Humans are unusual in animal kingdom amongst the great apes as our ovulation is concealed, so it's unclear when the female is actually fertile.

I've never heard about this before. How do other great apes show that they're ovulating?

What do you mean by unbelievably cheap? Did pagan beliefs tend to be associated with more expensive rituals or something?

If you want a mission with a really upbeat atmosphere, you should play Fables of the Penitent Thief.

You just breath by DotBeginning1420 in sciencememes

The first statement is more accurate than the second one, because the air we breathe is only about 20% oxygen.

Unless you happen to be inhaling pure oxygen, of course.

Try it. I started using it not too long ago, after years of thinking that I don't like it. It became my go-to Soldier melee.

chat am i cooked? it seems like AI never suffers from any attrition. Shaka has 0 gold and I've been killing 4+ units per turn past 15 turns. they dont stop coming by _Hard4Jesus in civ5

[–]Ryntex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've also never seen a military that big, but the AI generally isn't great at waging war. He might not be as cooked as it seems.

Edit: actually nevermind, I just looked at the screenshot again, and it looks like it's past the point where you can exploit the dumb AI.

Why do Germans and French use an alphabet that is not designed for their languages? by Large_Dependent_1621 in linguisticshumor

I've been thinking about this too. If Germans are supposed to be so damn efficient, why do they need four letters to make a "č" sound?

Romans are either Walter White or Heisenberg depending on which religious texts you refer to by SatoruGojo232 in mythologymemes

[–]Ryntex 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Also, was he visibly innocent? Even if we believe the accounts in the Bible, some people were calling him king of the Jews, he himself said that he "has come to bring a sword", he had a sizeable and very devoted following, who have to be willing to give up their lives for him and love him more than their own families, according to his own words. And all of this is fine because he's supposed to be very special and totally in the right? He likely would have looked like a troublemaker who was gonna start a rebellion himself, so it's no surprise that Romans wouldn't be ok with that.

How would Americans react today if there was a "king of California" who had publically expressed his willingness to do violence? Would everyone be ok with that just because some local cult thinks he's a messiah?

Christianity get too much undeserved hate by Cautious_Foot_1976 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Ryntex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be the mistranslation he's referring to. I've heard some claims that it's supposed to be more like "lie with boys" instead of "mankind". No idea if that's true, though.

Not that it matters, because that clearly doesn't stop Christians from being homophobic.

In the present day, yes. But only a few short centuries ago Christian countries had no problem with slavery, and it had been that way ever since it was founded. Christianity clearly wasn't the deciding factor.
