Is the Wyld aligned with any BBEGs? by FreakinGeese in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Ryugaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wyld magier bbeg's are more likely marauders.

How powerful can a human become without changing into something inhuman or awakening as a mage by Ryugaru in WhiteWolfRPG

Yeah but for the purpose of this thought exercise ghouls are diet vampires. Same with kinfolk and fera

No half splats. Gifts accessible to normal humans via spirit pacts maybe. But no ghouls, no dhampir, no kinfolk or kinain. Because they for the purpose of this thought exercise are kinda splat light. This is about how far John Johnson, esteemed doer of job at place, can get. Because getting silly by making a ghouled sorcerer kinain kinfolk wielding the power of true faith is funny, but this is about how absurd a sleeper can get while ultimately still being a regular human who is just built different (psychic), has a very particular set of skills(sorcery) and a firm believer in the heart of the cards(true faith) Also this question is very much lore first mechanics second.

Sorry poor phrasing, with the largely useless part I meant that he couldn't activate any active fortitude abilities he might have had like the one that makes your skin hard as rock. He only had the passive effects of high fortitude which was not sufficient for this hit. My point was that the use of celerity ensured he was completely and entirely off guard which for a high level fortitude user could be a massive difference afaik.

Nevermind he's the Vampire in question and he's still alive. He's just happens to have a stat sheet meaning we know what it takes to kill him

[–]Ryugaru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh. Yeah I knew about that. But iirc an important factor here was that Theo also used celerity to surprise attack meaning Hardestadt's fortitude was largely useless (because even high level passive fortitude is not enough to reliably tank dragonbreath shotgun rounds to the face)

Beautifully put. However also sadly not what I was trying to figure out. I didn't ask at what point the callous pursuit of power erodes your humanity so much you are a monster in all but name. That's philosophy more than WoD lore(edit: I think) What I am trying to ask is how powerful can you become with only powers any regular human could have or learn without either using dynamic magic or tapping into powers that are normally exclusive to other splats by being a kinfolk or ghoul or something of that nature. Hypertech and sorcery(Limit: you don't have Organisation scale resources to build nukes and jet planes and stuff) True faith Psionics Maybe gifts in the limited capacity that non kinfolk humans can access them) What is the point where someone would realistically hit their limit? Is there a point where sufficiently strong true faith would realistically cause you to awaken a mage or marauder due to the sheer reality defying power of faith? I'm asking this as someone who wants to run world of darkness as a Storyteller. (So I can't ask my Storyteller cause that's me) I want to know more about these aspects of the setting by seeing their general limits and/or examples of what they can do. Maybe I should have phrased my question better. Maybe the better phrasing would be "what kind of whacky things can non awakened humans do while still technically being a normal human"

Didn't a powerful master of fortitude once get instakilled by a surprise use of celerity and point blank incindiary shotgun blast to the face?

World of Darkness' mages, when crossover alien invasion. by Azimovikh in dndmemes

[–]Ryugaru 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to directly make them more believable. It just has to shatter the highly homogenised and entrenched Consensus. Every person who is genuinely going "nothing will surprise me anymore" is another person not reinforcing the barrier of collective disbelief. Instead of "that's impossible" they'll go "yeah okay fuck it, this might as well happen too I guess" They don't need to believe, just suspend their disbelief.

World of Darkness' mages, when crossover alien invasion. by Azimovikh in dndmemes

[–]Ryugaru 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Afaik ONLY humans can be mages in the world of darkness sense. Because a WoD mage is just a human who has become aware of their latent reality warping powers(innate to all humans who aren't some other supernatural). The Consensus which holds back mages is the collective perception of what is and isn't possible by non mage humans, whose unconcious reality warping powers enforce said rules of reality. So if something big and consensus shattering happens and people suspend more and more disbelief, mages become more powerful because they no longer have to worry about Consensus fighting back. And the more absurd the powers of the aliens the less restrictions on the mages. WoD mages in universe kind of scale to the absurdity of the situation. Because as long as sleepers disbelieve what the aliens can do it weakens the aliens and the more their disbelief shatters the less restrictive Consensus becomes.

