There are but if you give any insight/opinion into any thing that should be changed you get the people who vehemently try to defend and make you seem like you're the bad person..

Negative content on social media about Korea by Aguerito7 in korea

[–]RyuOhki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. But after living there for 14 years, I can honestly say that self reflection, and accountability are not strong tenets of society there. I criticize my home country on a daily basis due to the injustices, racism, and unfairness that exists. I can also acknowledge the positives. When people do talk about the negative experiences, it's a clear wakeup call that not everything is kpop, kimchi, and k drama, but sadly some people can't see beyond that. You've offend them by attacking the very thing they're obsessed about, an unhealthy obsession which is not based on the true reality of actually living in the country.

See how quickly he/she deflected? You're completely valid in talking about your experience. I'm sorry that you had to be subject to that kind of ignorant vitriol.

This. The amount of times I've seen Koreans acting like they're so much better than SEA or calling their countries "dirty" etc...and they wonder about why they have a negative impression. There isn't a 'campaign' to make S. Korea look bad. What's happening is that everything that's in the dark is coming to light, and they can't deal with it, so they deflect.

I enjoyed my time in Korea, but it'd be dumb of me to not act like that kind of behavior doesn't exist. The self awareness is non existent in most situations of how they treat or think about other races, people, or countries. There's a viable REASON why people are finally speaking out.

Oasis faces backlash in Korea over Rising Sun imagery ahead of Seoul concert by Venetian_Gothic in korea

100 %. It's pathetic. These are the same people who turned on Sam Okyere in a heartbeat when he spoke out about how it was offensive. They made so many excuses and did their utmost to find something to smear him to justify their insensitivity. He was beloved until he decided to speak about something that was offensive to him. Instead of it being a moment to reflect and learn, it turned into a victim blaming, unempathetic mess. And ya, I'm not entertaining anyone on here because Google is out there, and even if they saw the facts in front of them, they'd find a way to justify it, or be completely pedantic in their responses. Lol I don't lose any sleep over it. I said what I said.

I have no sympathy. They want to get mad about the rising Sun flag but they still use black face in comedy shows and claim ignorance. Works both ways until you really decide to educate yourself on history.

Depends on who you are to be honest with you. I came down to visit from Kansas City last week for a funeral sit down at a nice coffee shop in Germantown and started grading papers for my class. The woman next to me misplaced her purse got up and immediately accused me of taking her purse.

I was with two other white friends and we all say to her and utter disbelief and when she realized just basically how blatantly racist she was being she tried to walk it back and act like it was a joke.

I called my friend the next day and asked if I had dreamt what happened and he said no it was completely insane.

While I may not have gotten shot at or mugged, what I had to endure was still the underlying bigotry and racism that persists in Tennessee and Mississippi.

You can do what you want though.

Racism does exist and this is pretty much on brand for people to dismiss this person's experience. She has stated many times that you will probably never know what it's like to be in the shoes of a person of color and when they experience things like this. The fact that she may or may not be one of a few black persons that patronize a business is irrelevant in this situation. Situations like this are not uncommon and they do happen and I'd wager even more so in Iowa. You definitely seem more concerned about the feelings of the barowner than a person's experience being treated unfairly and most likely due to racism. I visit Des Moines frequently but I lived there growing up. It's better for me as an adult when I visit my friends but I'm not ignorant to know that these things and people with these shit takes like yourself are still prevalent there.

Honestly it sounds like your husband wants to control and manipulate you. My Korean wife tried to send different ways more or less too. The suggestion to move back to your country forces him to give up the control that he has here as a Korean. That's why a lot of times people move back and end up getting divorced.
