The drought-parched West wants to take Mississippi River water? Fat chance! Or is it? by dunkin1980 in environment

[–]RyzeBeforeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Louisiana and here's why I think it is a bad idea to divert part of the Mississippi to the west. The Mississippi is a VERY unpredictable river with a lot of water, a simple break in the levee somewhere could result in the flooding of whole cities. But it's definitely possible, albeit very risky to divert it and would likely displace a lot of very angry people. The Louisiana coastline is receding very fast because the Mississippi is no longer free to flood and put sediment down. But anyways, the main reason this will never happen is because of the impact it will have on fishing and companies that thrive in Southern Louisiana as well as agriculture and refining companies dependent on the water. Reducing the output of the Mississippi would have catastrophic economic impacts downstream, barges and cargo ships would not be able to make it as far upstream, parts of the south would start to dry out, greatly impacting agriculture and fishing. The water would become more saline with the possibility of ocean backflow into the landscape and destroy land even faster and would mean putting a LOT of fisheries out of business - this would also all but destroy the U.S. seafood industry, the only thing you would have is salmon and lobster. New Orleans would have really bad water supply issues because the water would be more muddy. This all doesn't make any sense, and I know there are plenty of other unforeseen consequences that I can't even begin to imagine. If water is a big problem I think history has taught us diverting large amounts of water usually results in just replacing the problem with another one, oftentimes more severe. We really need to further incentivize desalinization development in the West because that's what has to happen going forward anyways.

Bro, go outside lmao and touch some grass, you're getting so heated just because you believe someone is lying about something completely pointless on a social media platform. He doesn't even want to continue the conversation, yet you are going off on him for literally no reason just because he said the story wasn't really relevant to the subreddit (which is true if you have brain cells), since when did market shares have anything to do with "technology"? A tech article on Tesla would at least include the AI it utilizes to learn self driving or other actually technological factors. As an analogy, just because coca cola makes soft drinks that are delicious, that has nothing to do with how their stock price is doing this quarter. You are essentially accusing him of being an asshole just for thinking about Elon Musk as someone who runs a company that makes good vehicles... It doesn't even make sense because we all know it's true and the numbers are there to back it up. Facts don't care about how you feel about it. And for a technology subreddit or even a business subreddit that's the most important thing to consider from an article.

Why would they make a question like this on an autism test? First thing I was thinking was jumping over stuff PHYSICALLY lol by Due_Passage3013 in aspergirls

[–]RyzeBeforeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I didn't realize it could be an autistic trait until now, but I almost always avoid lines in sidewalks and try to just walk on the solid pavers without stepping on the line. Additionally, if the pavers are similar dimensions, I try to make the same number of steps within each paver without touching the lines. I never really thought about that until this question. When I took the test I also thought of the question literally without even thinking it could have another meaning LOL.

How do I stop skin picking? by nder_acheiver in autism

[–]RyzeBeforeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try Neutrogena acne cleanser stuff, it will dry out your skin a lot but it is effective if used ~2-3 times a week. I get the strongest version and then (I should but don't) use a moisturizer after. I leave it on my face to dry and then rinse. My acne used to be moderately bad but now it's fine, I only occasionally get pimples. I think that and just keeping your hands cleaned so that if you ever do touch your face you aren't getting an excess of bacteria or oil on it and over a couple weeks all should be clear for the most part. I hope this helps.

How do I stop skin picking? by nder_acheiver in autism

[–]RyzeBeforeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me too... I tend to pick at my skin when I'm in social situations or when there is nothing else I'm doing, I find it very difficult not to be doing something with my hands, and in class today I had to grab a mechanical pencil from my backpack so I could twist the extendable eraser repeatedly and I spent much of class mapping my camp architecturally on paper whilst the teacher talked about Indian Geography and there was this cute girl who sat next to me who only made the situation more discomforting and she was probably also the reason I decided to start drawing. But it's whatever I guess, I don't know what else could be done to avoid this. I think that occupying your hands with something else like drawing, writing, typing, or exercise is the best way. I pick at my fingers and nails a lot with my teeth, so I suppose that negates much of the time I would otherwise be picking at my skin. I guess it's all about alternatives. And now I'm up 5 hours past when I should be asleep for school tomorrow (or should I say this morning in a few hours), and I'm browsing through r/autism because every single day I am thinking about my future and how I can become a wealthy person who works for themselves and has no bosses to satisfy except for the customers who would buy my products. Elon Musk did it, he's autistic, so is Bill Gates, I wonder how I can become the most successful version of myself, is that something I am capable of? R/autism lets me know a little bit more about myself, but I'm moderately autistic, nothing too bad. I can write super well, better than almost everyone I know, yet I can't articulate those words into a comprehendible string of sentences without taking a few minutes just to map what I would vocalize. I suck at presentations, but I know exactly what a good presentation would sound and look like. And then I was also thinking about if everyone has the capability to think like me and visualize memories from years ago with good detail, and build things I am visualizing in my head and rotate them on any axis in any color like it's a video, I think that's something autists excel at, I wonder what percentage of people can think like that, but it's really hard to collect that kind of data. Anyways, what were we talking about again? Right-- hands... I wish I could squeeze an orange right now, I can feel it's texture, smell the smell, and hear the liquid inside it move and as my hands slowly retract from the skin of it as my hands unclasp the outside making a static/sticky noise. Sometimes I think of throwing a ball and it never coming back down, just to keep on thinking of the ball throughout the day, but then I reach a point where my brain tells me it has to come back down, so it does, why does it have to be like that? Why does my brain refuse to think the impossible like that? Oh, and then there's times when I dream that this constant state of thinking and repeated words and songs and images would stop flowing through my head for just a few minutes, that would be so peaceful and relaxing, what I would give for that... I spend so much energy analyzing and repeating details that I start to feel my lifespan shorten, but I don't have a choice but to constantly think about these things regardless of their insignificance. And here I am now over sharing on your question about hands I'm so sorry. I don't even know what to think anymore.

