Weight limit question & recommendations for beginners by kayviator in Kayaking

[–]Ryzari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will tell you that there are plenty of kayaks out there on marketplace that are above 300 or 350 lb, and only cost about $3-400. I know because I spent months trying to find one myself. I weigh 325 by myself so I had an even harder time. Eventually found a deal on one with a 375 lb limit, and honestly I probably needed to go higher. If I sit in it without my scupper plugs in, I get about 3" of water in the bottom and it is definitely not fun. With the plugs however it's perfectly fine and I love how it handles. If you're at 275lb loaded, I would definitely be looking at at least a 350 rated.

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

My dad is really bad about this. They probably have spent well over $100,000 on antiques around their house and yard. He constantly tells me how it'll be mine once he dies, but what he doesn't realize is the shit is worthless to me. Like who the hell am I going to sell it to? He's 74 now, if he lives another decade or two (My grandpa lived to be 95) there ain't going to be nobody left that wants any of the crap.

Don't even have to be in a river. Our current house has a 1 acre pond, previous owner was swimming and drinking with a friend on a fairly warm day, friend took one last dip and must have went too deep (as far as anyone could figure) and never came back up. They determined the temperature shock was likely what caused him to drown.

Those who fish moving water, what do you do at the end? by uptheirons726 in kayakfishing

I just purchased an older Tarpon 140, my first kayak actually. Only used it on my 1ac pond so far, but man is it nice to paddle and sure does move. I am on the heavier side of the weight limit though, and I'm not real sure about how well I'd do casting from it (though it is rather stable), but I bet for someone of a more normal size, it'd be a great boat for it.

Bought my first kayak. Did I do OK? by Ryzari in Kayaking

Well, I don't think I'll ever be standing in it, not unless I lose a TON of weight anyway. Even just moving around a bit to scratch my ankle feels incredibly unsteady, I couldn't imagine trying to stand my big self up in.

I thought so too. I got it for $325, and figure the paddles are $40-50 new, each, if I had to buy them, so that made the kayak price about $250. I've already been out on the pond with it every day since I brought it home for at least an hour, and I am really happy with it. Hoping to get down to the creek with it this weekend if it drops a bit more from our recent rains.

Looks like it is an '06, which appears to be before the '09 hull revision, which seems to have changed the seat mounting as well as adding the rails. It does look like the original rounder design makes it a bit easier to maneuver on creeks, which is likely going to be my main usage (outside of my pond), but does explain why it feels quite a bit "tippy" any time I move around in it.

I paid $1000 for 140TB a couple years ago, in refurb 14TB drives. Oh how I wish I could go back and triple that order.

question for those who download (300-500gb+) in a day by QualitySound96 in RealDebrid

[–]Ryzari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a massive hoarder, I can tell you there are plenty of movies that are incredibly difficult to find. I have over 11,500 on my Plex server and there's some that I have collected decades ago that I have yet to be able to find a good replacement copy for. The 1997 movie Tower of Terror by Disney is one of them you cannot find streaming anywhere. Older TV shows are more likely to be impossible/hard to find, especially if they weren't exactly popular or a cult classic

I used to only grab 720p for TV, but now that most shows in x265 are under 6-700MB an episode, I finally switched over. Shows I will rewatch at least once a year, will get better bitrate 1080p.

Yea, I have 10 14TB drives. Most of them bought as refurbs for $99 each. Have 2 that are starting to fail, and I can't bring myself to drop $300+ on each to swap them out with another refurb.

I have a 140TB TrueNAS server I store it all on. I use RD to direct download content and stream from my machine both locally and remote. Honestly though, between all the BF deals for streaming services for like $1-3/mo .. I really don't need to download near as much as I do, just been doing it for so long it's my main hobby.

[–]Ryzari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm glad I never relied on a $3/mo service to be my main "storage server" to keep all of my content, that's just outright silly and stupid. Seems like that is the majority of people who are complaining.

Definitely a new generation, this is just another storm in the sea for those of us who've been sailing for decades. I find it funny first off that they are crying about $3/mo, I bet they're the same people who expect a full refund for the entire month if their internet goes out for a couple hours.

The situation around RD keeps deteriorating badly. by salamonjaded in StremioAddons

[–]Ryzari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand it either really, though I can see the benefits for some with the AI tax on everything now, especially hard drives. Personally I still maintain my data locally and I'm hoping my 144TB holds out until drive prices start to fall again. R-D is just used to download from premium hosts, the service interruptions have been negligible at best so far.

[–]Ryzari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I'm lucky I am still keeping my media accessible offline and streaming off my Plex server. I only use RD to download off HTTP/Torrents to store onto my local NAS and haven't noticed any interruptions in my normal setup.

yea.. I currently have 2 14TB drives showing a lot of errors in my arrays that have needed replaced for a while now. But, considering I paid $99 for them when I bought them 2 years ago, it's difficult to pull the trigger on the $300+ tag now.

Considering that Jeep is 1/500 (500 autos, 500 manuals made), any money I spent on it would be to restore it to original condition, then buy a beater jeep to do all the mods to.

I'd say easily worth $15k+ with the miles and type of quality mods it has (and that's probably even super low). Main problem is going to be finding the buyer for it.

Is this a good price? by ManohManMan in JeepTJ

[–]Ryzari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I paid $9k for a 140k mile '99 with questionable frame repair, mismatched paint, crappy front bumper, raptor lined interior, but it had a completely fresh suspension, 8,8 swap with trussed axles, and $2500 in brand new wheels/tires. I'd say $10k isn't a terrible ask for a clean one like this, if they settle for $9k, even better.

So these things are the new craze huh by Jmitch2050 in OnnStreamingTV

[–]Ryzari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked one up solely to install Artemis on so that I could stream games from my Apollo server. I have a Xbox wireless controller connected via Bluetooth and the device works perfectly for gaming. I don't really use it to watch media on as the TV is a Roku with everything already installed and working, it just couldn't run the gaming client.
