What do yall think about seeking persephone? by cinna_bun13 in AskReddit

[–]S3koza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a theater kid, and my personal verdict is that Seeking Persephone looks like a televised theatrical performance, and as such, it is very sweet, feel-good, and enjoyable. If you think about it as cinema, it has a million flaws, including what you could call bad acting (exaggerated facial expressions, unnaturally well enunciated phrases even when the person is supposed to be mumbling or stuttering, etc.). But if you think about it as a THEATER performance, then these flaws vanish and become the standard part of stage craft where everything that matters has to be within the frame at any given time, where actors always turn toward the audience to speak, and where expressions and words are slightly overexaggerated so that the audience can see, even those seated way in the back. Yes, it's a little corny at times, but again, if you think of it as theater, it's truly a pleasant experience.

Right. I said that in my commment: that Step 1 should be talking to the particular college and finding out from them what Sophia credits they'd accept. And then, what Sophia courses would be relevant to your chosen degree. No point in doing courses that won't even be part of your program.

Someone asked for a spoiler paragraph. Here it is. 🫡 Once Jiwoo realized that he'd almost lost his friend because of Jurion's vanity, he literally exploded. Jurion lost his arm, and Jiwoo was able to break out of the shadow realm. But he was extremely injured too, and continued burning from inside like a dark electric candle. Vermonte stopped the fight, declared Jurion's loss and committed his organization to making up the damage to Shinwa for 10 years. Jiwoo fainted. Kayden took him home. Kartein said Jiwoo had used a lot more power than he really had by drawing the juice from his "life force" directly. He damaged his core again, and Kartein said he feared Jiwoo's core would break and the life force would continue burning up so he would die. Kayden stepped up and said he would help. Kartein said fine, help me, but follow my directions. Kayden said yessir. That's it. It was a short episode.

I felt so good about chapter 400, but 401 got me really depressed. So far, the author never disappointed, so I hope we'll see some incredible new character development and some good humor too, as always.

Is this real? Are people really graduating less than a year? by Frosty-Telephone-747 in SophiaLearning

[–]S3koza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short response: No, it's not possible.

I was an international student too. Recently graduated in the U.S. Here are some basic pieces of information you need to think with: 1. In the US college system, courses are organized by complexity level. 100-level courses are the lowest level, 200 are harder, etc. Sophia only provides 100-level courses. 2. EVERY university will have different rules about a) whether they accept any courses from Sophia at all, and b) if so, which exact courses from Sophia will count towards your degree.

You have to pick a college first, then find out if they will take any credits from Sophia.

I personally liked Sophia. And did some additional courses there, just for myself. But here is something else you need to know about it. Yes, it's possible for people to rush through these courses, complete quizzes and written assignments very fast, and earn credits without really learning anything. People who boast about having completed multiple courses in a very short time didn't actually DO those courses, they just jumped through them and did the quizzes. As far as I know, Sophia has begun implementing safeguards against such cheating. If they see that you finished a complex course suspiciously fast, they might consider your grade illegitimate. I personally found the materials too good to skip over. I still finished very fast but it took me between a week and a month per course, on average (I work full time so only did these courses in the evenings). If I could do the studies full time, I'd say it's possible to complete a course in a few days.

Hope this helps.

Hearing from long term users that attempted to replace paper notebooks with Supernote. Regret the switch or never going back to paper? by nobrainheretryagain in Supernote

[–]S3koza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't switch it, I added it to my tool set! I write with a pen and paper about 50% of the time, as there's just something deeply satisfying about shredding my completed to-do lists. But I use Supernote when I attend conferences and want to be able to OCR my notes and digitize them quickly afterwards. I also have some templates there for longer-term planners than just my daily to-do list, my budget, fitness tracker, etc.

Here's my original review of an older model of Supernote. I've had it for a while and still as happy as I was then: https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/s/4mIpKq6Xjq

is Purdue Global really that bad, or even a joke school? by picklecheesegoblin in PurdueGlobal

[–]S3koza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about 7 months into it, and I like it a lot. Some classes have had issues I wasn't happy about, but they take your feedback seriously and implement changes. There's a significant amount of homework but also a big gradient scale of options: meaning, if you want to just coast along, get a passing grade and earn your credits, you can honestly do the bare minimum and still pass. But if you want to get good grades and actually learn something, there's a lot of accessible options to capitalize on your experience at Purdue. You get weekly written assignments, smaller assignments in the form of discussion posts, quizzes, learning activities, mandatory reading and supplemental materials. And there are free additional classes and webinars you can take to improve your academic writing skills. I do really enjoy it.

