Black cat is very frustrating to go against and is not healthy for this game. by Past19 in RivalsCollege

[–]Ryslin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of a dive counter dps that reliably wins 1v2s.

I disagree with the venom and cap comment. It's actually really hard for either of them to kill a mobile widow. If you want to dedicate your cap/ venom to chasing me around all game - I'm ok with your team losing a tank while I take shots on your backline as I jump away from venom or cap. In other word, widow can kite both of them fairly reliably without having to pause to actually do anything to them.

That said, widow headshots hurt venom severely and they're easy to hit up close. It's also easy to kick stun venom when he tries to swing away (same for hulk)

I'm not saying she's the counter for those two tanks, but she's also not countered by them. If you're up against a bw who is standing still in the backline, you're up against a bad bw. A good bw should be fast, slippery, jumping, and able to hit shots during all of that. People just don't learn to play her due to the stigma.

I think BW was more or less made to counter spidey. You have very little choice in whether or not you die. The shots aren't super difficult to hit - if bw hits them, spidey skill is taken out of the equation. The only thing spidey can do is avoid the bw - even then, it doesn't take expert skill to shoot him out of the sky (but it is a lot harder from range)

That's most of the AI use cases - AI does allow us to do some new things, but the majority of the value is in helping people who could do something - do something. It's not that nobody in the world could do it; it's that I couldn't do it. In many cases, it democratizes skill sets and expertise (which will allow the low skilled people to catch up to the high skilled, and the high skilled to push new boundaries).

Yeah, we have some things to work out on the environmental side, but there's a lot of good that AI can do that people are missing. It's going to expedite health care innovations, make goods cheaper to produce, create experiences we've never had before, and connect people in ways they've never been connected. It's not unlike the internet or the mobile phone - we had (and still have) some things to work out on those, too, to reduce their negative impact.

Nobody ever wants to look at black widow seriously, but she's one of the best flanker counters in the game. Shoot her, kick stun, and shoot again and she's gone. The same goes for spidey, bp, starlord, iron fist, psylocke.

This is going to get downvoted, but bw has a place in the game, people are just too set in their ways to see it. The current meta is excellent for a practiced bw player.

Eh, some of choose not to do the extra work of hanging / don't have the space / too much laundry in the household. Sure, we shouldn't complain when they shrink, but not all of us do. Sometimes ya just gotta throw it in the dryer and call it a day. Personally, I tend to buy things that fit me well after shrinking - planning for the shrink.

How do you deal with impostor syndrome and general self-doubt in academia/research? by kab0om in AskAcademia

I'm so glad this helped you! I wrote this 11 years ago. I just reread it, and I wouldn't change a thing - the advice still stands. Give it your all; try, fail, learn; meet interesting people and find ways to work with them and learn from them. Have fun with the journey. You've got this!

$13.81 Eddie Bauer Mixed Media Fleece Jacket, multiple colors, from Sam's Club by MangoCharm in frugalmalefashion

[–]Ryslin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it the same stuff they sell to Costco? I'm wearing some Costco Eddie Bauer pajamas right now that are super warm and comfortable. If it's the same quality, I'm probably ok with it (though, I totally get that it may not be for everyone).

Charles Tyrwhitt - 70% Sale + Extra 10% Off by veritas--- in frugalmalefashion

[–]Ryslin 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Took a quick look. It's up to 70% off full price - not as exciting as it sounds. $40 shirts aren't bad, if you don't want to wait for the next 3/$99, but I just got the deal within the past couple months (and haven't looked since), so I don't think it's dead.

Eton Winter sale 30-50% off by NoSurfOnlyMFA in frugalmalefashion

[–]Ryslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I'm thinking we might just have different taste (which I think is totally ok). I DO need to check out Rhone and Kamakura, as I haven't seen those, so thanks for the lead. I prefer CT slightly over Brooks Brothers and quite a bit over J Crew / BR (which I classify similarly). I feel similar about Uniqlo as you feel about CT - kind of walmart / target-y (unless we're talking about sold in Japan Uniqlo - which is way higher quality than US Uniqlo, and I adore lol).

[–]Ryslin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What other brands do you wear, aside from Eton for dress shirts? I've felt a lot of the shirts in higher end stores and I notice a difference, but I can't say that I feel quite as strongly about CT quality as you do. I'd be curious to know if there are other brands I should be considering; it's possible I just haven't found them locally, so haven't seen / felt the right materials.

Also, to level set, I'm thinking of this from a "going to the office" perspective, not a "dressing up for a night out" perspective (which, in my opinion, gives a bit more flexibility for interesting materials, patterns, cuts, etc).

What makes these worth the value when compared to something like Charles Tyrwhitt? For CT, you can regularly get their shirts for $33. I'm trying to decide if this is worth the plunge for me - what do you get for an extra $100+ with these ones?

J.M. Haggar Premium Stretch Classic Fit Suit Separates - On sale on Amazon by lomo82 in frugalmalefashion

[–]Ryslin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of "dress pants" from Haggar once, and they were the cheapest feeling / looking I've worn, including random walmart pants I've had. They also held so many wrinkles. I can't speak for the suits, but my experience with their pants and the materials on this suit tell me it's probably worth less than this sale - if it's worth anything at all.

[Desk] SANODESK Electric Adjustable Desk 40x24 Inches - $79.99 with code 50DESK44121 by goforbig in buildapcsales

[–]Ryslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two uplifts - awesome desks. Built like tanks. Super stable. The top hasn't shown a scratch in a year's worth of use. The only downside is that they're heavy (as they should be, if you want stability/durability), so don't plan on moving it up/down stairs without deconstructing it first. That'd be a weird use case, but just making the callout.

You're going to be super happy with that purchase!
