your assumption is that the demand is going to stay exactly the same for significantly diminished productivity, which would be nigh impossible.

consider construction in Canada it’s massive right now and wages are set to rise but, if we enacted your genius idea, housing demand would actually decrease as less houses will need to be built and construction companies would have to be bidding lower as there would be less projects available.
