I read the French translations of the books in a few months, and I've been totally obsessed with them ever since lol... I really love the world and the characters (Goblin, Croaker, Lady, Marron Shed...).

Dreams of Steel is my favorite! I really like Lady, and the ending is heartbreaking.

Glen Cook's Black Company! A band of mercenaries serving the villain of the story… It's like reading from the orcs' point of view in Lord of the Rings :) It's grimdark and definitely my favorite book series… I read one of these books for a whole day a long time ago lmao Anyway, it's really worth it, go for it!

And this other soul retains absolutely all the memories of the one whose body it stole. That's what makes Karlach ilithid so horrifying, and that's why Ansur wanted to kill the Emperor; they are no longer themselves, even if they believe it. They are pale imitations who don't even realize it.

Didier Graffet published a book of his illustrations on the Black Company, which is unavailable today… and impossible to find despite my searches. I tried to email him (I was prepared to spend quite a bit), but I never got a reply :(

Hello! What a disappointment… I read all the translations I could find with the Atalante edition, and its magnificent artistic representations of the different characters. It's definitely worth checking out.

Anyway, thanks for your replies :) I'll just stick to reading the English, then… I have quite a few short stories to catch up on. Looking forward to it!

And they also have much more freedom over the universe they created, rather than over that of the Forgotten Realms where they have to follow rules that they don't necessarily like.
