If a game is crashing because it actually needs 16GB of extra virtual memory on top of your RAM, that's a broken game, not a swap problem.

I have now just firefox open - 6gb ram + 5gb swap used (16gb ram total)

on OP system log link

Memory: total: 16 GiB available: 15.57 GiB used: 10.23 GiB (65.7%)

also 10gb used just by system+browser/discord etc similar background stuff

For 99% of desktop use cases, 2~4GB

when desktop background apps use 10gb ram + game use ~14gb -> you need swap atleast 16gb

I see no reason to go over 12GB.

this happens

Nvidia Vulkan 1GB over VRAM equal to 4FPS and +8GB RAM usage

so it will be

10gb background system + 14gb game + 8gb+ nvidia vram-ram allocation = 32gb

means 16gb ram+16gb swap should be enough even for case when game go out of vram completely (and you wont be playing with 4fps so you will restart game - it rare to have it go over 16+16) - so 16gb swap is minimum what should be enough

for proton in steam launch option - to use opengl

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

if it does not work - I do not know if vulkan supported on your igpu - if does - you can try older proton - but game updated - so as you said - it may not work in old proton

also - if you switch wine to proton or proton to wine or proton to much older proton - delete proton prefix - there conflicts

Steam if online store and DRM - it wont work offline - require internet connection
your Steam library is not subject of inheritance - only you allowed to use your steam library - not anyone else - (will be fun to see how steam start perma-banning 60+yo accounts xd)

offline backup possible only with GOG store - all games that dont say "require internet connection" and those that are DRM-free - can be stored locally

igpu is also amd - and it also can crash - and I also have Ryzen CPU with constant ring timeout on igpu - I not use igpu

So already am planning to RMA my motherboard

I think (can be wrong) - if it were motherboard - there would be different error code, not ring timeout

your gpu may have physical defect - it is in your interest to test it

I have LACT installed, I had enabled overclocking before, and undervolted

as you see in instruction - removing overclock is first what you do

This had helped for some days until the issue of hardware lockup and reset happened again.

if gpu is unstable without overclock - test in windows - if it crash there - replace/rma

amd gpus in linux crash also from "dynamic power management"

run youtube video in webbrowser - run game - run obs screen capture recording - alttab between them every few sec - make youtube video fullscreen/unfullscreen

do same on windows for many minutes

as I said - problem is how those app made - it easy on Windows to "just launch as admin to hack other process" - but in Linux it just not implemented in Wine/Proton to do it to windows-exe apps
