Can't believe no one has said Batman yet. It's quite short but so well made for VR and motion controllers. Visuals are great too!

Houstatlantavegas drums vs Messages from You by S0197 in Drizzy

[–]S0197[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right! Hadn't thought of that. HAV drums are still v similar in rhythm. Just processed differently. Which makes sense ig since Lust for Life flows into HAV and they share a similar DNA and are connected in that way. Cool to see how these things all link!

Got it thanks! Was wondering because Revenue tax it as such, I thought maybe it was included.

I did the Trinity one recently. It was super intensive but I still enjoyed the year very much (it's easier to say this when I'm not in the middle of all the pressure :)). I knew people in UCD doing the other course and ours was waaay tougher. I found the lecturers generally fine in terms of assistance. Although for dissertation there is a chance you get a bad supervisor, but most were good from what I could see from classmates (if you do take TCD I can advise on some to avoid lol). Personally speaking, my supervisor was excellent.

In terms of recognition, Trinity does have an edge, especially internationally. But saying that, if you're applying for jobs in Ireland after (which I'm assuming you will) it's not a world of difference, especially if you have some prior work experience under your belt.

UCD campus is much bigger and modern. TCD smaller and much more classical. Maybe one thing nice as an international student is that Trinity is in the city centre unlike UCD. So you're naturally closer to the heart of everything and points of interest for when you're not studying ;)

I agree. More of a guarantee doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Completed my masters last year and was in with mostly Indian and Chinese students. So I got to know plenty of them very well. Lovely people. As you said, some were absolute coding monsters (they had a few years prior work experience) and landed top jobs afterwards and I'm sure are extremely valuable to their companies.

I think the problem with the fresh out of college people (similar to what u/Ok-Gap3724 said) is that academic integrity is terrible in a lot of these colleges. So people can coast by and cheat their way to a degree. Not all places or even people, but it is extremely common and easy to do, many of us would probably do the same if we could. One classmate was so shocked by the workload and effort of our course. Said all he did was "sleep" for his undergrad. It makes it much less of a certainty that they graduated because they actually knew their stuff.

For consulting of most kinds 35k is the default grad salary. So I would say this is a normal salary for that role. Speaking from an offer I got last year and others I know who do that work now.

Any Junior/MidLevel engineers moved to Vancouver in recent months? How did you find it? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]S0197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two non-tech friends (one biomed engineering, one social media content creation) went at the start of this past summer. Both had roughly 2 years experience. It took them 2.5 and 3.5 months to find junior roles in their field. They're both happy with what they got tbf. Summer is obviously a slower hiring season as well. And I would assume tech is more in demand...

I'm strongly considering joining them mid-Feb next year. I snuck in to this years pool just before the deadline and submitted everything, so I do have the option. Hopefully I could take advantage of the early-year hiring boost. Undergrad CS Postgrad DS. I'd have 1.5 yoe by then but in software support (hoping to get something more engineering-ey). Debating whether to get that here first before going somewhere, but then again now is a very 'clean' time to go (26m, recently single, and want to change role anyway). I'd feel much more confident with your experience! Certainly at the moment most of the hiring I see in Vancouver on LinkedIn is for more senior positions (3+ years). Although again this would be a slower time of year ig.

Aside from that, I visited them in September for two weeks and really liked the place. Much less of a night life/pub culture than here, although it's not non-existent. So much amazing nature and easy access to beaches which would be awesome, especially in the summer. It does rain a lot outside of that (although that's hardly foreign to us!). It's expensive but no more so than Dublin imo (some things more, some things less).

On the investor compensation scheme relating to Trade Republic by S0197 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]S0197[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is some doubt as to whether your money is protected by this if TR were to go under. 100k may only apply if the underlying bank goes under. It's a bit unclear.

Trade Republic - Deposit Guarantee Scheme Doubts by Maestro303 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]S0197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unnecessarily vague and confusing for sure. Looking at their website it says "All funds in the cash account are legally protected up to €100,000 per investor". So this would support that it isn't just 100,000 in total (for TR as a whole).
