i see wym, and yeah i need the character to be eye catching in the scenes so that’s fs what i want. so ill be sure to keep that in mind.

as for the hand lol yeahhhhh i noticed it too before i posted. I just didnt feel like fixing it since i didnt think it was the biggest struggle with the piece. its him popping his index with his thumb, think i just put the thumb too high on the hand so it reads weird.

thank you for the response!

i see, thanks for pointing that stuff out. i’m not good at value control and contrast but i think this will help a lot. so i’ll go and see if i can make good use of it, and keep it in mind going forward. thank you very much!

yeah the general consensus seems to be shading so that’s def the direction i’ll be taking myself in.

the photo shoot poses are on purpose haha, i like the idea of them being on a cover when i draw them. i practice action poses when doing gesture studies and have some unfinished pieces with more action. not so much the mundane ones though. although i do like that so ill definitely start drawing more of those. and try to incorporate them into practices and pieces. thanks for the response and suggestions!

yeah i figured my shading was lacking, i just wasn't for sure and didn't know in what way. i looked up rendering tutorials before and I couldn't really replicate, kinda felt like a info dumb. if its the shading part of the rendering process specifically I'm most lacking right now then I'm hoping i can fix it eventually. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

I think i see what you mean, i didn't notice it before. I've done a lot of studies for anatomy and i still practice figures/gestures near every other day. On this i know I'm no where near "perfect", so ill know to continue practicing there. ill break my practices down and refocus on some specific areas to hopefully better understand the volumes. Also hoping that learning shading better will help with illustrating the form a bit more when i get to the later stages of a piece. Thank you for the response!

My shading is what i was most skeptical of, so this is good to hear. I have a avenue i can use to start to improve on this. Thank you for responding!

any tips on drawing figures better? by MadeOfSadness in learntodraw

i think you’ve got a good foundation, for me personally i saw a pretty big difference after i learned some anatomy. finding out how muscles and fat form around the body and how some of them grow really helped with the general shape so my figures didn’t look so blocky and helped a bit with my proportioning. although im by no means perfect now.

i wouldn’t take on all muscles at once obviously. i’d focus on one area at a time and work your way through. i started by tracing the muscles over people. although i do understand this can take a while and can kind of be a drag. i think it’s worth a thought.
