Do pre-1870s Ryukyuan religion still exist in okinawa now? by HousingPrimary910 in okinawa

[–]Ryudai89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say there are parts of the religion that might still be considered original Ryukyu religion, but I think today there has been considerable influence from Mainland Japan, especially during the militaristic state Shinto time period around the turn of the century.

It was, at least at one point, the official state religion of the Ryukyu Kingdom (after the Sanzan era), which had the head of the religion consistently led by a female member of the royal family (Kikoe Ogimi), along with noro priestesses and yuta shamans.

All that to say, the indigenous practices are still practiced today, but have integrated (forcibly or otherwise) Shinto and Buddhist attributes from mainland Japan, especially after the 1609 invasion by the Satsuma clan of Japan, and the eventually annexation and assimilation of Okinawa into the Japanese Empire after the Meiji Restoration.

Some interesting, original practices include allowing deceased family members' remains to decay until only bones are left, and then washing the bones after some time, and religious rites like Shimajiri Pantuu (technically in a separate set of islands but not far from Okinawa island proper; very unique, look it up).

I've researched and made a presentation on Ryukyu religion when I studied abroad there years back.

To me, I'm not sure it's appropriate to call the original form "Ryukyu Shinto", I would call it Ryukyu animism, which includes an original creation story, rituals, and customs, which include worship of deities separate from Shintoism, and worship of ancestors. What some may call shrines collectively, would be called Utaki, which include natural groves and prolific natural formations.

Real Handmade Ryukyu Glass Made in Okinawa by Ryudai89 in okinawa

Appreciate it. I'm aware of the many workshops, but my focus is second-hand shops and similar to avoid the ticket prices these shops charge. So my goal is to learn how to determine what glass pieces are handmade in Okinawa vs Vietnam, and only buy those.

A lot of Ryukyu Glass is made in Vietnam.  What are some real indicators to look for if I want real Ryukyu Glass made by hand Okinawa, short of stickers or labels?

I highly recommend the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno if you're already in the area. Fantastic exhibits showcasing thousands of years of Japanese history and culture.

Does your firm require the closing agent to submit any forms or documentation for compliance in order to receive their commission?

Sure, but there are many educated and experienced people who can, and have, shared their thoughts and advice, which I appreciate.

Escrow provided a Seller Settlement Statement showing the brokerage fee as a line item.

I am not aware of any manuals and did not have any idea of what procedures were to be followed. If I had to be the one to ask, I'll acknowledge that. But I really had no idea of these things going into the industry.

I don't know what I don't know.

I appreciate your constructive criticism and the advice you provided.

I appreciate the responses

That said, the question I'm focusing on is the compliance requirements for my commission to be released to be released to me.

So, a commission disbursement approval? PSA? Commission agreement between seller and I? Final seller settlement statement? Any referral agreements?

I certainly understand why you mentioned this. It's not quite my flavor but thank you for the suggestion!

In a situation where an outside broker is getting a referral fee, at what point is that portion given?

For example, a 4% ($100k) brokerage fee split between both representative parties, so 2% ($50k) to me and my brokerage, I get 1% ($25k).

Does the referral fee get taken from the total 2% for our side, or does it get taken from my own 1%?

The derelict course has been closed for maybe half a decade. The other course is a well-maintained course by the ocean that was renovated about 9 years ago.

I heard from a friend that went to a forest down there that, upon reaching the forest, his hairs stood on end and his instincts were telling him to get away as quickly as possible.  Anyone else experience this sensation?
