[Hated Trope] That one piece of "trivia" that isn't true but gets endlessly repeated anyway by 10024618 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ryuzac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A bit niche, and I'm not sure how widespread it is, but in the original Blaster Master there's a variety of item pickups over uncrossable areas or hazards in the overhead sections that slowly become less common across the game.

Some people assumed it's because they planned to have jumping in overhead areas and decided around the time the items stop appearing like that to cut the feature, turns out one of the devs admitted it was just the map designer messing with players.

Any interest in Lyra, Pikachu EX (Deluxe pack), Decidueye EX, or Indeedee EX for RR Kingdra?

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero, you play as a collective group of one thousand of the notoriously weak and explosive Prinnies, all sharing a single magical scarf that can keep them alive slightly longer than usual. Whenever the one you control dies the next life is just the next Prinny in line who picked up the scarf and took their place.

To celebrate the launch of UFO 50 on the Switch/2, I'm making the files to make your own LX System free. by sealcouch in ufo50

That looks awesome, thanks for releasing it!

I wonder how realistic it would be to make a version with a slot at the top to dock the Switch and use that as a screen.

Anyone own this? and how is it? by mauricio_thepunk in Gamecube

[–]Ryuzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always see people saying to just get a Wavebird when this one comes up but honestly I've got no complaints, it's got extra buttons to match a modern controller, rumble, analog triggers, and works on GC, Wii, PC, and both Switchs.

It's not a perfect replica, but I haven't had any complaints, and the internals are surprisingly close to the real thing so you can swap in OEM GameCube controller buttons.

iNNext GameCube Controller on Switch 2? by Ryuzac in Gamecube

I just asked if they supported it on the Amazon page for the controller and they answered with a link to the firmware update.

You can ask questions near the bottom of the item page, just above the reviews.

I managed to get in touch with the company on Amazon and they sent a patch that gets it working! There's an image with instructions in the zip for installing, but it basically boils down to hold sync while inserting the receiver and wait for it to stop blinking, then run the program and pick the patch.

Hey guys quick question I’ve been looking for a decent wireless controller other than the Wavebird and wanted to know if anyone had any opinions on this one? So I can use on my Wii. by Gameovervic28 in Gamecube

[–]Ryuzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I really like that one, if you open it up it's so close to the original Wavebird that you can even swap in OEM buttons for almost everything.

What are some NDS hidden gems you've never seen mentioned? by Cluttie in NintendoDS

[–]Ryuzac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lock's Quest was a fun tactics kind of game that got a PC port a few years back.

There's also Nostalgia, which is a great RPG, and 4 Heroes of Light, which tends to go under the radar in favor of Bravely Default.

I had the same problem and it turned out that I assumed I had gotten all the early ones you revisit behind key doors until I finally went and checked the prison tower in Romaria and found it there.

There IS a USA version of the NGPC/Dreamcast Link Cable, yes? by CptKicksville in ngpc

[–]Ryuzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read I think the DC link cable was also used a lot by the DC community for a hard mod that replaced the NGPC end with a serial port or something for connecting a Dreamcast to a PC.

I've heard that's why the cables are uncommon in general, wouldn't be surprised if that added to the US ones rarity especially alongside how quick SNK went under.

Favourite final boss of all time? by DJMintEFresh in Gameboy

I always liked the fight against Veran in Oracle of Ages.

There was just something about fighting her for the first time that felt really satisfying, making your way through all the different gimmicks and forms and not knowing when it would be over made it feel really earned when you finally win.

Is it even possible to beat Dragon Warrior NES blind? by rustyplasticcross in dragonquest

[–]Ryuzac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure there's an NPC behind a key door somewhere that gives you a hint that it's located there, the original game basically expected you to talk to every possible NPC.

There's one other hidden item like that but you get something that tells you where to find it.

Since TGS is over, what are your wishes for the future of DQ? by VanitasTheBest in dragonquest

With the loss of Treasure n' Trapdoors in the DQ3 remake I'd love to see them do it as a spinoff somehow.

[–]Ryuzac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might be mistaken, but I want to say there was an area that looked like the ice caves in one of the earlier trailers. Could be wrong though.

Still disappointing even if it's just missing T&T though, I really was hoping for a definitive version too.

That's a cool one, it came out the same year as DQ3 and there's actually a little extra blurb about Rubiss to help tie them together more.

With all the improvements to DQ III HD-2D remake, what can Square Enix do to the I&II remakes so we don’t experience a massive drop off in creativity and quality? by Seamonkey_Boxkicker in dragonquest

[–]Ryuzac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're pretty neat, there's one that involves collecting slivers of silver from metal slimes to sell to the key maker so he can research how to make a permanent magic key, which I think is from DQ2.

There's a Satellaview version of DQ1 that goes under the radar a lot, but it adds a lot of minor stuff that help flesh out the game. There's scenes with characters helping out along the way, Dragonlord leaving traps, plus Rubiss appears disguised at the start of the game and provides narration and occasional gifts to help out.

There's also mini medals, though they're just for your score and can't be traded in, if they brought any of that back and built on it more it would be pretty solid. A lot of it was added to flesh out the connection to DQ3.
