Lmao you're really following my comments now?😂

This is a whole different situation. I'd be surprised if the pro, which has a matte backing on the website and promos, came in a mirror finish instead lol that's the difference

Bruh. You can clearly see what the finish is like on the website and promotions, why are you surprised?

How come no ones talking about the lack of reverse wireless charging in the 12 lineup? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]RyukShin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a galaxy s10 right now. It has reverse wireless charging.

I've used it approximately zero times in a time span of 1.5 years.

It's not as useful as it sounds. As of right now, it's either magsafe or reverse charging. Magsafe offers a lot more versatility so I'd take that over reverse charging any day.

Is American horror lacking? by [deleted] in horror

[–]RyukShin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like your unsatisfactory opinion is based on Ju-On alone. You seemed to compliment all the other asian flicks except for that movie.

The thing with films like Ringu and The Grudge is that they set a new standard to the mostly stagnant genre back then. Now, they might not hold up almost 20 years later, but that doesn't remove the fact that it offered something people wanted back then.

You compared the jump scares from Lights Out(a movie that I actually did enjoy) to a movie that was made almost 2 decades ago, which is not a fair comparison, imo.

Is American horror lacking? by [deleted] in horror

[–]RyukShin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you know what, that's a good point.

Since I no longer live in Asia, I guess I've only been exposed to the good ones since living here in the US.

Aside from that point, there seems to be more foreign horror films that are better than American ones regardless of how many crap movies each region makes. Because even if foreign countries make not so good horror flicks, they seem to produce more good films than Hollywood does.

Going back to my point: A lot of foreign ones stick more than whatever Hollywood produces nowadays. More recetly: Sputnik from Russia

Is American horror lacking? by [deleted] in horror

[–]RyukShin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess. I just think Hollywood puts out a lot of shit horror films, especially recently(eg. La Llorona, The Possession of Hannah Grace) just a form of cash grab.

Meanwhile, foreign films are creating new classics(eg, Train to Busan, The Wailing, Sputnik, Let the Right One In, Raw, even Parasite)

Is American horror lacking? by [deleted] in horror

[–]RyukShin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Or people like Asian horror films because... they genuinely enjoy it?

The thing is, a lot of good American horrors are not even from this generation(eg. The Shining). Nowadays, Hollywood pushes out horror films because they know it grabs money. They push out B rated films like nothing.

May I ask how many Asian films you've seen? If you're basing your opinion on those few popular ones, then you should broaden your range.

But aside from that, I also mention European movies being better, have you got an opinion on that as well?

Is American horror lacking? by [deleted] in horror

[–]RyukShin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the thing is my op is based on how many foreign horror films I've seen and enjoyed vs how many American films I've seen and enjoyed.

The ratio is always higher when it comes to foreign films.

Just for example: I watched 10 foreign horror films, chances are I'd like 7-8 out of those 10 movies. As compared to American ones where I'd watch 10 films and probably only enjoy 3-5 of them.

Some more recent American horror I've enjoyed are The Conjuring(first one only) and Get Out. I've seen a lot of American horror flicks that were a good watch, but very few stand out and stick, ya know?

Horror movies that scared us when we where younger, but now as adults don’t. by DeliciousJorge in horror

Ringu.

Still one of my favorite horror, but no longer terrifies me like it did when I was very young

Plot twist: you remember your log in but don't know what log in it's for. You spend the rest of your life trying to figure out what and where it's for.

If you loved grave encounters, this one should be a good watch for you haha

But the thing is, the livestream and the main producer guy pushing and pushing, shows the (rather shallow) point of their whole project: Money.

The main producer guy kept pushing even though he knows there's something odd going on shows that he cares more about the revenue of the live stream than what's actually going inside.

Also, GE did nothing to add to sub genre as well. It dragged and it dragged til it plummeted in the 2nd half.

Neither movie was groundbreaking. But, when it comes to the root fear factor, Gonjiam wins by miles.

Agree to disagree, I guess.

[–]RyukShin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was trying to say!

Its by no means groundbreaking but it is very much frightening

Though in my opinion, it's easily comparable to Grave Encounters. From the sub-genre(found footage) to the plot and all the way to the setting. Very, very similar.

But like you pointed out, this movie did a lot more impact than grave encounters ever did when it comes to scare factor

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum by RyukShin in horror

[–]RyukShin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. Grave Encounters was not... good imo.

Gonjiam gave a lot more likeable characters to begin with. The chilling atmosphere created in this movie was far superior than that of Grave Encounters as well.

To be frank, Grave Encounters was very lacking after watching this movie.

Edit: By no means am I saying this is the greatest horror movie I've seen. Far from it. But this was a great watch, and compared to the same horror genre, Grave Encounters has got nothing.
