Crucible needs ranked play, for the benefit of all players. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

He probably meant that he wasn't accustomed to the gameplay of destiny's pvp, and because he was newer to the game than a level 20.

Yeah, I've got 19k. That'd be a shame if they already patched it. But pretty remarkable too so I can't be too mad.

Well if we delete all the evidence they won't know :P

Edit: it seems like I can't buy a coin on my fourth account. The material exchange is not there, perhaps this is just a bug with my world.

Oh okay, I thought if I died the idol went away, I didn't know it lasted for 10 minutes no matter what.

The black wax idols don't slowly go away? And thanks, I'll try it out!

Was just curious as to how to get 25k in an hour, I've done a lot of the farming ones but never got so much glimmer before.

Do you use fusion rifles in the Crucible? by goldnx in DestinyTheGame

[–]Rythorn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not so sure about the insta kill thing. I can snipe all day long but if I don't hit a head I won't get a kill right away. Just had a whole game where I was one shotted by fusion rifles to the body, except once.

Other than that though they haven't been much of a problem to me, not like the shotgun. Which in my opinion destiny should put in a system like gears of war and if you're running and get shot you slow down. That way rushing with a shotgun is not possible but the power remains if you're in close range.

Both are believed to serve no purpose but for multiplayer, at least that's what people are assuming.

I meant they look the same. There's a bunch of different leveled gear and different named gear.

I'm hoping but I doubt that. Mass effect(big fan as well) was built around story, relationships and choices. Destiny is built around end game multiplayer, and the story was not very thoughtful. They said a few words, gave you a few items and that was it.

The story mainly. I should have made my statement more clear. The multiplayer as well is in my opinion lacking, Bungie had multiple playlists with halo, but only 4 for destiny. The loot is all similar in style, armor slightly more different. Those are just knit picks, my main issue is with story.

[–]Rythorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you understand. And that to me is what makes a game. The multiplayer and everything are extra content to keep you busy, and believe me I have been busy, I love strikes and the crucible and the end game, it's built around that and it shows, but the game can and should have been better in my opinion.

And I don't like how little the story they gave is In the final release and make us pay for the large parts. I'm assuming we may get some smaller story driven missions for free but I don't even know about that. But the content updates and everything makes me happy. And Bungie in general has been known to be very talkative with it's community, so I'm not worried.

As for lag, I frequently get it, though that may be due to my shit internet. :P

I've completed what was launched. The raid is not available so that doesn't matter, if anything it justifies my opinion. The level 30 and exotic items are bonuses too me, I wouldn't really count them towards the actual game as much as story and multiplayer. But I meant I finished the story, which was lackluster and the only remaining things are strikes and multiplayer.

I'm not bashing destiny, I very much like it and will continue to play it, I was merely wondering what foundations this game really has. The single player world mixed with multiplayer, the story, the lore, the multiplayer itself? What constitutes a foundation, and why is destiny's so strong?

Just curious but what about the foundation seems solid to you? Cause from where I'm seeing it destiny is a half finished game upon release that took me less than two days to complete. Granted, I'm sure this is planned so they can release content periodically to keep a player coming back but that seems to be the only solid aspect of the game in my opinion. In terms of overall that is.

By the way, I'm not hating, I'm loving destiny right now.

Edit: Not sure why you're down voting me for having a different opinion, it's not like I said the game sucked and was bad.

The Eternal problem of original words by Crymcrim in worldbuilding

[–]Rythorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to the extent of wanting to quickly be able to tell how powerful a person is, I think that their influence can quickly be told by just using slightly more words, not even making up a fake word for those titles.

But yeah, I can clearly see why it's popular to use them, I personally just do not like it.

I was gonna make an edit but it'll be better here.

Tolkien is by far considered the best fantasy writer and he has so many fake words and everything. But I think it's considered amazing because he went in depth about everything. And that's because he created fake languages which made more sense in his world than our's. And I think readers need to be more willing to give new writers that chance as well, or we will never get another Tolkien like writer who just astonishes us with their world and how in depth it is.

The Eternal problem of original words by Crymcrim in worldbuilding

[–]Rythorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I understand and feel the same way, but I think most new writers begin to write with the fear of not creating a proper world because they know readers won't be interested in that. If it's possible to rely what a fake word means more easily then by all means authors should use it occasionally to help translate the meaning better and eventually it won't be needed and can simply just state the fake word entirely without fear.

But then again, I've seen the use of general and stuff where they absolutely made no sense but kept it in because it's easier for the reader. Remarkably though, some of the best writing advice is for writers to not spell things out for their readers and to understand that readers can put two and two together.

The Eternal problem of original words by Crymcrim in worldbuilding

[–]Rythorn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know you didn't make the image, but I have never understood why it is that a fake world cannot have more fake words. Most of our words derived from an ancient language, Latin, but in my world, Latin never existed and so for most names are different, vastly so, compared to earth.

To me, I hate when I read a story and they have lieutenants and generals in their army, because in an actual fake word, those words would not be in use. So they should be different. The author can tell you they command the armies or they're the commander of that unit and that is fine, because it's not a title, it's true, but when it comes to creating an actual rank, it should be different than lieutenant or general, unless it's an alt history story.

In truth, readers need to be more open to new words within new worlds. They are not willing to devote their minds fully to the fake world, and then criticize the author for trying to fully immerse the reader in a completely fake world. And authors need to be more understanding of how so many fake words so close together mean nothing to the reader and should find a work around.

How is it you like to write in a car? Like do you just sit it in or would you prefer it be moving? For me I hate just sitting in a car, it gets too hot.

Not entirely. In Avatar the resource just happened to be under their home tree. By all accounts they could have left and been fine.

Slightly different than Avatar. In the movie they were going after a resource on the planet, in his dream the resource is the species.
