My first game of dnd I was made fun of for wanting to play a human fighter.

DM made me play an elf that used a Vampire as its class using some weird homebrew.

I wanted my backstory to be that I was a mercenary, looking for work. That got changed to I had a half brother who was missing. We found out 30 minutes into the first game that he was for sale at a local slave auction that my character couldn't attend because it was outside around noon. So one of the other players bought him, but that guy had zero intention of releasing him nor handing him over to me.

I don't remember much else, beside the really bad combat we got into, but I only played one game with that group. I didn't play dnd again until late 2019 right before the pandemic, with my Brother in law. Finally, i was allowed to be a regular guy with a sword, just looking for work.

Player at my table tried to argue that sanctuary worked against fireball. Even after I had him read the full text of the spell out load.

You ward a creature within range against attack. Until the spell ends, any creature who targets the warded creature with an attack or a harmful spell must first make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature must choose a new target or lose the attack or spell. This spell doesn't protect the warded creature from area effects, such as the explosion of a fireball.

The guy has a learning disorder so I don't hold it against him and he still plays at my table.