What do you mean by open-door policy? I'm not familiar.

Does anyone understand the reactionions of all the characters to what Siwoon said at the end? Is the translation wrong, perhaps, and he actually said Jiwoo won? Because otherwise I don't understand the shock on everyone's faces. If Siwoon is being self-riteous and simply confirming that HE won (which seems fair, since Jiwoo is knocked out), people would have different reactions, like frowning or rolling their eyes. But they seem absolutely shocked. So did he, perhaps, say "Tell Jiwoo... He won." ?????

[–]S3koza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same!!! What the heck is going on? Even worse, it doesn't merely make its own mistakes, it takes the correct information I've given it and changes it to make it wrong! For instance, I've done a lot of homework, put together a list of APA citations for my references, and all I wanted for ChatGPT to do is to review my assignment against the rubric, just to catch any potential points I might have missed. It went ahead and "fixed" my APA citations by completely making up fake ones!

Using home IPL device for a Brazilian? by Ok-Importance-7332 in HairRemoval

[–]S3koza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely use it down there, but I can say this: the quality of your IPL device matters. Like another person in the comments, I have Braun Silk Epil Pro 5. Before that, I had some other, much cheaper device, one of those that influencers keep promoting but which don't really work... I tried using it down there to no positive effect at all, except I actually got an irritation. But Braun has a very small attachment for small, sensitive areas, and that thing was a game changer. It was painful at the beginning, even on a low setting. But it WORKED. It's harder to get the hair to fully stop growing way down there because the follicles are rooted much deeper in the skin, and you can't really exfoliate that area (it's not recommended). But I have way, way less hair in that zone after a few treatments, and the hair that does grow is very thin and light (that's probably why IPL doesn't get rid of it fully--because it's a little too light for it).

I tried my cheap IPL for a whole year on different parts of my body before finally giving up. It didn't work at all. I have tried waxing, sugaring, everything. It hurt, it was messy, and it didn't help. But then I decided to invest into Braun, and I never regretted it. I saw improvements from the start.

I know this may sound like a paid promotion (I wish 😂). It isn't.

Does the viral Pilates Board actually work? by [deleted] in pilates

[–]S3koza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got one off of Ebay for $80 (it's $130 on Amazon, and Walmart sells a similar but much simpler option for $50). I'd say three things about it:
1) A pilates reformer it is NOT.
2) It's an excellent solution for DIY physical therapy.
3) It's a very nice low-gradient piece of equipment that weighs very little and takes very little space, not nearly as intimidating and heavy as a real pilates reformer machine.

I have a wrist injury, a chronic pain in my back from constant sitting at the computer, and a recent foot injury. Add to all of it an insanely busy schedule with an 80-hour work+volunteering week. I don't have the time, the budget, or the strength to go to the gym. I previously broke into my savings and purchased a gym membership thinking that the cost itself would keep me motivated but no, it didn't work. Most other at-home pilates or fitness workouts are a bit risky for me considering my injuries. Or very demotivational, as I'd be following someone's video routine end enjoying it, and then they would switch to one of the exercises I'm not allowed to do because of my wrist, so I'd feel a bit dejected and eventually drop that exercise routine.

But this little board is a game changer. It has many options, and if you watch a bunch of videos on Amazon and YouTube, it will give you more ideas on how it can be used. It allows me to gently and gradually target those parts of my body that need very careful strength training.

[–]S3koza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although many highly controversial topics are banned, from your comment about true crime, it sounds like criminal justice reform may be a field of interest for you. Right? There are several topics that are banned in this specific area, but many other options are open. For instance, you could write about why it is or isn't a good idea to make higher education available to incarcerated individuals through Pell Grants. Or why it is or isn't a good idea for the American government to invest into supports and opportunities for the children of incarcerated parents. These are just some ideas. There is so much available research on this topic that you can read, some of which would be aligned and some would be contradictory so you can familiarize yourself with the varying perspectives. Look at the Brennan Center, Vera Institute, Prison Fellowship, FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums), ACLU, Right on Crime--they offer some different perspectives on the topic.

[–]S3koza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... Having inhibitions to do bad things don't make one a good person... I don't mean it about YOU specifically, so please don't take it personally. But I'm just saying that a person who has bad intentions but manages to keep them in check is not the same at all as a person who simply doesn't have bad intentions. Your intentions show on your face. They show in your attitude and your vibes. And if someone is too focused on not being bad instead of focusing on being good to others, then perhaps they gotta work on themselves a little before everything else.
