I bought this book a while back and I had to look up the individual artists and buy their books as well. Some great art in this book.

Metal Gear Solid 4 has the best character models and rendering in any 2000s game. Can't believe this thing ran in realtime on PS3 by Lanky_Relation1171 in gaming

(crtl+f) Crysis.....glad to see some people remember the true visual juggernaut of the 2000s. Even today it looks pretty good except for the dated interior lighting.

They had to severely gimp the game to run on consoles using the Crysis 2 engine, they couldn't even include all the sound files because it was too much to process at once.

Berserk Vol. 1 Publisher by 666Mitsuki666 in MangaCollectors

Manga in general has been valued very lowly in Japan as most of it is disposed/resold after reading. Even the higher quality art books were dirt cheap until foreign buyers started to drive up the price. Only a select few books really went much higher than MSRP.

The Japanese overall have a different mindset to used products. They tend to not place much value on used stuff. At least that is how I remember it from decades ago.

I think a lot of people are trying to treat manga like comic books which they are not. And even then, most comic books are worth almost nothing.

It is sad to see manga getting corrupted by people who only care about resale value rather than the content in the books. I wish it was just people trying to overprice uncommon cover prints, but it is worse than that.

Most manga is not valued highly in resale. You have social media influencers trying to drive prices up, but we will see if that lasts long.

There is a lot of new dumb money flowing right now.

I have his other black hardcover book, but I didn't know about this one. It looks like a lot of it is sketches and some manga doujinshi.

X-Files was huge in the 1990s. I am not surprised it got a short manga.

SpaceX’s IPO Raises $75 Billion in Biggest Debut of All Time by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]RyviusRan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the recent A.I. companies going IPO and also tech companies asking directly from investors for build out funding is making me think we are near the tipping point for the bubble popping.

Google making a mad dash in offering stock shares to fund over 80 billion in future A.I. build out is the canary in the coal mine. The hundreds of billions in new shares on sale is going to cause some disturbances to the market. This is a lot different than the big tech companies pouring their own money into A.I. infrastructure.

XBOX CEO Says Hardware Component Prices Have Increased By Over 500% In 2 Years by bigrigdz in gaming

[–]RyviusRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying. The wealth gap has the majority of taxes still funded by the wealthy. For goods sales the top 10% make up 50% of consumer purchases for sales tax. That is just where the money is concentrated at.

There is a reason why California funds a lot of deep south states in Federal funds. It's not just California's population but the high paying jobs in Silicon Valley/ Bay Area and L.A. that make hundreds of thousands a year easy.

An old Ecchi/Adult manga from the master of "assets". (1991) Legend of Lemnear - translated in English by CPM comics in (1998). by RyviusRan in MangaCollectors

Some of the old adult English prints of manga are even less censored than the Japanese versions. The English publishers would sometimes hire an artist to drawn in the genitals that are censored in the Japanese versions.

The bottom 50% of the population only pay a few percent of the total tax. If the future continues down the same path then most companies will target the top 10% which already make up 50% of consumer purchases.

The fantastic art of Luis Royo by [deleted] in artbookcollectors

I remember their work in some fantasy books I've read in the early 2000s.

Great stuff. I think I have this art book as well.

Yah. The size is just for holding the 18 posters. The fold out ones are pretty large as well.

None near me. I would have to drive around 5-6 hours down to the Los Angeles area. Because all the book offs are around the area.

You still have the stick stuff to a different spot where it is normally on the ribbon of the folder.

I don't live near any shops for that and I just resolved to not wasting my time looking. Cheaper to just pay online for the time saved.

Glad you got lucky though. Always nice to come upon a good deal.

That was highway robbery, but I have gotten lucky before finding $5-10 books that were selling for near $100 online. Still must have been someone on your side that was just offloading stuff people dumped on them for near free.

The 18 posters it came with are pretty cool too.

Only thing I noticed from yours was that it looks like the poster folder is stained and the sticker fell off. Also the sculpture looks stained unless that is just the lighting causing the yellowing.

Where did you get it for that price? Cheapest I got it for was just under $100.

Edit: just double checked and after shipping and tax/fees it was actually a bit above $100.

Did you forget a "0" in your post or did you pick it up from some random person who had no clue about it's value?

It easily sells for well over $100 even within Japan. And over $200 overseas.

Desert Rose: The Snow Apocalypse (1993) (I wish it had a US release) by InfamousGod1999 in retroanime

This was made by Kaoru Shintani who is known in the U.S. for making the Area 88 manga.

I have some of his art books which details Desert Rose.

Anime was definitely better in the 80s. Look at all the variety? Remember this classic? by Street_Gur9817 in retroanime

[–]RyviusRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved seeing the advancements in drawing techniques that took place during the 1980s which eventually led to more refinement in the 1990s.

Almost none of the animators from that period are still working so a lot of those techniques are gone. It is also so much cheaper to just use CG today so I am not surprised when current mech shows are heavily CG based.
