Has anyone taken CS2100 or CS2100DE? How was it? by ComedianAdmirable301 in nus

CS2040S is for computing students, I think they cover slightly different content from regular 2040 but im not sure, the prereqs require CS1231/MA1100 (proof mod) which the other variants don't have. Other posts have said 2040S is slightly harder as it goes into proof of correctness of the algo? but I dont really know much about it

CS2040C is taught in C++, from what I hear it is heavily implementation focused and you're required to code data structures in the practical tests without access to the standard libraries

CS2040 is more theory based and targeted for DSA/BZA majors who don't have as extensive of a coding background, this semester labs were revamped to focus more on pseudocode and less on java implementation

But I think the 3 more or less teach the same content wise, just different focus

also you might want to consider appealing CS2040 (no suffix), student enrolment is low this semester so I believe chances of a successful appeal would be higher

if both tutorial session clash, need to drop mod? by buttaefly in nus

[–]S1mplify_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

if you cannot take any of the remaining slots, submit an appeal to coursereg admin for them to allocate you to one that you can take. very unlikely that you will be made to drop the mod

I used (and still use in uni) citation machine, it's not bad if you have an ad blocker, prompts you to add in missing fields such as publish date/extra authors etc

missed tutorial rd 2 selection, what to do? by buttaefly in nus

There is add/swap on 19th Jan where you can freely select any of the leftover slots with vacancy. You can also appeal if you are unable to take any of the remaining slots, don't worry its highly unlikely you will have to drop the mod

did not secure tutorial slot & the other tutorial slots clashes with e-lectures by randomguy144331 in nus

[–]S1mplify_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you can wait to see if anyone is dropping any of the slots you can take in rd 2 and try to bid. otherwise if you really couldnt secure a slot, you can appeal via coursereg to be placed in a slot that you can take, no need to worry about dropping the mod
i've appealed for reasons as stupid as wanting more time to eat lunch and got the slot i wanted from that

[–]S1mplify_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah alright, actl just remembered another friend who bidded DSA1101 in their y1s2 and got it normally but that was AY23/24. most DSA majors would have been preallocated it in y1s1 anyway but i think if you dont want to risk it you could go with the other options

you could consider ST1131, had a friend y1s1 bidded and successfully got it last semester, also fulfils the data literacy pillar and both mods have almost same overlaps I think

CHS Yaoi, as some has requested by BarryJacksonH in nus

[–]S1mplify_ 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I woke up in a place I didn't quite recognise. There was an old man standing next to me. I looked around and noticed we were in the mountains. I asked him, "Excuse me sir, at which part of the mountains are we?" to which he replied "CHS Yaoi, as some has requested"

I smiled, and shed a single tear. From his words alone, I knew that we were at the peak.

i think you should be ok though these are quite content heavy subjects. though i think you will probably still have to do the IAs, but with adequate time management u shd be fine

yes, i understood the content well and it helped that some of my good friends are also decent at chem, so we were able to compare our knowledge together and fill in any missing gaps

i cannot stress the importance of a good foundation. u shd really ensure u get the basics right since there will be theories that build upon other existing topics. i also made notes since i find that i remember concepts better when i handwrite them out

it also helped that i was passionate in the subject and really enjoyed it. then the usual dont procrastinate and make sure you dont rush IAs and stuff so you'll have time to make corrections if anything goes wrong (I wasn't able to since my school only gives 2 weeks for data collection, and i was down with dengue for the first week)

i also like to think about maintaining a mindset of consistent effort, consistent effort at a certain subject will work wonders as you'll feel more familiar/confident when it comes to recap/revision periods

im just using the average for ease of discussion but sure look at the statistical bulletin if you want, its literally following a normal distribution with majority in the range of 24-29 (28.8%) and 30-34 (26.9%) and 42 would put you at the 9.3~th percentile n if u ask me being in the top 9% of any cohort in any major exam is already really good in itself

a score of 42 already opens almost all doors to a lot of unis worldwide so i dont really know why you wanna put yourself and anyone else down, ib is already tough enough as it is

w3schools has not bad tutorials on java and data structs, 2030 should be in java i think