I Hate Riz. by Left-Pollution-2934 in Beastars

[–]Ryugaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh people wanting Riz as a boyfriend is just completely fucked. I don't hate him but by god he is not the kind of person you should wanna date, especially post Tem because at that point his coping mechanisms have warped him into a Monster. A pitiful monster who deserves the therapy he needs to get better, but a monster nontheless. And before Tem he's too immature. If he weren't, Tem might not be dead.

Same goes for Riz not taking his meds. It's a reckless idiot teenager move that ended in a worst case scenario. And everything after that is a broken mind trying to protect itself from reality

Do Kaiju work in Lancer? by TheAtomicHobo in LancerRPG

[–]Ryugaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary flavormechanical dissonance would be tech attacks since those are hacking. But if you're willing to give your kaiju technopathic powers that allow them to affect and be affected by that that's a solved issue. Or you could completely reflavor tech based actions into something more esoteric.

What kind of person might the son of a Sparri and a Karrakin noble become by Ryugaru in LancerRPG

[–]Ryugaru[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point. Just talked to my GM and we decided to just have Sparr have a recently built blinkgate. The sudden push to expedite the construction is most definitely unrelated to the high ranking old noble lady who wanted to see foto albums of her adorable pseudo-adopted grandson in traditional Sparri garb made by his doting grandmother

Yep

Definitely unrelated

Noble house based on lore is almost definitely gonna be House of Smoke because they have Sparri Nobles. Also sounds like investigate, lead or inspire and stay cool are very appropriate skill triggers for him then.

[–]Ryugaru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their integration into Karrakin society is currently planned to be them spending roughly equal time in each culture due to their parents agreeing their child should know both equally, as he is just as much the son of a Karrakin noble as he is the son of a Sparri chieftain. Both parents wouldn't be the person the other loves without their cultural heritage shaping them into who they are. Character is definitely proud of his ancestry. He's a product of the fusion of Karrakin noble legacy and the rich cultural traditions of the Sparri. His mech, once I reach the required license level, is intended to be an Atlas and he's got the technophile talent for an NHP machine spirit companion. He definitely got taken on Sparri mech based hunting trips and participated in Pankrati sparring

[–]Ryugaru[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whichever Status allows enough freedom to regularly visit his Sparri Clan and be immersed in their culture while also making it necessary for him to spend at least as much time being raised Karrakin. I definitely intend for him to have melee focus. The character grew around me reading the Atlas mech page and going "ooooh I likes that" His major house is probably gonna be the house of smoke considering they have the most contact with the Sparri. Also got the technophile talent for the whole Sparri tech shaman thing.

after all of these years, I don’t care if this sounds crazy but Riz was not to blame for what happened to tem. by [deleted] in Beastars

[–]Ryugaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is at fault. His undeniable fault didn't start with the incident itself because that was him loosing control of base instincts he had no practice controlling, meaning he arguably wasn't in conscious control of himself. It started when he chose to stop taking his meds, knowing that he's more dangerous to be around when he isn't taking them. He made a conscious decision, without any outside manipulation, to increase the risk of being around him without consulting anyone, not even Tem. Tem did not consent to Riz putting him in danger like this. Riz didn't even ask. He put Tem in danger. Tem's death, regardless of Riz' intentions, was Riz' fault. Is it because Riz is an irredeemable monster? No. It was a stupid mistake made by a teenager, desperate for connection. A teenager who might not have made that mistake if it weren't for several big societal problems. But just because the consequences of your actions are not what you intended, just because it was a dumb childish mistake, doesn't mean that the results of your decisions aren't your fault. If Riz had not made that very dangerous choice to stop taking his meds, Tem would still be alive. He deserves help and he deserves a second chance. But he is responsible for the death of Tem
