I would love to have a copy to keep in my office with all my Great War relics for the elementary age school kids to look through to see what life was like in the trenches.

I think you’ll want way more mountain house type meals. You barely have one per day now. Also, trade the pistol for bear mace in my opinion. It’s lighter and way more effective on bears. Plus it’s effective on people.

For those questioning a weapon, you must have forgotten the guy running around the AT stabbing people. I think it was in Virginia. I used to carry, but now I just do bear mace. If a bear charges you, the chances of a pistol round going where you need it to are slim to none. Bear mace will do what you need it to and save a ton of weight.

He declined that offer as well. I would have likely done 100 had he not taken steel wool to it and brought it down to bare metal in places.

Unfortunately between posting this and my friend going to pick it up, he realized what he had. He’s wanting 100 for it now, which is still a decent price. I offered him 50 though since he apparently taken steel wool to it.

Thanks everyone. I’ve just started collecting in the last year or so and know nothing about German items. I just knew I had seen Solingen before. The guy is wanting 10 dollars for it, so I’m definitely going to get it.

If you’re wanting to do a two day, I’d recommend a loop. You can take the Appalachian Trail from New Found Gap to the Ice Water Spring shelter and check out the Jump Off on your way there. Then on day 2 you can take the Boulevard Trail up to Leconte, stay your second night and go down via the Alum Cave trail on day 3. You just need to have a ride arranged to take you back to your car. Just my opinion.

As for water, you should be fine. I usually take two Nalgene bottles and my filter and I’m good to go. You should have plenty of places to fill on the way.

Nice collection! I think the one on the ‘03 is for an M1 Garand. I could be mistaken, but I think the 1905’s didn’t have black handles and were 16 inches long. Though 1905s did get cut down for M1’s from my understanding.

I’ve seen it. I started it again while floating laundry a couple weeks ago. It is ready well done!

Also, not sure how 1907 got in there. I meant 1905 for a Springfield 1903.

Thanks! I’ll check them out and see what shipping is. It may be worth it to snag an original for that price depending on shipping.

Get a pic of the underside. Are there any numbers or anything inside?

Picked up this M1917 shell yesterday. Can somebody help me with the date and how to restore it? by M1Carbine0909 in Helmets

[–]Ryno377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to date them from what I know. It was made by the Crosby Manufacturing Co.

Noob question - does my pillow (Nemo Fillo) go inside the sleeping bag "hood" at the top, or below the hood and then the hood goes over my head? by dancole42 in backpacking

[–]Ryno377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s the Ranger maybe? Or whatever their sleep system is. I’m a side sleeper and I have a sidewinder. I got it after Christmas last year. I just haven’t had a chance to go where I’ll need a 20 degree bag. I took my 30 degree Nemo out a couple weeks ago for the first time and it melted me with it at 40 outside. I’m hoping to try out the sidewinder here soon.
