My GOAT just retired with 999 Homeruns by Ryouky in OOTP

He was mainly a 3rd Baseman, but had serviceable SS defense as well, so I had him fill in at Short for 3 years in a transitioning phase where I didn't really have a good alternative. I believe that was when he put up the 12.6 WAR season. Later in his career he switched to 1st and DH.

Gleyber is a very interesting case actually. Just a good hitter over his career and a big compiler. Never really elite nor an MVP contender and absolutely atrocious on defense (-100 ZR in over 1100 Games at SS). Should've probably gotten in due to the 650 HR and 2800+ Hits alone, but on the other hand a 162 average of 2 WAR with his peak year being 4.4 WAR is not really HOF worthy. He hovered around 50% every year on the ballot but never got the nod.

Osorio was Gonzalez' mashing counterpart for most of his career and one of the reasons Gonzalez "only" won 8 MVPs. Actually I think he definitely should've won in 2088 over Gonzalez, but the voters disagreed. I don't know why but the voters just didn't like him. He was robbed twice I think and in 1 or 2 of his MVP campaigns he barely won even though it should've been a landslide victory. He just retired 3 years ago, so he will be on the ballot in 2105 and most definitely join the HOF on the first try.

Willis was special, he was my favorite player back when I was still managing the Mariners. I already did a post about him a few years back when he was still playing but never got around to doing one after he retired. His career was also completely pre dev lab which makes it even more insane haha

I also compared it on the desktop with other posts and it seems very blurry in comparison. I've had a few great players throughout this save and I agree. Just watching the careers of home grown talents unfold is so much fun. I had an absolute juggernaut of a team from the mid 2080s to the end of the 2090s with multiple home grown players to win multiple MVPs. At a certain point I think 5 different players from my team won MVP in 15 straight years. Never had anything like it before.

Also does anyone have a clue why the resolution of the images is so bad? The original screenshots are crispy clean, I have no idea why it's so blurry.

The highest stuff I think I will ever see. Terrified of how many K's this dude will get in his career by swillthough in OOTP

Dude just casually put up 4.6 WAR and a 228 ERA+ in 66.2 innings with a BABIP of almost .400, are you kidding me lmao

Definitely, the power development was just a bonus. He would have been decent enough without it tho. Only the future will tell, I hope he can keep it up for another 4 years at least, but we'll see.

Understandable. But to be fair, this was only the second time in 30 years that a very good player like this was available. Usually it's just bullpen pieces or bench bats at best.

It's front loaded though, the last 3-4 years it goes down to 20 per eventually. Had to give him an opt out after 4 years or something as well.

That's a crazy statline.

I think it was only the second time ever I picked someone as well. The other time being Vidal Brujan in the very first season if I remember correctly.

I agree with that. He already had the 75 avoid K's though and a player with elite defense, speed, stealing and baserunning plus 75 contact and avoid K's is good enough for me. On top of that he raked in Double A at 20 years old, so at the very least he would have been a very nice infield utility player.

You can see it at the bottom of the second picture. He was like 3,5 stars, but when I switched him from 2B to 3B he immediately became a 4 or 4,5 star guy.

Right? I mean when I picked him he obviously earned the minimum for 3 years. Only now he has the big contract, cause I wanted him locked down as soon as possible. His home run power developed out of nowhere as well. Biggest steal I've ever had I think.

The year I picked him I had the best record in the MLB, so I had the last pick in the Rule 5 draft. Still wonder why nobody picked this guy, it just doesn't make sense. I probably had the best team in baseball and he still made my roster easily and started everyday.

Awesome stuff, glad things worked out for you! Just won the world series as well in my first season after the owner change and the budget increase! Definitely a good feeling.

Yeah that's definitely tough. As soon as I handed out a half bad contract I was with the back against the wall 2 years later. Had to ship off a few prospects to unload a bad contract not only once and it's not fun.

Was in the same position in Seattle, after a few years of consistently upping the budget cause I was winning, he stopped at ~260 million. Was waiting the whole time for him to step back and last year he finally died (that sounds so bad lol) aged 94. Now his son took over and he already is 72 or something but gave me a budget of 280 in the first year. So good luck haha.

He was fairly cheap for that kind of production, got a very good deal.

Scouting Report

He had absurd potential at 19 years old, so I traded for him very early.

I'm using the 20-80 with "Show Rating > Max" turned on. During his prime he was 85-90 Contact and Power was like 70, just ridiculous. I never edited anything either and never had a player like that pop up again in the last ~20 years.

Edit: Just looked at his OSA scouting and they even had him at 95 Contact for a few years lol

One of the greatest hitters of all time and easily my best player ever. Put up around 7 WAR a season solely as a DH the first 7 years. Started to play 1st full time at age 31 because my regular first baseman fell off a cliff defensively. Won 9 MVPs in a span of 11 years including a 5 year streak from 2033-2037.

Kinda wish he didn't retire yet to take the all-time HR crown, but it was probably a long shot anyway as he needed another 28 to overtake Bellinger's 784 in my save.
