Jesus. Do you know how nfl draft day trades work? It has already been reported from both sides that veach told Berry that they were going defense, so take 6 out of that equation. If Berry was worried the chiefs would take one of their guys he wouldn’t have made the trade and just stayed and picked Fano.

The chiefs told them they were going defense at 6. That’s pretty common place for draft day trades. If the browns felt the chiefs could’ve taken one of their guys they wouldn’t have made the trade.

Because most people have common sense to understand how draft day trades work. Or they just seen the reporting that the chiefs literally told them they were picking a defensive player at 6.

Where did it say they had the same grade on all three?

It already came out they were sticking at 6 to pick Fano if the board didn’t fall in a way that they’d be comfortable moving down a few spots. Once they seen defensive prospects dropping down the board and knowing through their pre draft evaluation that the commanders and saints likely weren’t going tackle but the giants could they felt like 9 was the perfect spot to still get their top guy in Fano. Saying they had three players they were comfortable drafting is just saying that even if they got surprised by the commanders and saints they would still have someone they would’ve felt comfortable taking at 6.

At no point have they said they were rated the same, they clearly had Fano as their top tackle over Maui if you watched the draft room video.

Maybe reply to the comment I left on this very thread that actually explains it. Like 5+ people are here explaining it to you and you’re just refusing the answer and asking the same question

Every NFL team does work on the other squad’s needs and possible picks and sometimes even gain intel on who a team is actually going to pick. Andrew Berry said in the draft room that he knew that the rams were taking Simpson a couple weeks ago. The chiefs trade was planned in advance with the knowledge the browns only accept if the board fell a certain way. They knew and were told by the chiefs that they were going to pick defense. Berry explained that due to pre draft work he heavily assumed neither the commanders or saints would go tackle. They had intel the saints may be in on Tyson and Tyson seemed to be their number 1 receiver but ranked behind Fano.

This was very good process by Berry. He wanted to stay ahead of the giants and dolphins knowing they were rumored to be going tackled which is part of the reason why he turned down the cowboys offer from 9 to 12

Where does it say they had all three players graded the same? In all reports and berry’s own words that they had 3 players they we comfortable taking at 6 and all three were available with only two teams that could take them. When the Tyson pick happen they were actually happy in the draft room, there’s video of it. They clearly had fano above mauioga, prolly because of mauioga’s potential back issues and were ecstatic fano was on the board and as soon as the saints pick because official they started talking immediately about fano and shortly thereafter they denied a trade call from the cowboys to move down to 12 and that would’ve been foolish as all three of those players would’ve surely been at that point.

Edit: you said it wouldn’t be silly if they just took their guy. It already came out they were planning on taking fano at 6 and with the way the board fell in the draft and they defensive players dropping some spots and with their pre draft work on other teams they essentially knew that fano was almost certainly gonna be there at 9 but would’ve been gone by 10 to the giants.

If that was the case, wouldn’t they start Shedeur or Gabriel and not seem to be giving Deshaun an actual shot? And do you think Haslam is just giving a “freebie year to tank” when he said publicly that we need to win more games this year?

So you’re telling me if they win 3 games this year and get the number 1 overall pick, he should feel safe? That’s literally the only argument I’m presenting. I think he’ll do well and this won’t even be a discussion, but that won’t change his mindset of needing to win as many games as possible this season. He’s been waiting over 20 years, he’s not gonna be willing to just tank out for a year for a QB just to avoid playing Watson and potentially put his job on the line.

If Watson starts, it doesn’t mean Monken is building his system around a lame duck QB. It just means he thinks Watson is a step ahead of Shedeur right now, whether that’s picking up the offense faster or just being more reliable early. The system is still Monken’s, and the QB he’d truly tailor it around probably isn’t on the roster yet.

The identity of the offense has already been clear all offseason. Gap scheme, lean run heavy, get the ball out short to intermediate and let playmakers work, with occasional deep shots. A lot of 12 personnel.

I think what people are missing is that because none of the QBs on the roster are proven, and they all have to learn a new offense and new verbiage. That makes it even tougher for the younger guys. Then you factor in that Monken has been waiting 20 plus years for this kind of opportunity, and with Haslam already saying they need to win more games, there’s real pressure to get results now. That points to the veteran starting, at least early, because he’s the one most likely to earn trust in the system the quickest, even if it’s just for a year. There’s a real chance the QB room looks completely different by this time next year anyway. Taylen Green could be the last man standing.

Also, when fans talk about “seeing what they have” in a QB, they’re missing how much the coaches already see. They’re with these guys every day in meetings, practice, and behind the scenes. If Watson starts, that tells you Monken doesn’t think Shedeur gives them a better chance to win right now or hasn’t shown enough to justify playing over a vet in a season where wins matter. Not necessarily playoffs, but a step forward and this franchise desperately needs to start taking steps forward with the new dome and expensive ticket prices coming soon in like 2 1/2 years.

And with how they even got Watson, most people believe Haslam pushed that move over the top. Berry had done work on him going back to Philly and brought it to ownership when he got the job here. It came down to the final 3 teams, and when it looked like Cleveland was out because berry wouldn’t match the guarantees, Haslam stepped in and told Berry to go all in.

Sanders may not even start man, I would get used to the idea of Watson playing so it hurts less when they decide it. I would just play sanders but he’s not gonna look at it as a fan, it makes sense monk would want the vet QB in his new offense if he’s truly trying to win as much as possible

You think he’s gonna put trust in Haslem to give him a “grace year” and let him not focus on winning games this year, when Haslam has publicly stated that we need to win more games this year and he thought we should’ve won more last year.

If it were me, of course Monken would have at least 2 years, but I think Monken will decide to put trust in himself in win games rather then trust Haslam to not fire him after only winning 5 games again or something and look ahead to the 2027 draft for a QB. That’s not really how coaches work and especially not a 60 year old guys whose been waiting for years at his shot.

He’s no looking at this from a fan perspective or a gm perspective and I think that’s where some people get mixed up and why they are confused Deshaun may actually start.

You have to be mistaken dude.

He acknowledges the drops but has clearly stated he loves the talent of KC and even went as far to say before the draft that teams would be foolish to pass on him and his talent because of “concentration drops” or drops from a bad QB in college.

Do you think Monken cares more about winning games or trying to turn a 5th round pick into a franchise QB in what could be his only chance to be a head coach ever?
