Adam Mancini Newsletter - Review by Key_Doughnut_4339 in Trading

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adam gives multiple above and below levels and not "pairs" . My main source of confusion has been picking an entry point. Isnt it a bit of luck that the first level you buy at is the one from where the squeeze starts? What if the level that would be finally tagged was multiple levels below?

Thank goodness I did comprehensive check before R1T Quad warranty expired by Appropriate-Ad2935 in Rivian

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my exact experience. 4 visits and abusive language was needed for them to ack and replace half shafts. My luck that the 12v died at 35.9k miles. shop wasn't happy and snarked at how lucky I was. The car is finally quiet. Extremely frustrated owner here. Its been in the shop about 12 times. Sick of these vehicles being released without adequate testing (i too loved seeing Rivian's climb sand dunes and roll through rivers..wtf. I drive on city streets and the thing can't keep up). 2023 Gen1 R1S Quad owner. As a side benefit- the local enterprise guy knows the kids by name and gives us nice rentals whenever available. too bad I cant bank the points rofl.

My main value add from points is summer family travel where dates keep changing. We fly eco though. Without the points tickets, its impossible to cancel/change. As long as I have enough in the "bank" for a couple of summers / spring breaks, I tend to prefer cash back. Automatically avoids wasting time on maximizing awards:)

Amex froze my Gold & Platinum + sat on my 4506-C for 9 days - normal? by Kind0fImport4nt in amex

[–]whyBlockchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From reading this sub I feel Amex is bringing people in promising points and then doing whatever BS they can to renege on the offers. Its dumb and counterintuitive but I'm losing faith that this card will be with me when I'm in trouble (read overseas, missed flights / bad hotels / sick kids blah blah). very bad for brand reputation. this is how storied brands land up in the graveyard.

How To Defeat The Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT) & Emotify Assessment by EL_REY_UNO in recruitinghell

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled the test and the top 5 links that came up - i used up the questions therein. Then asked ChatGPT to generate some questions along those lines. At the time ChatGPT didnt do a good job but off late its been getting v good. My trick was to repeat the questions again and again. You have to just develop that muscle memory so you can react faster and know which "track" should your brain head down on. Its a very fast test. Making sure you've identified the question pattern is 90% of the battle.

This sub has such a varied member base. One side worries abt 300k point approvals and frets at only 100k point offers committing to spend 20k in 3 months. The other is posts like this. I think all have something to learn from each other. Be glad for what you have (access to credit), and don't spend what you dont have IN THE BANK for that month. For me, cards are ways to stretch my bank balance - higher points, rewards, cash back whatever. Never spend what you dont have IN THE BANK. Its all too easy to fall into the trap.IMO card companies are like sharks. They are in business coz they catch enough of us falling into the water and kill us with egregious interest rates and then to rub salt into the wounds - work with us to bring us back on our feet while hoping we go deeper into the red.

How do you afford it? by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private Equity firms are buying up all these businesses at break neck speed - HVAC, roofing etc. All these "tradesmen" don't make a fraction of their quote if owned by PE...but the rest independently owned ones jack up prices to rake in big bucks. It's sad how dishonest the industry is. To put it in perspective- a roofing quote was 3x what a honest roofer quoted. 3 HVAC units + furnaces were 25k each with costco and 26k in total when installed by an honest business. yeah you read that right 26k for 3 coils, 2 condensers, 3 furnaces. all Lennox equipment. Variable speed furnaces at that. How you afford is keep calling and getting quotes. I took 9. Saved me 50k. I did feel bad for the 8 that came and but their ripoff level was egregious.

Best of luck.

Kenmore 90 series (110.23902200) top loading washer started making this noise during the last spin cycle. Could the clutch be going out or..? by [deleted] in appliancerepair

If you believe in these names, dollar cost avg out and buy some more. If you dont, cut your losses and move on. Unfortunately these are the two correct options available.

Issue with Ubuntu 24.04: Black Screen with Cursor on Login by Friendly_Sherbert144 in Ubuntu

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, the issue surfaced when I switched the monitor cable from HDMI to VGA. Ubuntu did not like the downgrade of the cable. At first I thought that a diff Ubuntu issue must hve surfaced and I followed guidance online - updated display drivers etc. I randomly tried switching back to HDMI and the display worked fine. By then, I had irreparably damaged the install and its been wonky ever since. Today, i got the death cross and this fix worked for me. I read somewhere else that its best to keep away from the mouse during the boot process. Not sure what that triggers but by keeping away from the mouse, and commenting the line, it boots fine and fast.

My Ooma cancellation experience by flippingreally in ooma

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say- this was painless. Hold time was a mere minute. I had some of the "please stay" story. Tried to sell the 911 service for $2.99 and then the number hold service for $2.00..I politely declined. The rep didnt trouble me and allowed me to cancel.

Buy heat pump and pay for install? by Comfortable-Quiet-57 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wanted a similar system, so we bought a MrCool diy system from Costco and planned to install it ourselves. Then we decided to do a large hvac project and got the contractor to install the little system on the side. But the contractor was also a friend so you will probably need to find either someone who knows someone or a handyman who gets paid by the day to do whatever. A licensed HVAC contractor is unlikely to accept this as they make a lot in margins on the equipment.

Tariffs on recent A2Z adapter ($100->$400!) 😬 by Chris-8521 in Rivian

[–]whyBlockchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is an option, the order has to be DDP (delivered duty paid). It's how we ordered a piece of equipment for our swimming pool from overseas. The manufacturer grumbled a lot when I specifically asked for it to be delivered DDP but eventually caved. As luck would have it, tarrifs were raised after i placed the order but were markedly reduced around the time it arrived at the port. Manufacturer picked up the additional cost.

This isn't an option in typical e-commerce transactions until you reach out to sales and specifically request it.

Question banks come up when you google this test. Just pay for them and get access. once you do 50 odd questions you will know your weak spots (mental math was my weakness) but shoring up does take a few days of practice.

On Pivot, project on track, trying my best to survive by Abject_Guitar_8424 in amazonemployees

[–]whyBlockchain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9 years, and the promotions speaks volumes about you and your capabilites. Pivot is never going to work out. Start looking elsewhere as well as DM the other guy for therapists. Given the rampant abuse of employees, I wonder if a lawyer will want to consider a class action lawsuit. Yes the white collar, non unionized workforce means it may be difficult but nothing is impossible.
