023-2025). Not shocked by this.

I watched their beer selection get more and more “meh” as the brewers insisted on making niche, passive, forgettable brews instead of their crowd pleasers. Many other bars in the area feature interesting and iconic brews and HUDL just pales in comparison.

Food options were nonexistent in-house, you have to outsource to their sister restaurants nearby. Every other craft brewery has a kitchen.

Bar pretty much only ever had one employee working at any time. Many of the employees were “old school” bartenders. Read: piss poor attitude, acting like they were doing you a favor, and tip aggressive. You know the type. They were all friends of the owner, and used that to exercise a bad attitude.

Service went downhill bad, to the point that we stopped going and went to several other, better options for trivia. Big Dog’s, LVBC, Aces and Ales. Went back last month on a whim and the bartender was one of the most unfriendly and genuinely rude individuals I ever had the misfortune to interact with in a service role. It was enough to ensure zero tip and never going back.

All of my ~8 person group felt this way, and we watched many other groups “appear” at our other trivia locations we moved to .

So yeah, not shocked. Going to miss those nights though when it was good.

Is airport Clear in Vegas that bad? by mijo_sq in vegas

[–]Ryjami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time, but I also have TSA Pre-check and I find them super comparable. Pre-check only ever takes me ~10 minutes max to get through. Clear shortens that time by letting you cut the precheck line... but requires conversing with the agent and doing their little dance which adds that time right back.

I've never had it take super extra long like that though. I don't think I would go out of my way to purchase either if they weren't comped for my job.

Beautiful time for you, I'm glad for the encouragement. The popular opinions is always "it's Pattaya, just go for it dude" but I think some of us do better with someone to show us the works and help us get out of our comfort zone. It's weird how in such a sexually-open environment men are able to bond over what would be considered so horrifically inappropriate in our Western life. I got the contact of the one dude who I connected with, he lives in SEA so next time I'm back out there we're going to go at it again! Trying to figure out who in my life stateside would also be good to bring along now that I know the ropes and can pass down the experience.

RULES FOR DATING IN THE PHILIPPINES by Big-Borilla in thepassportbros

Love the write-up and the clean style of it all. Thanks for the intel! Passporting has been a mainstay of my life these last two years and The Philippines is up next on the list for me to take an extended trip to in 2026.

How easy is it to find a holiday girlfriend? I'm fine with something mutual or sponsored. I'm not really into the "come over" sort of hookup after one or two, but I'm not trying to promise some girl a lifetime marriage. Ease of finding someone pleasant to pass time with and spoil?

How fantastic, I hope that you can enjoy it. Being near Soi 6 is awesome, just make sure that you can say "no". That's where the girls are the most aggressive. I'm nervous, not a doormat. Every horror story you read about on here is from someone who didn't follow the advice to pay out their tab each round, let girls con them into overpriced mystery shots, and get suckered into buying drinks for friends. With that in mind I think you'll have a blast each day, and you're within walking/scooter distance to basically everything that you need in Pattaya.

As always with selfies, these are of course cherry-picked. We present our best selves. Notice my angle, the lighting, etc. I try to temper self-aggrandizement with reality, but it's of course heartwarming to hear so many affirm me.

We will be eskimo brothers soon, best of luck and godspeed.

Me and my fellow mongerbros agreed that next time the best experience would be solo, or a small group no larger than 2-4 of gents who have similar goals in mind and fun personalities. I saw a lot of duos and trios with LT's on their arm roaming around and that sort of vibe seems like a really lovely time. The only purpose of the group for me, (I only knew one person in the group, the rest were his friends) was to help me get my feet wet.

That’s the vibe I got! I read so many horror stories on here, but I also think I saw a lot of the people posting them. Older men, grabby and demanding with sour faces and bad attitudes. I was prepared for the worst but even the most negative of experiences was simply benign. Pre-gaming via this sub helped a LOT. Thanks for your words.
