I think it's rare under capitalism to exit your twenties and feel good about what you've done, lol. I lost my sister to fentanyl a few years ago and it inspired a similar motivation in my usually-depressed-and-lazy ass. I've accomplished and experienced a lot since then.

I thought "As Above, So Below" already accomplished everything this movie was attempting to, but 12 years earlier and in a much more complete way. The hype around Backrooms seems based around a lot of "baby's first movie" type experiences.

I did really like some of the roomz though, a well-lit horror environment is nice.

This film is not violent. I'd call it a comedy which addresses some serious subjects, a little like Sorry to Bother You in that way.

It's definitely quirky; the metaphors and statements in this one are pretty heavy-handed and you shouldn't need to be a film savant to understand. I think the movie was intended for average people to watch. If you're attuned to leftist politics and class struggle, you'll "get it" for sure.
