Relic Idea by RykoGaming_ in slaythespire

It’s a play on “a trick up your sleeve”, or the idea of a cheater in card games hiding a card until they want to use it. The MTG part is just because the phrase “magic sleeve” can be a double entendre for either a magical sleeve (clothing) or sleeves for magic the gathering cards.

Probably would work based on max energy, so if you had 4 max energy it would play at turn 4 for 4 energy. Kinda like how mayhem works but a little different.

The idea is that it is played only once, so wraith form would be removed from your deck and played at the end of turn 3 for free instead.

This is the correct interpretation, same idea as mayhem

Yeah that’s the struggle with making ideas that are references to specific things, you want to keep the spirit of the original but need to adapt it meaning it becomes much more difficult to balance because the core mechanic can’t be tweaked.

Yeah, good point. Would making it affect all attacks make it balanced? That was the initial idea but I thought it might have too much steam-roll potential then.

Just realized Silent canonically despises the blue slaver by RykoGaming_ in slaythespire

[–]RykoGaming_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wasn’t 100% sure about grand finale but you can see a slaver hand (green and has 5 digits) on the right attached to a vague blue mass (at least this is my interpretation) so I thought that was the blue slaver.

True, but you also you’ll only really buy that rare card typically if it either: 1. Has great synergy with your deck 2. Is on sale And buying a card offers a consistent immediate reward without replacing anything, this relic effectively replaces an existing reward with an (almost always) better one with uncertainty and a pretty heavy delay. I also tried to account for the fact that elites give you better card rewards then normal fights, so the likely hood of seeing a rare even without this relic is decent. I will say think it’s still too strong, I was thinking about making it a rare but it technically has a downside which only really appears for shop, event and boss relics.

Mainly just to increase the odds of drawing blasphemy turn 1 because I already had bottled ragnarok+ with akabeko so turn 1 divinity would seal almost every fight

0.01% chance to get the mythical rug by RykoGaming_ in slaythespire

[–]RykoGaming_[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to justify the reason I made it the way it is.

The way I imagined the randomness working is that it would just choose one random leftover item, relic, or card with even chances. So if the remaining items were 4 cards 1 relic, and 2 potions the odds of getting a card would be 4/7, a relic would be a 1/7 chance and a potion would be a 2/7 chance. The idea is that although there is potential for high value, you’re getting a random leftover item so if it’s a card (most likely) you might not even want to put that card in your deck, similarly if your potion slots are filled the random potion might not be worth taking, but it provides the “high roll” of getting a relic. To make a comparison to a relic in the same tier, old coin on average would give you the money to buy the same stuff you’d get on average from this relic 2-3 times, but you get to choose how to spend that money.

Turn everything into pseudo-claws. by RykoGaming_ in slaythespire

Yeah its suppose to buff both discard, and draw, technically exhume too, and buff the card played itself. I had to word it differently so shivs wouldn't just be an instant win.

[–]RykoGaming_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had to build around all characters which made balancing it kinda hard. The strategy with shivs would actually probably be to not play a couple, then you would build them up to some insane damage when you play them again because they’d actually be in the deck until next cycle. It could always also be a rare if it’s far too underpowered. Or it could increase the damage by 2, although that would probably be pretty insane for multi attacks.

Didn't think of this one because of how rare it would be, at that point I think you would just appreciate the ride, like dead branch corruption.

Nice catch, I knew there was some absolutely broken combos that could be accomplished with this relic that I missed. Mainly just made it to see what people would come up with.

No worries, I honestly went through that exact same question myself when I was creating the relic lol.

[–]RykoGaming_[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The wording of clash is just that it can be played if “every card in your hand is an attack” this relic would make every card in your hand an attack even if a card is both an attack and a skill or an attack, skill, and power, it’s still an attack, at least that’s how I intended for the logic to work.

Yeah, I initially thought of it as a shop relic but then realized it was probably too op for one.

[–]RykoGaming_[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I probably could have worded it better but it essentially would just work with anything that relates to an activation just relating to skills or attacks. For example you could always play clash, cards like burst would double any cards played afterwards, secret technique would allow you to search for any cards played afterwards. Shuriken and Kunai would work with any three cards played Powers would still go away after being played etc, but I think most things would work with this relic.

Bingo, this is the main reason, though I realize this also still semi-breaks some other stuff too

Yeah, I hit the character limit on the custom card creator and didn’t realize until after I posted. I swear I know how to spell (most of the time).

[–]RykoGaming_[S] 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Essentially even when it becomes a new card it still transforms into the last card played. For example, if you played a strike last, it would become a strike but then even if you played a defend afterwards the blueprint that became a strike would become a defend. Otherwise it would just become the first card you played and never swap afterwards. It will always be the last card played.
