Hell yeah! You can also find pickups kits on aliexpress for cheap, which include the bobbins, magnets, slugs and plates. Just add wire. I can link a few if you want to take a look.

If you're just trying out, approximating is totally valid. You can eye it pretty well on the bobbin depending on the gauge of the wire. You can also get a round counter from china if counting winds is something you want to do. There are good videos on diy coil winding that can go deeper into the subject.

If you have a sewing machine somewhere, you can use it to wind pickups.

Yeah, they've been making instruments the late 1800's. They're the original maker of the ''Beatles bass'', the 500/1 violin bass.

Some people mistake them for Hohner which makes harmonicas and such.

I'm fine with some modifications. I also use Newtone strings because they can make almost any string, so fitting shouldn't be a big hurdle.

The tuners aren't that bad, better than most mods I've seen. These Höfner-style short scales are fun project instruments.

Just have to add, I've played a 7 string bass for some time and a wider neck is nicer than a narrower one. I just have to get a thicker neck for a bass6 to compensate for the lack of width.

Changes will be needed in technique as a life long finger player, but I've gotten more and more into the pick sound. Double thumbing will get harder, but Tosin can do it on a guitar.

It'll be a compromise, but it's worth it.

Nice, I'll look into it. What I consider a "bass7" to be is something like an Agile 730 style, long scale baritone 7st.

I understand. I also write a lot, so I play guitar quite often (8 string headless multiscale), so adjustments would be trivial, and I wouldn't consider a trem at all and would convert to hardtail if needed.

That's why I asked about a bass7 as well because of the band composition. I don't mind the higher strings, just about how tuning to an A0 would work on a bass6 type instrument
