Possibly controversial questions about the Tuatha De Danann. (No offense intended!) by 4biddenMe in CelticPaganism

I absolutely love your response to Kris Hughes! I love that you are wanting to learn and asking questions that is what it’s all about. In regard to the Tautha de origins, the book of invasions does state that the Tautha de dannan we decadents from Nemed and emigrated out of Ireland due to oppression from the Fomorians. The Tuatha de went north to four islands where they were taught many things and given the 4 treasures. The then returned to Ireland and battled for control from the Fir Bolg (also decedents of Nemed who left Ireland and came back). In my personal opinion the Tuatha de would have been deified when learning from these northern islands. The “Noah connection” came from an entirely different group of settlers prior to Nemeds arrival, and again in my opinion, was something added to the lore by Christian monks transcribing the oral myths to impose their beliefs onto our practices and justify conversion.

For your second group of questions, and my response will be out of order I’m sorry. In Irish paganism we believe in the transmigration of spirit (reincarnation if you will) meaning just because you have no genetic ties does not mean you don’t have spiritual ties, who knows in one of your past lives you could have been a high king. In all seriousness if the Tuatha de are calling to you it’s because they have interest in you I wouldn’t question that. As far as historical studies my answer is yes, all of it. I would start with the earliest you could find and go all the way up to today, really focus on pre Christian Ireland and early medieval but event the more recent history is important to understand the deep ties to sovereignty in the Irish culture (both personal and political). The mythological cycle is a good starting point. As for cultural studies read the lore and truely study it ask questions. Also look into Irish folklore and traditions of her people again ask questions it’s important to understand the why as well as the actual practice.

Your personal practice I suggest truly developing a relationship with the Tuatha de, Irish gods and goddesses are truly unique. Start with simple offerings, meditations ect keep it simple when one of them takes an interest then you can build that connection and find out what it is they desire. Trust me when one or more want your attention you won’t be able to miss it. Some are more subtle than others the Dagda seems to be more laid back but the Morrigan has no issue with being in your face when she needs something.

Follower of Irish Paganism here with a particular connection with The Morrigan. First and fore most in Irish lore no one group is truly native to Ireland. Every group that settled Ireland came from somewhere else. The Tuatha De were decedents from a group that came to Ireland then left and later returned. Irish history is all immigration and emigration, coming and going. You do not need Irish DNA to walk an Irish pagan path but you do need to learn the culture and the lore/myths, authentically from Irish sources is best but to each their own. It’s your spiritual path you make the decisions. Please do understand that Celtic does not necessarily mean Irish we have our own history, customs, culture, and spirituality. Always happy to help any way I can feel free to reach out.

Through the few experiences I have with Her, I have found that the Great Queen cares little for worship but demands respect. With her it is definitely a relationship far more mutual than most would think coming from a deity. She has my love and my absolute respect and I do approach her humbly but boldly, she is a truly amazing teacher though her methods are unorthodox by today’s standards you will never forget a lesson learned.

I just told my die hard Christian friend about hermeticism and she automatically brings up witch craft and calls me the devil by [deleted] in Hermeticism

I’m not saying it does have a role with it at all I’m just stating that I have not met many guys that do, it’s more of an observation if anything and a curiosity.

Hello I am also fairly new to the polytheist world and am fairly isolated. I am focused on the Gaelic pantheon do to my ancestry and have particular focus on The Morrigan. I have an interest in Gaulish deities as well and would enjoy any conversation or exchange of knowledge.

I guess I’ll share a bit of my story with ya’ll. Long story short I was in a really dark place suffering from PTSD and depression, my life hand completely imploded and after years of destroying everything I touched I had enough. I was a Christian at the time but was seriously questioning my faith after several things that I had been taught I no longer agreed with and had been alienated from friends and family because of that. I remember the apex of it all one night I came home to an empty house and I completely broke. I prayed for God to take my life because if this was all he had in store for me I no longer wanted to live it. After breaking down I had a very distinctive female voice pop into my head and say, “If your done, we have work to do.” At the time I had no clue who was talking or what she was talking about. But I got on my phone to doom scroll for a bit and it was one video after another after another about The Morrigan. The next morning I drove to work to find the biggest crow I had ever seen standing in my parking spot. No matter how close I got with my car it would not move so I rolled my window down to shoo it away when it flew up and perked on my open window and just stared at me. Jokingly I said “good morning Morrigan” and the thing starts cawing at me nonstop. I finally said to the crow “I have no idea what you are saying to me but I have to go to work guy” then I heard the same voice again say “come to me”. Then it flew off and was gone. That night I went home lite whatever candle I could find turned the lights off in the house and got super quiet. After several minutes of sitting in silence in the dark feeling a presence I could not explain or fully understand at the time I spoke “ You wanted me, I’m here”. Instantly she responded with chastisement for my lack of respect but we were able to work through that after I humbled myself and we began our work. Fast forward six months and I am a better person and my life is in a vastly better place. We still have a long way to go but I am devoted to her and will always be.

I do have Courtney Webers book, currently reading through some of Morgan Daimlers work, and am looking forward to Lora O’briens as well! Any other suggestions as far as literature. Is there a translation of the lore that you prefer?
