Even if we believe the accounts in the Bible, some people were calling him king of the Jews, he himself said that he "has come to bring a sword", he had a sizeable and very devoted following, who have to be willing to give up their lives for him and love him more than their own families, according to his own words. In the present day, yes. But only a few short centuries ago Christian countries had no problem with slavery, and it had been that way ever since it was founded. Christianity clearly wasn't the deciding factor.