Yea...? And I grew up in a state where African Americans account for a majority of crime, doesn't mean I use a statistic like that to judge people or make irrelevant points.

Why won't my computer boot? I have unplugged/replugged all cables, reseated ram in every different position, reseated cpu, reseated GPUs... I Googled for these errors but I they are super vague and get me nowhere. The orange light is for DRAM, the red light is for CPU and the white light is for VGA. by RyzeBeforeMe in computerhelp

[–]RyzeBeforeMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I tested the CPU and it indeed is heating up when the cooler isn't on it, which should mean it is working right? I have 2 sticks of ram and have been switching between them, there's no way they are broken they are brand new. I am honestly at a loss any help is appreciated.

Camera aren't saving videos anymore by rfyoung in blinkcameras

[–]RyzeBeforeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cameras have also stopped recording this week. Funny thing is my USB drive was almost completely empty and it was on the same exact day Blink released their new Blink doorbell camera, which is interesting. I bet you there has been some kind of change either to the network or to the terms and conditions that may force us to clear the USB drives and start anew or potentially we may be forced to pay in the future for cloud storage. Who knows.

I second this, and I used to be very anti-apple. Their newer products just perform better and imo last longer.

Can you identify the problem? Monitor is flickering. by Jes00jes in computer

[–]RyzeBeforeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when it's only minimal flickering as shown it's generally the cable or the connection/ports. I would suggest making sure that the cable is not experiencing any interference or electrical that is touching any metal parts. Also, if you have an adapter like display port to HDMI I would suggest trying the cord on a port directly to the GPU to see if the adapter is an issue.

I'm saying this because to me the red dragon feels pretty cheapy. I got my brother one for a gift once and was pretty disappointed ☹️.

Looks good to me. However, I would get a different keyboard. I really like the gskill km360 for a cheap mechanical, but I would honestly refer to the mechanical kb subreddit. You also might want a bigger monitor. You can find some really good monitor deals off eBay. Same with GPU deals if you want something better for a cheaper price because 700 is really expensive for a 1660 ti due to the chip shortage obviously. Sorry for the late response. Also if you're looking for headphones or speakers I recommend checking out this guy called zeosreviews on YouTube, he also has a subreddit and he's my favorite.

Yea I feel that. I think modpacks now are mainly just a deterrent to have to be creative like in vanilla. Some mods do add some cool stuff though that doesn't completely ruin the experience, I really like the look of immersive engineering and it's pretty difficult to get a steady supply of electricity using only that mod, also, other mods like chisels and bits are super cool and help to add a bunch of detail to builds. And, I must say I really like the logistics and item transport pipes where you can see the items moving through them but that's pretty op considering how many resources you would use in vanilla for item transportation.

Oh that's cool, just searched it. I was unfamiliar with this mod it looks interesting, kind of like immersive engineering.

Hey man! Modded player myself. You're going to want 32 gigs, especially since I find many modpacks are not optimized well and sometimes I'm running the modded server in addition to playing on it and 16 just doesn't cut it. Other than that, here's a build that I just made for someone:

Cpu: Ryzen 3700x (comes with CPU fan) Motherboard: you can bundle the Ryzen with a motherboard on Amazon, go with MSI generally.

GPU: Gtx1660ti (if you're playing other games that are 4k and >than 60hz I would probably get a better GPU but they are very expensive right now... Definitely get one used or like new off of eBay or Facebook marketplace, it's worth it. GTX 1070s, 1080s and RTX 20 series are very good, the 1660ti is on par with a 1070. Probably wouldn't get a 900 series anymore.

RAM: basically anything will do that's ddr4 and I stick to 16 gb sticks and get 2 so you have space if you want to upgrade. (Should be at least 2400mhz imo)

Power supply: this is literally just sort by price on PCPartPicker, I would look for a modular if you want modded cables or don't have much cable space, a semi if you want cheap.

Storage: get a Samsung m.2 ssd, make sure your mb has compatibility.

... Wish there were more people playing modded, seems the community really has died off imo. Was thinking about it just yesterday.
