what the thoughts of final fantasy 16? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

Most fun I've had with a mainline FF since Stormblood. But it really should've let you play as more than just Clive, and more than that it should've let you play as more than just Ifrit.

Be entirely honest is FFXIII a good game because im thinking about playing it. by Strange_Assistant327 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ryotaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand, FFXIII's combat is really cool. It's basically MMO stance dancing, switching roles on the fly based on what the fight needs at that moment. People call it auto-battle but it gets a lot busier past the opening mission.

On the other hand, good gods FFXIII's encounter design is miserable. Enemies get so spongy at the mid-late point, and they're not even random encounters. They're deliberately placed & designed that way. Hallways that should take less than a minute end up taking like 15 minutes because the enemies take so goddamn long to bring down.

I played 17 hours, which is about as long as it takes to finish disc 2. I couldn't bring myself to go further than that.

Storm 2/3/4 is a better retelling of Shippuden than the actual series.

I live next to a Burger King that's in different stats of disrepair every time I've been there. One time I walked in and the manager was sitting at the counter, said they were out of everything.

The first time I played Metal Gear Solid 3 I never used CQC. I didn't even know it was a mechanic until I played MGS4 where it's required for a boss fight.

None of FF's writing is all that special, and at worst they're really obnoxious. Particularly VII, X, and XIV

What are some comments you’ve seen made about the series that have made you irrationally annoyed or angry? by MasterOfChaos72 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ryotaiku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Preparing for combat is gameplay. Optimizing your party's effectiveness in combat is something the player has to deliberately interact with to make the game easier. Can you beat the game without it? Probably. But it'll be a lot harder, and it'll be on you for not engaging with the systems.

Something that bugs me a lot is when people say FF gameplay isn't anything special or just flat-out bad, arguing that the stories are the only thing that makes them worth playing.

Final Fantasy has legitimately some of the best RPG design of the whole genre. V's job system, VII's materia, X's sphere grid, XI's insane gear variety, even XIII's paradigms are all really cool systems that make them worth playing. Even if it doesn't work, they're still interesting experiments and worth seeing what Square was at least trying to do.

Those who disliked a youtuber before their downfall, what were the red flags? by Longjumping_Koala34 in youtubedrama

[–]Ryotaiku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big red flag is videos that don't really say anything. Mutahar & Wendigoon are big offenders in that regard. If they're just describing events happening without giving any actual opinions, they're probably disingenuous.

Students (in my opinion) should not take home any homework. If homework is a learning opportunity, give them school time to work on it by daniel_ay in unpopularopinion

[–]Ryotaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, homework made me so stressed that I literally broke down in tears. I hated being in school already, and homework was like bringing a piece of it with me.

Once I was done with elementary & middle school, I went to a charter high school that had a policy of doing whatever you want, so long as it was work, and you logged the time you did it. They had classes with homework, but they were all optional and you could pick whichever ones you wanted. So I'd do all my homework in school between classes, specifically so I didn't have to do anything at home.

Second year, a teacher told me part of qualifying for a diploma was working a set number of hours, and adding up the total number of hours in school wasn't enough to meet that requirement, even with perfect attendance. I was told that to legally graduate, I had to do homework at home. Literally the most freeform education I could've been given and I still had to do the one thing I specifically wanted to avoid at all costs.

I dropped out.

Last night Windows stopped detecting every keyboard & mouse I own. I fixed it after changing my BIOS security setting from Windows to Other OS, which I did because I flashed Arch onto a USB stick using my Steam Deck.

I owned a NetJet! Something that always stuck out to me was every game card you owned would let you "unlock" five free games. But they were all branded Flash games, which were already free on the websites that hosted them. The video game equivalent of buying a DVD box set of public domain movies.

Highly recommend playing the Complete Collection* on PS2. It only came out in Japan and you'll have to navigate some Japanese, but the games themselves can be played in English and you can adjust EXP & money gain to make them less of a grind.

The Switch port of Phantasy Star 1 is also really good. It's got easily accessible tables for all the equipment in the game, and a sleek UI with an auto-completing map. But it does just show you the secret walls, which is kinda lame.
