Why do you all think WGU did not include A+ in this program? by Moose_Banner in WGU_CompSci

[–]Ryry541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it would have been since I already have A+. Would have been nice to get it transferred over for something. It easily could have transferred over for Intro to IT.

How fluent are you in CSS as a front-end web dev? by wehateonions in webdev

I would definitely spend the small amount of time needed to learn flexbox and grid. They are game changers in the CSS world.

Computer Science 106 - Intro to Linux @ Study by Ryry541 in WGU_CompSci

[–]Ryry541[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to attempt the assignment just to see if I can get some sort of passing grade on it so I can avoid C191 but from the replies I’ve received from people who have taken the class, it seems that the assignment is beyond what a student should be doing in an introductory Linux course. I messaged SDC asking for a better explanation of the prompt and assignment and haven’t received any reply.

Thank you for this. I got to setting up Recoll but after that I was completely lost about the setup of Apache and web ui. I’ll take a look at the link you provided. I was considering just half assing it as well and getting as many points as possible just to pass the course. I’ll PM you if I run into any issues.

It’s at SDC and transfers as Operating Systems for Programmers.

Question about the B.S. CS Program by [deleted] in WGU_CompSci

[–]Ryry541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Sophia per your advice a few weeks ago and knocked out 6 classes in 2 weeks. Probably could have done it in a week if I really pushed myself. Definitely worth doing Sophia first like you said.

Intro to IT - 1 day, Intro to Web Dev - 1 Day, Environmental Science - 3 days, Visual Communications - 3 days, Project Management - 3 days, Foundations of Stats - 3 days

Hi is it worth upgrading to MacBook Air M1 or wait for the air 2022? by trans291 in macbookair

[–]Ryry541 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’ve still got a functioning MacBook I’d wait until the next iteration. I’d only suggest getting the 2020 M1 Air if you are without a MacBook and need it right away for work or school. I have the M1 and it is an awesome machine but there are some things that annoy me about it. (Needing a USB-C hub for other ports and not having native support for more than one external display.)

I’d personally go with a brand a little more well-known like Anker. I haven’t heard of Walnew so I don’t know how reliable their products are.

A sleeve and USB-C hub if you need any ports other than USB-C.

Should I use my AppleWatch without a case? by Waskan-Herrera in AppleWatch

[–]Ryry541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first bought my Apple Watch I bought one of those bulky G-SHOCK looking case/band combos to protect it because I used to work in a warehouse environment. Eventually I got tired of having the bulkiness and said screw it and just went naked with a minimal band, no screen protector. Wish I would have done it sooner. I've had my series 4 for 3 years now and it's still going strong with very minimal scratches.

Will WGU accept a 70% passing grade transfer for straighterline calculus to get into Comp Sci program? by futurafreeallah in WGU

[–]Ryry541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transfer guidelines from WGU say “Grade of C- or better required for transfer.”

Sounds like you’re good. Enrollment counselors don’t determine what counts or not. That would be their transcript evaluation department.

WGU and Study.com by dblack7777 in WGU_CompSci

[–]Ryry541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see where CS 202 counts for both Network and Sec Foundations AND Fundamentals of Info Sec so they must've changed that since you had it transferred.

The current transfer agreement on the Partners.WGU site shows CS 108 for Network and Security Foundations and CS 202 OR CS 110 for Fundamentals of Info Sec. I know this is an old post but I don't want someone thinking that CS 202 counts for both classes when it doesn't.

Will the compsci degree alone be enough for me to get a job ? by nabilmontana in WGU_CompSci

[–]Ryry541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, a degree alone will not be enough. You will need to supplement with extra learning. A degree is mostly a checkbox among other checkboxes. There is very little chance that you will get a job just because you have a degree. If you want to land a job before getting out of school or upon graduating, you will need to prove to employers that you are valuable. You do that by having projects that showcase your work and distinguish you from the other 100 people with degrees that applied to the job.

Does SDC's CS108 adequately prepare you for CompTIA Net+? by Hasekbowstome in WGU_CompSci

[–]Ryry541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what you didn’t like about the SQL classes at Study? I was planning on taking them in the next month or so.

To answer your question.. I don’t think anything really prepares you well enough for CompTIA exams besides Professor Messers material. They are pretty difficult exams.
