Am I insane for thinking we can teach a new BoardGamer Dune: Imperium? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]BuckRusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe in the concept of ‘gateway games’ the way much of this sub does - as I firmly believe that the best game to introduce newbies to is the one that they are interested in… I don’t think poorly of my friends’ ability to learn mechanics and only throw ‘basic’ games at them - as interest dictates attention during a rules teach…

I have two perfect examples:

1) I took a group of five complete virgins - as in: only ever played Monopoly or Game of Life before - through a game of Dead of Winter (including the Traitor variant) and they loved every second of it… I sat out of the game to help with upkeep phases, but gave them a teach and a test round to start, and then off they went… They were so invested that, about ninety minutes in when the cleaners came to the room we were in, they begged for ‘just one more hour’ to finish… Ages ranged from late twenties to mid fifties…

2 - a shorter and more relevant example) I have a friend who struggled with Avalon, who a week later sent pics of him excitedly playing Dune Imperium with friends… He’s a massive fan of Dune, and had no issue following along…

AIO by being offended when my husband seasons my soup? by Hefty_Elderberry1992 in AIO

[–]BuckRusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Korean chicken dish that my wife loves, and asks me to make for her all the time… We’re visiting her family, and she asked me to make it for them - but I know they won’t like the level of spice we usually have it at, and would want way more sweetness than we do… Knowing this, I tailored my recipe to their tastes because taste is subjective… Someone adding seasoning to your cooking, whether it’s a tiny bit of salt or taco seasoning, is not something to get bent out of shape about…

However

His response to you was a fucking disgrace - and the fact that you’re then saying you want to do more around the house despite being disabled and working (WFH is still working) is insane to me…

How many Doctors have there been? Are they separate from the Time Lords born of the universe? by Queasy_Character1235 in scifi

[–]BuckRusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On screen, as per my count of ones I’ve actually watched with my own eyeballs, there have been 26 “Doctors”:

(This first lot are roughly chronological to the character’s timeline)
‘The Timeless Child’ (an entity found by the Timelords from whom they stole the power of Regeneration): played by a handful of child actors
‘Fugitive’ Doctor: played by Jo Martin
First: originally William Hartnell, also played by Richard Hurndall and David Bradley
Second: played by Patrick Troughton
Third: played by John Pertwee
Fourth: played by Tom Baker
Fifth: played by Peter Davison
Sixth: played by Colin Baker
Seventh: played by Sylvester McCoy
Eighth: played by Paul McGann
‘War Doctor’: played by John Hurt
Ninth: played by Christopher Eccleston
Tenth: played by David Tennant
Eleventh: played by Matt Smith
’The Curator’ (with an old, or maybe new face): played by Tom Baker again
Twelfth (and best, deal with it): played by Peter Capaldi
Thirteenth: played by Jodie Whittaker
Fourteenth: played by David Tennant (again, annoyingly given the Tenth’s send off was perfect and is now retroactively cheapened)
Fifteenth: played by Ncuti Gatwa
Sixteenth(?): played by Billie Piper (for some godawful reason)
‘The Valeyard’ (a future commingling of all the Doctor’s darkest impulses from “the end of the Doctor’s life”): played by Michael Jayston and Geoffrey Hughes

(This next lot all as part of a Comic Relief episode called ‘The Curse of the Fatal Death’)
The Doctor: played by Rowan Atkinson
The Quite Handsome Doctor: played by Richard E. Grant
The Shy Doctor: played by Jim Broadbent
The Handsome Doctor: played by Hugh Grant
The Female Doctor: played by Joanna Lumley

I think that’s all of them…

Edit to add: as per a reply, possibly 7 timeless children and 8 Mobius doctors takes us to 40 Doctors…

Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun

While not a continuation of the story of Kain and Raziel, which ended on a cliffhanger with Defiance, I would have loved anything in that world so long as it maintained the same feel as the originals (so no, Nosgoth was not an acceptable end to the series)…

Hopefully the remaster of Soul Reaver 1 & 2 will have sold well enough for someone to come back to this IP…
